Hi guys! I finished W2D3 yesterday. Yikes! I have to jog 3 minutes tomorrow :scared1:?

Hi guys! I finished W2D3 yesterday. Yikes! I have to jog 3 minutes tomorrow :scared1:?

I promise it won't be as bad as you expect. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't that much more difficult than the 90 sec. intervals were. I did make sure that I went fairly slow in the begining. It helped.

Wow! You were right. I was very nervous about jogging 3 minutes but I just started jogging, grooved to the music and concentrated on my surroundings instead of the clock ticking away. I couldn't believe when Robert Ullrey said I was done! On the final 3 minutes he tells you when you only have 1 minute left and I picked up the pace :cool1:.

I bought one of those spibelts last week and today was my first workout with it. I loved it. It held my iPhone and I didn't have any silly "technical" difficulties I did when I was holding the phone ot having it bounce around in my WDW fanny back.

You all are doing great! I kept a running journal when I did the C25K (still am keeping it) and it's fun to read back and see what I was thinking and how I was feeling each step of the way!

I am now running 3.5 - 4 miles 4 times a week and although I don't break any speed records I am totally addicted to running! I am thinking about signing up for the Princess 1/2 in March 2010...wow I can't believe I just typed that! I need a goal to push me beyond my running distances now and I think that would be the perfect motivator.

BUT I still need to run my first 5k! When I first started C25K it was with a 5k in mind at the end of April. When the 5k came I chickened out thinking I wasn't running far enough without any walking, at the time I was only running 2 miles. I am now kicking myself for not doing it! I am now looking for another 5k to do soon and I think I'll do the 5k during the DL Half over Labor Day if we will be in town.

Keep it up -you're doing great and believe me we all had our struggles but just keep putting one foot in front of the other and before you know it you'll be running 3.1 miles! :cheer2:

I believe this. A month ago, there was no way you could have convinced me that I would be running 10- let alone 20-minute intervals. Now, I'm up to 25-minutes, and I am not passing out at the end of the run! Thanks for the encouragement, and good luck on your 5k. I, too, am looking for one to run soon!

Oh and I've been off the boards lately because we're on vacation. I'm so proud that I still managed to squeeze in a run, and I've got another one tomorrow morning!

c25k is awesome!

Hey guys...I just wanted to give you guys an idea for your off days if you are wanting to get some exercising in on those days...my wife and I just bought the Wii Active game and it's an amazing workout! I ran 4 miles the other day and wasn't sore at all from running and then the next day I did the Wii Active for 30 minutes and when I woke up after that I was insanely sore.

Just wanted to let you guys know of an option for your off days...I know when I did C25k I didn't want to do anything on my off days, but just in case someone out there wants something more to do!

Keep on running!

I have my first 5K two weeks from today and I am so nervous because I am only running for 2 miles and about 25 mins right now. I have no choice but to go ahead with it because I've already paid. But I wish I was feeling more confident.
I wish I would have kept a running journal, I keep looking back and I'm amazed at the transformation.

Keep up the good work everyone!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: You rock!

Thanks Tiger Lily 03! I just had two days off because of this crazy holiday weekend so I am going to need your words of encouragement when I hit the road in a little bit.

I just read your motto - I need to put that on a tshirt. Especially when I'm around folks that think 2 miles is nothing.

For those of you that run first thing in the morning, what do you eat before you go?

So glad to hear that you made it through. Isn't it amazing how you can get through it, when you don't think you really can?

I've been thinking of getting one of those spibelts. Usually I run wearing a running skirt, and it has two pretty decent sized pockets, but I have a few pairs of shorts that I would need something for. I may have to go to the running store and check it out.

You'll be fine when you get there, and if you end up having to walk some of it that's fine. You'll be doing it though and that's what counts.

For those of you that run first thing in the morning, what do you eat before you go?

I usually run in the evening, mostly because I am a horrible morning person. I do a few morning runs, pretty much on the weekends. I try to wake up an hour or so before I want to go out to eat something. I don't eat much, but I want to be sure I have something. This weekend I went out in the morning and had a glass of water, some grapes before I went out. I felt pretty good, and had no real problems. When I got home I had my normal breakfast of yogurt, fruit and granola.

I'm so excited...I did my first day of week 4 yesterday and actually got through the entire thing as prescribed. It ended up being my longest distance so far 2.5 miles with the warm up and cool down walks.

I had a hard time doing my 3 min. run on W3D3 on Saturday, so I was a bit nervous about starting W4. I tossed around the idea of repeating week 3, but since I have felt the same way about starting each of my weeks I decided to just go ahead and try it.

I think what helped me this time was that I have no idea how far I was expected to run and for how long. I use Suzi's c25k podcasts on my ipod so I don't have to watch my watch when I'm running. I used Ullrey's for my first week, but the music wasn't really to my tastes. I like words when I'm running so I can sing along in my head. :) Suzi's first few weeks are hip hop and rap, and then I think some of her later ones are dance music and things like that. Much more my style.

Anyways, for week 4 she didn't put any verbal cues in. It was all timed out to the music. I started off walking to the first song, and then when the song changed I'd start running, when it changed again it was time to walk and so on. Nowhere on there did she ever say how long each running/rest interval was. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, and was thinking that I probably should have looked up what the intervals were. I ended up loving it!

Since I didn't know how long I was supposed to run I didn't get myself all paranoid before hand. I just ran, or walked when the songs changed and did the workout. I just tried to conserve energy throughout the entire workout.

I have a pretty good idea which sections were the longest runs. There were two that got a bit rough. There was the one in the middle, that didn't really get timed out well for me. As it was ending I was running up a decent sized hill. It made me have to push it that much harder. The last one was the other one that was a bit tough for me. The song selection wasn't helping either towards the end. For the most part it was fine, but towards the end the song was kind of fading out. So was I at that point, and I was finding that my running speed was quickly matching the beats to the song. If it just faded into a walk it would have been fine, but after fading the song started back up again and it was really hard to pick up the pace again. I might have even audibly groaned. Luckily it didn't last much longer.

I'm thrilled that I got through it, and can't believe that I'm quickly approaching the halfway point of the program! While I still feel like I have so far to go, I'm amazed at what I've done.

Thanks to everyone on this thread :goodvibes I was inspired to start the Ct5K and this morning I just finished W3D2. I can't believe I am doing this.

If U Had Wings: Thanks for your last post. I felt really encouraged reading about your experience with week 4. I am doing okay in week 3 but those 5min runs in week 4 have me nervous. A whole extra 2 minutes. Will I really be ready to make that leap?

My other big question for people who are ahead of me. Has anyone run for distance instead of time? I really like using the podcasts (I make my own) but am not sure how to do it for distance which is less predictable than time.

Also, I am running every other day and not 3 days/week. I think if I took off an extra day I would lose momentum/motivation. But, is that extra rest day really important for recovery? Where do people use it? Always between one week and the next?

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I can honestly say that reading all of your stories really helped me find the courage to start.

I just realized that I ran for 5 mins. twice yesteday. (Told you I had no clue how long the intervals were for Week 4). Color me a bit shocked, and a bit excited. Honestly I wouldn't have thought it was possible. (And looking at which runs were the toughest, it was the two 5 min. intervals). I'm actually glad I didn't know how long I had to run. If I had known I think I would have spent too much time focusing on how difficult I thought it would be instead of just doing it. Now that I know I can do it, I can't use any excuses for the next two runs. I'm finding that for me running is a very mental exercise. Overcoming what I think I can't do. It's really been enlightening to me to find that I can do this. I just have to keep pushing myself mentally to keep going when I think I need to quit.

Relish - just give it a try when it comes to week 4. The worst that can happen is that you have to start walking sooner. The two 5 min. intervals were tough for me, but I just kept telling myself that I only needed to get to the end of the song. Still nothing has been as rough as my W1D3 workout. That's kind of comforting in a way.

If you wanted to run distance, try to drive the distance with your car and mark the distances you need to know. Also you could check out Map My Run. It's free to register and you can use the tools to map out your runs. It shows you the distances, and the changes in elevation.

I think you should be fine running every other day. Your body will let you know if it needs a break. I have read though that you should mix in other activities to strengthen the other muscles in your body. Things like biking or swimming. I've considered adding in more runs, but I just haven't had the time. So for now I run the three days a week, do yoga once a week, and take a Zumba aerobics class twice a week. Tuesdays are my big day off! I want to start riding my bike a bit too, but I haven't been able to fit it in quite yet. I'm finding exercise to be very addictive!

Has anyone else on the c25k program had any problems with upper body soreness?

I just ran W4D1 last night. I felt fine when I got home from my run yesterday, and fine when I woke up this morning, but the longer I sit at my desk today the more achy my upper body is feeling. Specifically my shoulders and the area between them. I also went to yoga class in the morning yesterday, but I don't think it's from that. I went there early and felt fine all day long. I'm thinking it's the running, because it seems as if it's the area that would be moving as my arms pump back and forth.

This is the first post-run achyness I've had. My legs have been tired a few times, but not really sore like this. Ouch! I was going to try to go out tonight and just run a W1 schedule just to get out, but I'm thinking I may have to pass.

How is everyone doing this week? I just finished my longest run yet, 32 minutes!!! A little over 2 miles. Only 10 days until my first 5K.

If U had Wings, I have experienced some minor upper body soreness, just a little. I thought maybe I was holding my arms and shoulders tight.

Relish, keep plugging away, you will be amazed when you look back at how far you have come. I was dreading each week. I wasn't able to do the 20 minutes, can't remember which week it was. I kept at it and after two more weeks I was doing it. Not sure how but I just jumped from 8 to 20. I started out doing minutes and now I go back and forth between distance and minutes. It's easier now to just run as long as I can, I keep adding in another loop here and there in the neighborhood.

Mickeyorbust, Welcome! I was wondering about the 2008 thing too, maybe a new thread will be started in 2010.:confused3

I'll have to try to keep myself a bit looser when I'm running. I'm always prone to being a bit tight in the shoulder area anyways.

Congrats on the longest run! I still can't believe I'll ever get to where I can run 32 minutes. You must be excited about the 5K!

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. When I walk/jog I feel OK and after I really feel successful. The next day I want to jog again. Jog, jog, jog. But I don't because I need to rest. The day after that, the "edge" or desire to jog is muted and I have to plan my jog or it doesn't get done. Then I skip TWO days so I can be on a M-W-F schedule and Monday was a holiday and felt like a Sunday all day and yesterday it was raining all day and now I sit on my butt today and have not jogged since last Friday! Arrrg!

To make matters worse, I invited my tubby hubby to do the program with me when I started almost a month ago and last week after I can back crowing how I ran 3 minutes straight he said "What? You didn't wait for me? I want to jog too." *sigh* He probably didn't think I could do it and now wants to try himself. SO NOW I feel like I need to go back to Week 1 so I can be on track with him and I think I'm depressed and annoyed. I also now have to motivate two of us to get out the door this week. Hence, the Memorial Day, rain, etc problem. Once he goes back on the road it will be up to him to make it to they gym for a jog on the treadmill or outside and I'm not sure he'll keep up. *double sigh*

I defintely get that. The day after my W4D1 run I wanted to run again. There was no way my body was going to let me do that. I was even going to try to just run a W1 day, just to do something, but by the time I got home all I wanted to do was curl up on the couch. Yesterday I was supposed to do day 2, but as I was sitting on train I managed to talk myself out of running since it was cold, damp and misty. Plus I knew I hadn't gotten into my Zumba class for tonight so I told myself that I'd just run tonight instead. So far it's cold, and damp today but with rain. :headache: I feel like I need to get out no matter what tonight just to do it. Scheduling my runs is definitley a bit hard for me.
