I have tried several times to get a price for a room only reservation for my daughter (senior trip) for March 2009 online. The Disney website says that they are not accepting reservations after Dec 31, 2008 at this time. I called yesterday and was told that the rates for 2009 have not been released yet. She quoted me a price for six nights at Pop Century for $1079, but said the price was based on this years rates and they would change when the new rates came out.
We are trying to get a price so each of the girls going with her will know the cost well in advance and can plan accordingly. Is this common practice with Disney? We have been six time previously and have never had this happen before.

Has anyone else had this experience? $179/night for POP in March seems a bit high to me????

We did that last year for Jan and we just waited until the end of July/first of August-I think I did do the room first. You just call back when the definite dates are out and cancel your first ressie and make a new one. Ours was fine-just a bit longer on the phone-but you pretty much get to stay at your first choice instead of what's not already booked up.This first quote will give you a rough idea of what each of you will be spending for the room.

IIRC, the rates for 2009 should be out some time in August. It has been this was for a number of years. I think it will be interesting to see what kind of rate increase they do for next year. Given the economy and the cost of getting to WDW at this time, I wonder if we are going to see the same sort of increases we have seen in the past. I think last year the increase was around 8-10%. But I could be wrong.

Are there any numbers for this year showing if revenue or attendance is down at the parks? That could be an indication of what may happen.

I just got back have to say it wasn't terribly crowded at all, I did notice though a much larger proportion of Europeans than I have in years past, which is probably due to the weakened $$$.

we've gone in the spring twice and each time we had to wait for the rates to be released in early August, so yes, I'd say it's their common practice.

I tried to book a cash ressie today for one of the DVC resorts and the CM would not let me book it because she didn't have the rates :confused3. So, I have no ressie :scared1:. I guess I will just keep calling back until they let me book it.:)

I saw on mousesavers that discount codes typically come out a couple months in advance of the dates. We would like to go Nov/Dec of 2009. If I book a room when '09 dates come out, can I rebook those with the discount code when they come out in Sept/Oct? I was noticing that availablilty for the same week this year has some very limited choices and the discount rates have not yet been released.

TIA!!

I was told that if you book a room-only reservation before the rates are released, they will quote you the peak price regardless of when you plan to visit.

I too am waiting patiently for the rates to book our January trip.

Thanks everyone for you input. I din't realize that Disney waited until Aug to release the following years rates. I suppose I will just be patient and wait.

I know. Doesn't it seem crazy to not release rates this far in advance? As I've said before, some people need to plan-realistically-well in advance to afford a Disney vacation. I as well have already booked a room just to have some dates nailed down. Awaiting anxiously for those rates!!!
