Landry Corp (Rain Forrest Cafe and Yak & Yeti) plans to build a T-Rex restaurant in DTD.

T-Rex is a unique concept that features dining and retail in an interactive prehistoric environment. The concept is built around water, fire and ice -- guests visiting T-Rex will be greeted with life size animatronic dinosaurs that live among cascading waterfalls, bubbling geysers, a fossil dig site and much more. Locations are planned domestically and internationally, the first of which is slated to open this spring in The Legends mall in Kansas City, Kansas; with another opening in Downtown Disney® (near Orlando) in early 2008.

Landry's has acquired the majority interest in Schussler Creative's new Asian themed eatery (which is expected to open by summer 2007) inside Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. This Asian-themed restaurant with retail is reminiscent of the western Himalayan foothills in India and Nepal, featuring a rural village called Anandapur in a jungle with a tiny town-like mass at its center. Asia will offer full service table dining, as well as quick service food. This Asian-Fusion concept will feature Asian decor, complete with Asian antiques, as well as a retail component that will offer Asian goods ranging from Sushi plates to chopsticks and fine teapots.

And a comment from the CEO of Landry "We feel that the T-Rex and Asian theme concepts are a perfect fit with Disney's unmatched entertainment offerings."

Thanks for the info!!! I live about 15 miles from the T-Rex in KC and it's pretty neat. The food is pretty much like Rainforest Cafe which we enjoy. I can't wait to try out the Yak and Yeti in July!!! :)

I wonder why they're putting a T-Rex so close to a Rainforest Cafe. It seems kind of odd to have two such similar restaurants so close together.

I thought the same thing. Then again, Yak & Yeti doesn't seem like a good fit for AK either. I'm looking forward to trying it, but the theme just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Maybe, I'm missing something. :confused3

OP,
Thanks for the update. :)

I keep calling everyday to see if ressies are open for Yak & Yeti. CM said within the next week or so. I'm so looking forward to trying Asian food in the Asian part at AK. Fits perfectly!

Thanks for the update...they should put the T-Rex in AK In Dinoland... Oh well I am trying for Yak and Yeti too did the CM happen to mention when they would open?

OP,
Thanks for the update. :)

It's in the Asia section of AK- near E:E and Kali River Rapids. The look of the restaurant fits right in with the Asia section- very "small Nepal village" looking.

Just off the phone, the CM told me no info on when Y&Y would be taking reservations nor whether it would be open for lunch and dinner. Also they are still not able to book for Tusker House either.

Going by the menus and design of both websites, I am starting to think they are owned by the same company.

It is my understanding that both were the brainchild of Schussler Creative who came up with the concepts. Trex was first opened in Kansas and Rainforest in Minnesota.

Both show up on the Landry restaurant website. I just wish that they would be a little more forthcoming with info in opening for the people traveling to the Orlando area.

We were at Disney in June. We went to RFC for dinner and I asked about the opening of the T-Rex Cafe. I was told it was running behind schedule and wouldn't be open until 2009. :sad1:

Yummmmmm... the menus looks mouthwatering:surfweb: can't wait to eat there summer of 08:cool1:

We have a T-Rex Cafe here in town and we love it. It is owned by the same company as rainforest cafe. Much like described on the prior posts -- it was hard to find info before it opened.

I think the food is better than Rainforest (which we also have here in town) but there are lots of events that make it more expensive. There is a play area which is like a huge sandbox where you can dig play bones (much like the area in the dinasour area at Animal Kingdom). It cost $3 per person to go in that area at T-Rex and adults have to go with kids. So $12 for our family of four. They also have computerized dino games, etc... in that area. They also have 2 fun stations for the kids. Mining - you get a bag of sand/dirt and the kids get to dump it in a sorter and run it through a "stream" to find the stones. They have 3 options...one bag with fossils, one with gems and one with stones. This costs 4-5 dollars. The other fun activity is a fossil find. You get this "brick" and you put it in a chamber where the child can then blast it with high pressure air. As you blast it as fossil appears and you end up with a set of 6-7 pieces that you can put together to build your own dino skeleton. That also costs about $5 and there are several different dinos available.
The highlight of the "stuff" to do is build-a-dino. Just like build-a-bear but it is dinos only, complete with clothes, accessories, etc. These dino's cost between $18 and $25 and the the clothes are about $10 a set.

The decor is really fun. The dining room is dividing into several different areas including an under the sea area with jellyfish, fish, etc... That is my fav. There are also sevaral different dino rooms. All are extensive decor as rainforst, just with a dino theme. If anyone wants pics I'll do my best to get some. We don't go all that often but this would be a good excuse :-)

Food prices are better than rainforest. The last time we went it was my husband my son and I and the 4 of us each had a meal and we shared an app, plus we had drinks for about $40. We once took another family and the total check was only about $60.

My kids choose T-Rex over Rainforest everytime since it opened here!
