2008 DDP discussion, questions, rants and vents

The gratuity is also included in the price at CRT.
Are you sure about that? I certainly hope so! That would be great! :thumbsup2

UPDATE: I checked the 2008 brochure and the gratuity IS included at CRT. I was confused because on the DIS menu page, the CRT holiday prices stated that the taxes and gratuity were NOT included. Apparently that's only during the holidays and peak times.

Has anyone found out if the tip can be charged to a Disney Gift Card? I'm getting the DDDP and I want to not take any cash.

Also, I'm assuming the tip would come from what you would have paid without the DDDP. Ex: if your bill would have been $100 OOP, the tip would be $20, not any tip based on the $70/day you paid.

We are going to DW in October with two granddaughters, princess: :cutie: ages 10 and 11. We had to purchase adult DDP for them, but they would never eat that much food at dinner. The buffets will be fine for them because they can pick and choose whatever. When we go out to eat at the California Grill, Mama Melrose, Prime Time and Floridian Grille (all our favorite dining places) would we be able to order one complete meal for the girls and split it between them. They are very tiny and don't eat very much. We could then use the extra meal tickets for other character meals. Also, we don't eat dessert, so would we be able to get an appetizer instead.:confused3

Yes, they should be able to share a meal (no sharing your credits with people not on the DDP/on your reservation, but sharing among your party is generally fine);
No, you cannot substitute an appetizer. You can order one (or more) and pay cash, but there are NO exceptions to this. Servers can get in trouble for this.

Thanks for the info. It will help a lot when we get there. We did the dining plan last year when the girls were 9 and 10 and had one child and one adult DDP for them. We noticed that our 10 yr. old wasted too much food at the dinners and now that we have to get two adult plans for them the waste of dinner foods would be sad. I am happy to know that we can split a dinner meal between them. Looking forward to our trip.

We are going as a group of 7, my question is with tips being automatic for our group size what happens if we receive bad service? I really don't like the idea of having to talk with a manager while on vacation, are there any other options. Don't get me wrong, if they earn it then I have no problem tipping, but I am really worried about the servers looking and saying the tips automatic and just doing a so so job. So how can I handle this

You do need to speak to the manager and ensure you get great service. This is your responsibility in the transaction, to yourself, to your group, and to the restaurant.

I decided today that I am canceling the DDP I had planned for our short February trip. I came to this decision because of the special that Chase is running right now on my Disney Visa. I get 5x points on all dining, groceries, gas and pharmacy purchases for January, February and March once I reach $450 in any one of the above categories. I added up our meals and since I was just doing the DDP for convenience not the savings I have chosen to cancel the DDP and pay OOP so I can get the extra points. If any of you have the Disney Visa you may think about this option.

I just got a Chase Disney card. How do you find out about deals like this? Is this deal only open to certain card holders?

I have the Disney Visa card since 2004 and have never seen the 5% offeredd...maybe 2% reqwards. Where did you get this information from? I just checked the Disney Visa website and it makes no mention whatsoever about 5% rewards for dining, groceries, gas and pharmacy purchases for January, February and March.

Please help us all out.
Thanks, Tim

Yes, I just checked the site too and found nothing. Are you sure you weren't talking about another card you have?

Actually the OP is correct - I got a notice in the mail approximately a month ago regarding 5% rewards for purchasing groceries, etc.

I dropped my DI$NEY card as the rewards are a joke

I called Chase and she said it is something that comes in your statement and different people will get it at different times. I asked if she could tell if I had gotten a notice and she said she could. I hadn't. She said I had gotten an offer in March of 2007 and Dec of 2006.

Btw you have to meet the requirements and you have to call to activate it. By requirements I mean for this offer you don't start the 5% on food and gas etc until $450 in purchases in those catagories.

Sorry I haven't been back to answer your questions, but I see that they were mostly answered by others! Thanks! I received a postcard in the mail the first week of January that told me about the offer. I got online and registered with the code that was on the post card. Yes, as stated above in my earlier post, I am aware of the $450 in initial charges but that is not a problem for me. All 4 of my family have the Disney Visa cards and we all 4 drive so right there we have lots of gasoline. We just got back from Disneyland on Tuesday where we paid for all of our meals with the Disney Visa instead of having them charged to the room. If you have them charged to the room it will show up as one large resort charge and you won't get the bonus points. I don't know about many of you, but I spend more than $450 per month in groceries. I am going to take advantage of this offer through March and then go back to my Amex to earn airline miles. I just can't pass of 5x points!

We use our Disney Visa for everthing paying it off at month end. We were able to pay 3/4 of our trip in ONE day to Disney with rewards. Works GREAT for us. :cool1: :dance3: :cheer2:
