***2009-2010*** cheer parent thread!!

our gym is small, so we never go to cheersport. I do belong to another discussion group (cheerleading) and they make it sound like fun, crazy but fun.

We're a small gym, too. We only have 44 cheerleaders. It is our first year. Well, the team sort of existed last year but the owners split and our coach opened an all cheer facility vs. practicing in a gymnastics facility. We have three teams. Youth L1, Junior L2 and Senior L3. The juniors are mostly crossovers from Youth and Seniors. We only have a few that missed the age cutoff so we did crossovers to have enough for another team.

GOOD LUCK!

That is such a fun competition. I am kind of bummed my daughter's and niece's teams are not going this year. It is especially a great competition for the special needs teams as Cheersport hosts a dinner Saturday night upstairs in the ballroom for all the special needs teams and their families. It was so much fun last year meeting the athletes from all over the country.

Our C5 team will be there though.

I remember y'all being there last year and I would check on y'all when the score results came up. Good luck to your C5 team.

Today my daughter performed with her special needs team and I wanted to share a pic and the video of her. The video is really bad quality and very shaky. It was taken with a point and shoot camera. She did amazing and just loves cheering soo much!

so cute and her helper really seems to love her!

Oh my goodness, her helper adores her! We are blessed with such a wonderful helper! Thank you for letting me brag about my daughter. She just did such an awesome job, not that I am biased or anything!:cheer2:

I love watching the special needs kids. Your DD is so cute.

We're back from CheerSport. Our Youth Level 1 got 4th (I thought they should have gotten at least second- if not first from a biased mom!- and the team that got second should have beaten the team that won.) Our Juniors got 5th. We were really pleased with that. They only practice once a week instead of twice. So, two top five fininshes at CheerSport for a gym that has only been open less than a year is pretty amazing.

Congrats to your gym! I think that is great!

one of my daughters has broken her finger doing a bhs. since she flies on 3 teams the gym is freaking out! She should be better in 2-3 weeks, but cannot tumble at all right now. Who would of thought a little finger would cause so much drama.

OMGosh - my dd also broke her finger this season doing a round off back handspring! It's so odd because they do them a zillion times a day and then break something!!! It astounds me. DD was casted for 3 weeks - and kept right on flying anyway. Luckily, it was her right hand and not her left. She had to walk through her tumbling - but she was happy to still keep her spot flying. Good luck and quick healing to your dd.

Our team was looking so ready for Nationals this weekend. Then last night a girl got hurt. She's the one who's front and center in the toe touch section. It's always something...

So what do you do? Our team is small so it really hurts us .. but I have always wondered what bigger teams do ...

I think it puts us at risk. We've added a couple of girls since the last competition so that all the stunt groups have front spots as well as back. Most of the stunt groups could probably do without their front spot (there is really only one flyer who really needs it) so maybe they can work around the girl not being there.

There is always the hope that she'll be better in a couple of days. She was carried out of the gym in tears, but I don't know her well enough to know if she's dramatic or was seriously hurt. Time will tell.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Don't you hate it when that happens? One girl in my daughter's stunt group broke her pinky finger. She hit another girl when they were doing backhandsprings. Of course, it happened the day before a big competition. They had to have an emergency practice with the front spot as the new base. All that stress over a pinky finger! It worked out, though. They took first at that competition. :goodvibes

The coaches will figure it out. Good luck :wizard:

D is very afraid of getting hurt herself. Nationals is this weekend. High school cheer tumbling tryouts are next Wednesday. But in the midst of it all, the middle school track season has started and she is really working on her sprints to try to be one of the top three who competes. She's afraid that sprinting will mess her up for cheer.

I've always 'heard' you can mark your spots and you won't get marked down for it .. cause of course things happen and not every person, every time can compete .. that's why I was wondering what big teams do ..

Or if you do get marked down, how much? I guess I should ask a judge lol

My dd is filling in right now for a girl who got hurt. The team she is filling in on is part of her gym - but they are a satellite location about an hour from our home. So, I guess one benefit of a bigger gym is that they can pull kids from other teams over to double team in the case of an emergency, you know? Obviously, that is still not perfect - because I can tell you my dd won't know the whole routine for their upcoming comp - just not enough time to learn it all between now and then. But at least it's something, and the team can move forward. I know my dd is very thrilled to help out and she will give it her very best shot for them.

Well, the girl who got hurt Tuesday night was at the gym last night on crutches. They reworked everthing - I kept seeing my D in different places than she's been before. I guess it's good that they're young because I don't think my old brain could remember all those last minute changes.
