But for DVC the standard is $36.99 and deluxe is $71.99.:confused3

Why is this??

So am I correct that they just added back the dollar that they decreased the cost when they took away the appetizer and tip? But they didn't add back the appetizer and tip, just the cost.

Yep! you got it correct. Mickey got the buck back and we got nothin. Not sure how great the meal plan turns out for most. :confused3

If the restaurant board is any indication, many WDW guests still love the dining plan. If it's not a moneysaving deal, they like the idea of prepayment.

Exactly! The prepayment is the big plus now - knowing what you will spend for food. We did the dining plan our last two trips, but decided not to this past trip in August. I kept every receipt and added up everything we spent for food. I came up with a total amount spent that was only $145 more than what we would have spent on the regular dining plan (not the deluxe) - and our total spent included tips! But, we had the equivalent of 10 table service meals, 16 counter service meals, and only a few snacks (we're not big snackers in between meals). I think we're finished with the dining plan from now on.

Annette-Did you pay regular prices for your meals, or did you have DDE card with the 20% discount? If you had purchased the dining plan, how many night would have purchased and for how many people? I am trying to understand your numbers vs. the numbers I have used from my own trips.

I got the dining plan in sep 2007. We stayed at the FW cabins. We burned the TS credits at Cinderellas breakfast and Mickey's backyard BBQ. The teens used them elsewhere. We didn't use all the credits as the little one and mom got sick. Our last trip (Aug 08) we ate in the room and had two dinners out. The kids had their turkey legs and such, but we we saved money and didn't have to plan our vacation around reserved meals.

No, we didn't have the DDE card. We stayed for a total of 8 nights, 2 adults and one child. That would have come to $687.76 for the dining plan. We actually ate 8 table service meals but two of those would have been 2 TS credits.

We actually ate at WCC, Biergarten, Artist Point, CRT, Cape May Cafe, Garden Grill and Beaches and Cream 2 times. Yes, B&C is definitely much cheaper than the others, but we were staying in the BC and it was convenient, we didn't need an ADR and we were seated within a reasonable amount of time. I know that wouldn't always be the case, but I could definitely live with a difference of another $100 or so, given the flexibility and the meals we had.

We had 16 counter service breakfasts and lunches. From our totals on TS meals, I subtracted any alcoholic drinks and appetizers, since those would have been paid for oop. I added the amounts we paid in tips to the $687.76. I even added in the few snacks that we had to our total. And the difference was only $145.00.

Another thing that worked to our advantage was a few times at the counter service restaurants, there was nothing on the kids menu that DD would eat. An example would be Columbia Harbor House, which has chicken tenders on the adult menu but not on the kids. We ate lunch here twice and both times DD had the adult chicken tenders. On the DDP, that would have come out of our pocket since I wouldn't make her have something she would not enjoy.
