2009 Room only--price WAY higher????

I just called to make a room only reservation for Jan 3-9, 2009 at Ft.Wilderness cabins, and was told that the one night charge would be $382.50. Value season in 2008, started on Jan 1, and the rack rate was $255.00. I understand that the price would probably increase from 2008 to 2009 but that is A LOT more!!!! Has anyone else who has booked for 2009 had this same "sticker shock"? I didn't complete the reservation, because if it's going to be THAT much more, I guess we won't be going. We'll probably go back to Disneyland (and stay at the Disneyland Hotel for less $$$).

Anyone else???

Could it be that they charge the highest rate that exists and then re-price when the 2009 prices come out?

I'm pretty sure that when you book room-only before the new rates (in this case 2009) come out - they charge you at the HIGHEST room rate for that category/room - meaning Peak season (or whatever it's called) rates! Simply b/c the dates for the "seasons" haven't been set yet. So while the rate may be more than the $255 for this year, chances are it won't be NEAR that much!! HTH!

Thank you so much!!! That makes sense now because I think I saw that the cabins were $350 or so during peak or holiday season this year. I was just really thrown for a loop when she said $382.50, my head started to spin!!! I guess I will call back and then wait to see what the rates are when they are announced later this year.

If you know where you want to stay, book now. The new rates will come out in August, and you'll know then how much you're paying. But at least you'll have your cabin.

You are in the same situation we are in. We plan on going Jan 09, 15-22. In order to hold a room for the time you want, you have book and then pay a deposit which is 1 night. The rates for 09 are not out yet, so they are charging the highest price. We want to stay at the ASM suites, which I heard go quickly, so I booked for the week we want. 1 night came to over $300. I also almost fell over. I talked to a cm yesterday and she said the rates and packages will be out around end July, early August. Why so long I cant figure out. Its my understanding once the rates and packages come out, you call and they will adjust the price.

Good luck planning, I know the wait to find out the true final price is killing me.

Yes they charge the peak rate until 2009 rates come out. We booked for Contemporary at $350 per night which is the peak rate but it will go down when rates come out. With tax it was around $400 but hey, at least we got our reservation in nice & early and thats $400 less that we have to pay next year. Plus I guess it will seem like a bargain once the rates get adjusted.
