Here is a link to the TEA/AECOM annual theme park report just released today:

http://www.themeit.com/etea/2009report.pdf and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_amusement_park_attendance_figures

Highlights include:

o DL attendance up 8% while MK was up 1%. Probably a result of DLR's greater base of locals and AP holders. DL remains in #2 spot.

o DCA attendance up 9.5% and it regained the #6 spot in North America from Sea World Florida and Univeral Studios Orlando.

o All Disney parks at DLR and WDW gained while almost every other park in the top 20 fell.

o DL was still behind MK in 2009 - by 8%

Here are the top 10 in North America in millions of visitors:

Code:
[FONT=Courier New]1. MK     17.2 (+1%)[/FONT]

Thanks HydroGuy! I just have to ask, if you don't mind sharing -- what do you do for a living? You seems to like stats & data so I am dying to know. :)

First, I know this report comes out every year in April and so I subscribed to it here: http://judithrubin.blogspot.com/2009/04/teaera-attraction-attendance-report.html

I got an e-mail today and made this post! :)

As for the suave and mysterious HydroGuy ;) check out post #1 in this thread I started recently on the Community Board:

What is the Origin of Your DIS Screen Name?

And finally, I post data and stats because I find it unhelpful when people ask "What is the weather like at DLR in the summer" and someone posts a reply "We were there 3 years ago and it was really hot!". "Hot" to someone who lives in Alaska is different from hot to someone who lives Arizona! And it may have been hot 3 years ago on July 10 when the poster visited, but what is it usually like in July?

Anecdotal and opinionated replies are often what people want when they post here. But sometimes hard data is more useful. I try to give both. Even so, when I posted my weather data I got more arguments than I usually do when posting pure opinion!

:wizard:

Hydroguy, you might want to fix the OP. #8 should be USO, not USH. :thumbsup2

Anyway, great news! With the way things are going at DLR, I wouldn't be surprised if DL surpasses MK next year and DCA's numbers should be rising significantly within the next couple years to join the rest of the Disney parks.

Thanks HydroGuy for that link -- cool to learn more about the people I "see" often. I also added my info at the end. :)

Looking at the waterpark numbers, I would of never suggested this before, Disney should be building one in Anaheim.

I don't know why the waterparks sustained while themes park didn't? I'd guess global warming.

Isn't there some plan for a waterpark in Anaheim? Not by Disney..where oh where did I see this.....

the city of Garden Grove has approved the building of a waterpark hotel........

I am so glad that free birthday thing is over, attendance was so much higher because of that!
