2009 Disney Half Marathon - I want to participate!!!

Please do join us and Welcome to the WISH Team!

Most of our training chatter and support can be found on the weekly walker/runner threads. Stop by don't be shy. The fun is in posting and enjoying everyone along the way. You will find all ability levels and fantastic information. You will be most welcome.

This week's thread is here (click here). The threads change usually for Sundays.

I'm using the Couch to 5k to start off, so hopefully it works. Thank you for all the advice and tips :goodvibes I'll definitely look up race etiquette too :thumbsup2

There is a thread just for 2008 couch to 5K, please feel free to mark your progress and any questions on that TD, everyone is working towards the 5k goal!!

Best of luck!

Welcome to both of you! I am doing the 2009 Half as well and have never been a runner! People here have been so welcoming and encouraging! I am reading Marathoning for Mortals right now and going for running shoes next week. I have been using our elliptical glider all month and can't wait for warmer weather (I admit, I'm a wimp in the cold! I'm in MA and it has been COOOLD!) to get outside.

We CAN do this!

You all have plenty of time for your races. One thing to remember is to listen to your body. If you are hurting skip a workout on the schedule. The schedules are a guide. If you don't listen to your body, you won't make the start.

Better to be undertrained and healthy than overtrained and injured. That's how I survived Goofy #3. Plan to be healthier for Goofy#4 :thumbsup2

Good training!

Well said! My knee started hurting towards the end of my first full marathon training. I ignored it and ended up unable to walk 9 miles from my car (on a long run). I had to stop training then and drop down to the half. I was pretty bummed. Had I LISTENED to my body, I would have stopped before I hurt myself, rested and more than likely could have finished the full. As someone new to distance, I was dumb! Now I know better.

LOVED the marathoning for mortals plan. The run/walk is great! I am registered from Goofy! Woo Hoo!

Anywho, you have plenty of time to train. Just relax, have fun and LISTEN to your body!

Go For It and Good Luck!

Me too! I want to start with the Minnie Marathon 5k as well. I've started the Couch Potato to 5K plan as well :) I need to get back in shape and there is nothing like the 'world' for inspiration!

My wife and I just finished our first half marathon as well. One thing we made the mistake of was actually starting to train to early. Unless you just to run Id just get myself into shape by running 3miles, lifting weights, aerobics, yoga, cycling, etc. alot of cross training. Then around 3-4 months before the race really hit the running. We started running in April and was really burned out by the time the race got here. We like to be in shape but are not natural born runners. But we loved the Disney half and will be doing it again in 09.

Best of Luck:wizard:

swim-mom - I'll definitely head on over to that thread :thumbsup2 Thank you!

RCBA - I find that thinking about running around Disney is the best inspiration I have found so far :mickeyjum

Tdisney - I plan on doing at least 2 races (Minnie and ToT) before the half next year. I don't want my first race to be the half, I need to build up to that. Thank you and best of luck to you too :goodvibes
