2008 BAN Wagon Support Group

You guys are all awesome! :worship: I lurked the scrapbooking threads a lot in 2007 but because we were gone on SO many trips (first for me to do so much traveling and while it was great, its good to be home with only a couple of trips planned for this year) I knew I wouldn't get hardly any scrapping done, so I didn't post much. BUT, my goal for this year is to get so much more done.

And although I didn't get any scrapping done last year, it sure didn't stop me from buying a ton of stuff! So i have plenty to work with.

I HAVE GOT to be better about saving money this year-we need to get some projects done on the house so that in a couple of years we can hopefully sale it for more than we paid and move back to Alabama where both my DH and I are from.

Anyway.....(sorry for my rambling!) my goals are:

Free Days:
Today-I went to Joanns and they had a DCWV album on clearance and a green stamp pad
My Birthday (February 8th)
Mothers Day (or right around there since usually I get money to spend on whatever I want and I usually try to get stuff on sale so my money goes further! :thumbsup2 )
Christmas
3 other days-1

I will limit my purchasing to:
adhesives, a small amount of cardstock and only a few embellishments

and in the meantime you will probably be seeing me more this year, as I will need all of your inspiration to complete several projects! Here's to a scrappin' good year!pixiedust:

:welcome: mmkk!!!

No worries about the double posts it's a quork (sp) we are dealing with...

Jump right in and let any of us know if you need anything.. This is a great group of gals here...and we have a few guys that are around too!!! :)

Welcome MMKK! The more the merrier!

Wow! That's strength, Shauna. Way to go!

Thank you! I was proud of me!

Good job Shauna!

So which crock pot did you get? DH and I are looking into getting one but have no idea what kind.

Sorry you are having such a terrible time with the weather.

I'll delete my enabler post and re-post on the new thread.

Thanks! We ended up with the 6-quart oval that has three settings - low, high and warm. We thought about the 5.5-quart but decided the extra space was worth the $5. The 6-qt. was only $35.00 at Target so it was all good. Some people really like the programmable but in my experience, it burns the bottom of your food so I went with the old fashioned kind.

We had a 5-qt. round that died on us. It cooks on high and the low is warm so I'm keeping it for parties. We are making Caribbean Pork Roast tomorrow in the new crock so I'll tell you what I think.

No problem about the enabler. I just know that I have little to no willpower and a post like that is too yummy! :thumbsup2

I stopped at Target tonight to look at their Christmas scrapboos stuff after I read somewhere that someone asked if it should be on sale even if it's not marked, and at their store they said yes, but then I looked at a few things and decided I don't need them and they're not on my list, so I put them back and walked out. I am avoiding the dollor spot too, I always find scrapbook and other stuff I buy there and I'm trying to resist spending all around.

:cheer2: Great job everyone!! We are doing so well! :cheer2:

:welcome: Welcome mmkk!!!

I hope that I have the same willpower that you all seem to have!

Ok you guys, I lasted a whole week.

My hubby wanted to go to Target.
I caved because our finally had another scrapbooking dollar spot.
I bought 8 things.
$8 isn't too bad right?

I had $25 worth of gift cards from doing surveys so it's not like it's MY money right?

We then went to Barnes and Noble (I wanted Starbucks), and when I went to look at the crafting magazines, DH said, what about that ban you were talking about? SO I put them down and walked away :)

Gift card money doesn't count as you have to use it or it is wasted money.
Go post on the enable thread and tell me what you got. :hyper:

Good job putting the magazines back. If I could read them before I bought them, I would buy way less of them. I find less than 1/3 of the articles AND advertising apply to me.

I'm really mad the Xyron stickermaker was out of stock.

I was fairly good with my CM order - I ordered the album I wanted (It was a set with pages and vellum quotes, but I figure I still saved £4 over buying the quotes - and they're only £5.75 anyway - and I can use them on swpas and stuff as well), photo-safe pencils (for marking MIL's photos so I know who epople are) and...here is the less good :guilty: - I bought the power layout box thingy. I've been wanting to get one for a time as I think it would help with my pages (I sometimes find a photo left over and nowhere to put it). I reckon I'm investing in my business as a CMC (and lets not forget I get 30% off :rolleyes3 ) so its not too bad - I'll miss recess :rotfl:

(Anyone else find the smilies not clicking across??)

Does your library have any scrapping magazines? I check out CK and Paper Crafts at ours. I can request any issue including the current one, and they'll e-mail me when it's available. I can request stuff from other branches, and they'll deliver it to the branch closest to me. It's great. No subscription fees.

I LOVE my power layout box and use it all the time. It really helps me to organize my photos and thoughts for pages even though I don't use it exactly the way it's meant to be used. I basically pile all of the pics for a page with the paper and embellies and put them between two of the dividers and then go back and do the layouts later. It makes it alot easier to organize your thoughts, therefore it is an organizational tool rather than a scrapping item. There, did that make you feel better? :goodvibes

They used to. I'm sure they still do. It is just that the library is a good 25 minute drive in a direction that there is NOTHING else around. When gas prices increased, I stopped going.

Holy Cannoli! Help me decide if this is OK!

One of my scrap groups is doing a group Prima buy. For $20 you get a HUGE assortment of Primas of all sizes and types (and we're talking the big, nice ones - not the tiny paper kind) AND the price includes shipping.

I love Primas and I'm almost out of my stash. I don't often purchase them for myself because I can't ever stop at just one or two bottles. This purchase would be a huge savings for me since I would get a nice assortment and I wouldn't have to spend triple the amount for the variety on one of my free days.

Now the problem. I'm on a BAN people! What do I do? In the long run, it's a savings but I'd have to fall off the BAN to purchase them and then I have to reset my ticker.

I can't decide what to do. What do y'all think?

Pffff...that's easy. If you have the $20.00, go for it. You are still on the Ban, because you stopped and thought about the purchase, you are low on the supply, and you will use it. Ban the impulse and the hoarding, but don't deny something you will use...just MHO...

And I'll be sending you a check for $20 so I can join too :lmao: (just kidding...well sort of)

If you are really set on staying on the wagon with no lienency, give up one of your predetermined days or exchange to be the day you are ordering the Primas and get your other supplies as needed that day.

But I like ddavis take in that you are banning the impulse spending.

Our library is only about a 7 minute drive, and we do storytime, check out lots of kids' books, and get DVDs. So it works well for me as a magazine source.

I hear you on the price of gas thing. Between gas and taxes, I am able to justify buying things online. I used to hate shipping fees. Now shipping is cheaper than gas + tax.

Tough call on the Primas. I can see both sides. Good savings on something you were running out of and were probably going to buy on a free day anyway. I'd say take a look at your own intentions for your ban. Is it a budget thing? Is it to eliminate the purchase of those things you hoard and never get around to using? Can you afford and will you use them?

AWM has a good compromise.

How does your group get a deal like that?

Well, you said you would participate in up to 4 swaps and TRY to shop your stash. So if this could be one of your swaps...and if you can't shop your stash, well you tried.

Or you can edit your list and say, "oh, I forgot about my other scrap groups so I have to add in an extra exemption." :rotfl:
