2008, 24th/28th Aug - *Double Dipping with the Bahama Mamas* (Part 2)

Hi All

Haven't been on for a while.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers for my family members. They seem to be working.
My Mom is out of the hospital and sounds very good, and although my nephew is still unconscience 11 days after his accident, it appears the doctors are Happy with his progress, and things seem to be going as they expect. We only hope he is up and around when we pass by on the way down to Florida. So keep those thoughts and prayers coming.
It has been very busy on the board so I cannot comment to everyone, but it sounds like most are having a good Summer.
]
I am trying to get ready for the cruise and have made some door magnets , But now my Big crisis is the fish extender.
Do most of you make your own and how hard is it, or do you buy them and where do you get them.:confused3
Thanks for any advice
Mary Ellen

Mandy I hope you are having an enjoyable evening.

Yes we are thanks Danielle. Paul & I are just chilling here in front of the TV and the girls are at the cinema watching Kung Fu Panda. What are you up to now ? Have fun :)

Hey Mary Ellen, that's great to hear that the doctors are happy with your Nephews progress, I will keep him in my thoughts, and that your mum is recovering well too

I can honestly say that I am rubbish when it comes to sewing, so I cheated and bought my Fish Extender off ebay. There are loads for sale on there, just type fish extender into their search

Enjoy the rest of your day :)

Hi Mary Ellen,

That's good news about your mother. I'll keep you nephew in my prayers.

I'm going to try and make my fish extender. I'll see how successful I am this weekend. I thinks some purchased theirs from ebay. I'm sure someone can provide pictures and the link.

Glad to hear you are having a nice evening Mandy.

The boys and I were playing me vs. them in a baseball game (using a soft rubber ball and bat so we don't break any windows) and I had to forfeit after 45 minutes. I realize just how out of shape I am on a day like today!

Mary Ellen, I'm so glad to hear your mom and nephew are making progress. I will keep them in my thoughts & prayers.

I am also not very good with sewing and bought my FE off of ebay.

I was so envious of our Amish friend's sewing abilities yesteday. Those entire outfits her children were wearing, her outfit and her husband's outfits were all hand sewn. I showed her the Cal Ripken baseball patch I had to sew on Keegan's uniform and said that was the exntent of my sewing this year (I didn't tell her it took me an hour and that I was so frustrated after sewing the sleeve together 5 times I was ready to cry!) My mom is very good with sewing, quiliting, etc I've always relied on her for those things but they were in NC for the weekend when it had to be done.

Betty/Mary Ellen, I just PM'd you with the person I used from Ebay. Some others here used the smae one and they all turned out great.

Betty/Mary Ellen,

Please let me know if the PM I sent you came out as a * on your end in the first 4 letters.

Mary Ellen, when you wrote back, that's how it came out in the reply and I think that's because Disboards saw it as a slang word for a woman's chest and not a kid's nick name of boo-boo. Please let me know and I can send it again with a space so it won't pick it up.

Hi Veronica

Yes it was nice having Kerry to myself today :)

You must let us know the dates of Bryan & Emily's birthday, as we'll want to post 'Happy Birthday's' to them.
You are always so good at keeping track of everyone:hug: Emily will be 2 on July 25th and Bryan will be 6 on July 31st

Are any of you Castaway Clubber's prone to seasickness? If so, what do you usually do for it? Taylor's doctor recommended kid's Dramamine for her. What about adults?
Betty, unfortunately I am one of those who suffers seasickness no matter where we sail or what ship (we've done 10 cruises though so you can tell it doesn't deter me). Most likely you will not get sick because most people don't but I agree with Danielle that Bonine is the best! Bonine is the reason I continue to cruise - I can take it and it doesn't make me fall asleep like Dramamine. I just found Kid's Bonine that I picked up just in case (although both of my kids were fine on the 7 day we did in November). I'm sure you and Taylor will be fine though but when I go on a cruise I tend to over pack all my medications because its not like you can run to Target and the stores onboard are very pricey.

I'm glad to hear that your mom and nephew are doing better - I hope they have full and quick recoveries. Like many others on this board I can't sew at all so I bought my fish extender on ebay too.

Glad to hear you are having a nice evening Mandy.

The boys and I were playing me vs. them in a baseball game (using a soft rubber ball and bat so we don't break any windows) and I had to forfeit after 45 minutes. I realize just how out of shape I am on a day like today!
I feel your pain - when I play baseball with Bryan I realize that I am not as young or in shape as I used to be!

Hope everyone is having a great day! I'm just looking forward to Tom coming home in a couple of hours so I don't have to do the two on one defense with the kids tonight:goodvibes

Thank you. I think to be safe I will get some Bonine for both of us.

Thanks Danielle,

I got your PM and can read the information.:thumbsup2

my everybody was chatty today on the thread:thumbsup2 I'll bet as we get closer it will be fast and furious postings:cool1:

We have all felt fine on our previous cruises but I always have motion sickness meds on hand "just in case" The kids have never said they felt a thing. I always have the feeling that I am moving AFTER i get off of the cruise. I remember sitting at our kitchen table about a week later saying"don't you all feel that rocking?" they think I am nuts lol. It usually last about 2 weeks for me but obviously nothing that deters me from cruising;)

Danielle, Those were nice pics but are u sure they are true amish people or menonites? I am pretty sure that true amish wouldn't let their children be photgraphed or ride in a car. My friend lives in lancaster and that is what she told me . The menonites are a less restrictive group of amish. Anyway looks like the kids had fun.

QUOTE]

Michelle,

Amish children may have their pictures taken, it has something to do with the fact that they are not fully accepted into the church until their late teen years. Amish can ride in cars but may not drive them although there are some that own cars that are all black with no chrome. Back when I used to train firefighters it was interesting to see them arrive at the fire house in a buggy or on foot or horseback and then jump on a modern bright red fire truck. At least they had their priorities straight!

Betty,

I am trying to make mine, but I am having issues with the pockets. and I can't decide what to put on the pockets so I am holding off, I don't want to sew them on and then mess up the names or whatever.

The catamaran is Disney excursion.

Becca is just 4 levels below the girls competing in the olympics so she has to train all the time, if they don't they will lose too much muscle tone. I am so jealous of my kid's abs and shoulders!!! Yes we do get to play a bit, we swim and bowl and on Thursday i am taking Niki to Philly for the premeir of Mamma Mia. We have these voucher things so you have to get there early and stand in line, I hope we get in!! If not, we will shop and eat!!

We didn't go overboard (ha ha) on the pirate night, but I may still get something together. I am swamped with work, driving kids around, planning Sami's party ( Aug 7th), fish extendrs and trying to figure out what I am going to teach this child in the fall. We have actually already started on a bit of work, she is writing a paper about the history of the olympic games. It is rather cool when you can choose what topics you want to study and how you want to learn about them!

Betty how far are you from Walnut Street?

Danielle, you are going to have some horrible heat for your tournement this weekend. Keep me posted on how it is going, I don't think I will have time to get out there, but you never know.

Diane

Good Morning Bahama Mama's (& Papa's too)

It was great to see our thread so busy yesterday, I hope you're all around again today :thumbsup2

Today is Becky's last full day of Work Experience. She'll be working at a school all day today, then all she's doing tomorrow is helping at her Youth Club tomorrow night - and then she's off for the Summer - woohoo !!!

Once I've dropped her off at 'work', I'll pop over to see my mum, so a quiet day for me today

Have a great day everyone :thumbsup2 What are you all up to today ?

I hope to catch up with some of you later for sailaway

Well - good morning everyone!!!!!

I survived the party - all went extremely well! Ant got some GREAT gifts and it is ALL over - I am trying to upload pics now! Thanks again for all of the birthday greetings - as his day started grumpy yesterday, those brightened him up a bit!

So - LOTS to catch up on here!! So - here I go!

Michele - WHERE WERE YOU?? :confused3 I see everyone was on and posting away and you were missing!! I hope all is well over there! I know you are usually busy running around during the day! Hopefully things will slow down and we'll be able to chat a bit SOON!

Sandy - another MIA member - yesterday everyone was coming out of the woodwork and you weren't around much either!! I did get to sneak a bit of a chat w/you in the morning though!! :rolleyes1

Mandy - well, as far as the diet thing - :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I did great last week, then I had the party, and cake after cake after cake - so, that's shot! LOL Only 5 weeks to go - I guess I could TRY to lose 10 pounds! :rolleyes1 How did the girls like Kung-Fu Panda?? Enjoy your visit w/your Mom today! Hope she is feeling better!

Jen - So, how did the weather turn out for you yesterday? Were you able to get any swimming in? You weren't on that much either yesterday!!! (look at me - scolding everyone for not being on - where the hell was I? LOL) - Did you get to take your nap? I guess all of that findadeath.com the night before had you "knackered".. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Veronica - so, how was Tom's trip? Wait till Bryan sees the cake that we had yesterday - I am downloading pics now!! You are going to HAVE to get it for him!!!! Let me know about DC when you figure it all out - I did look on the Nat's site and no tix available, but - it directs you to 'stub hub' and they have PLENTY! So - we should be good! Pump it up was great yesterday - Bryan is going to have a blast at his party! I am telling you - why didn't WE thing of that business - the kids have a great time and it all runs SO smoothly!

Suz - How are things there? Have you been spending A LOT of time in the pool? (and hopefully not the bushes! LOL) And I must say - you were also scarce yesterday!! LOL

Betty - OK so - we ARE going to FI today- I can't wait, we've never been there, and being it is going to be SOOOOOOOOOOO hot outside, a nice inside 'trip' will be refreshing!!!! As far as seasickness - Carm got a prescription from the doc for these patches and he used those on the 1st cruise, but found out after using them for 2 days that he wasn't bothered and didn't use them the rest of the cruise, and hasn't used them since. Just take whatever precautions to avoid it and you'll be fine - bring whatever you think you might need - because I heard heading to the doc/first aid onboard is SUPER expensive! LOL As far as the FE thing - I bought on Ebay also - from the same lady that Danielle bought from. Actually I contacted her via Disboards, but her auctions are on ebay as well!

Here's a pic of mine:
P1030728.jpg

Danielle - It is something about the Amish - I know I couldn't live that way! But, very sad that they knew the girls in that horrible killing last year. I couldn't even imagine... As far as Pirate night - I think we'll probably do Pirate t-shirts or something, I KNOW my boys won't do costumes and no way Carm will! LOL And you have baseball ALL weekend - it is going to be SO hot! Be sure to keep plenty of COLD water on hand!! I'll be thinking about you!

Diane - you are making your FE too? I would love to see some pics of it when you get it finished.

Sorry if I missed anyone! I think I did a pretty OK catch up job for 6 in the morning! LOL
*******

So, here is my excitement over here - The party was great! Glad that is all over! Work is ................. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :scared1: That's all I am saying - I might be working on Saturday, but we'll see - hopefully I can do whatever I need to do from here and not make that drive!

As I mentioned - we are off to the Franklin Institute today - so, that is exciting, at least it is a place that we've never been to before - usually I am a 'creature of habit' - and don't broaden my horizons... LOL

Other than that - my house is a mess, my typing work is piling up, the dogs are making me nuts - Ya know - the usual stuff!!

Anyway, let me get going - have to hop in the shower and organize myself before the boys get up!

I am uploading some pics as we speak, so, I'll try to pop back and forth while I am getting ready and post a few!!

Hope you all have a great day! :flower3:

Hey Laurie, it sounds like the party was a great success. I love both Ant's birthday cakes - especially the Mets one - very cool

Your photos are brilliant and it looks like the kids had a fab time :thumbsup2

Have fun at the Franklin Institute, I checked it's website and it looks like a cool place for a visit

Becky enjoyed Kung Fu Panda, but Kerry wasn't impressed. I think the next movie they're going to see is Wall E, but I can't see Kerry enjoying that either :(

The twins - I am not liking my frumpy top half at all! Damn - should've started that diet a LONG time ago - oh, wait - I did! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
P1040539.jpg

Oh Laurie, you crack me up :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I like that photo of you both :) My diet lasted till Monday afternoon this week, so I'm hoping to at least stay the same with my weigh-in tomorrow (fingers crossed ;) )

Have a great day today :thumbsup2

Betty how far are you from Walnut Street?

I brought some Disney iron-ons for the pockets (no names). I might put our last name on the top if I'm feeling ambitious :) We live in West Philadelphia near City Ave. Maybe about 15 minutes or so from Center City. What day are you coming into the city?

Laurie,

The pictures are great! It looks like everyone had great time.I love planning the parties but I'm happy when they are over :faint: Have fun at the FI. It's a great place to be on such a hot day. I just hope you don't run into a lot of campers. That can make the place pretty crouded. :crowded: Enjoy.

Hi Mandy,

Enjoy the rest of your afternoon!

Taylor loved both Kung Fu Panda and Wall-E. They were both just okay for me. We want to see the Kit movie before it's gone. Maybe Sunday afternoon.

Afternoon Ladies,
Laurie glad the party went well yesturday and the kids had fun. I liked the pics from the twin meeting except for that one of us on the couch..i look hideous..:rotfl: my eyebrows look weird and my expression is odd.You look fine in it though so stop complaining..lol.

Mandy, Hope to catch u at sailaway later..it seems like it has been forever since we chatted.I hope you are enjoying your day today.

Sandy, Nice to hear that nicole and tori are chatting to each other..i think they are going to have a great time. Tori should get bethany to start chatting with the others too.

Veronica, Can't wait for our meeting at the mall in august it should be fun.

Betty, My kids think i am nuts because i started packing already...:rotfl: :rotfl: I have to thin it out though i have 9 bags packed for the 5 of us..jeff is complaining. I wish my kids were more excited about packing for the cruise like taylor is. They won't give up their clothes until right before we leave..lol.i told mandy that i sneak in their rooms and steal one or two things to get started...:rotfl2:

Danielle, I guess my friend is clueless...:rotfl: thanks for explaining it to me. Those little girls were so cute in the picture. My kids are always repeating things i have said that they shouldn't..lol..so i can just imagine how u felt when brennan did it to you..lol.

Well i am off to target to get some last minute sale items and a new dog bed for nikko..he keeps eating the stuffing out of all his beds.

Michele,

If we were packed, Taylor would want to move the luggage downstair and next put them in the trunk of the car. :rotfl: That's how excited she is. If I don't start laying out some things soon she might start sneaking into my room and taking stuff:lmao:

Wow packing already...I will probably start like the week of cause i'm crazy like that....the only stuff I will pack probably with in the next few weeks will be the wedding stuff just so thats done....but my clothes, my dress & his tux won't be packed till right before. I 'm scared to keep my gown in a bag that long lol....so right now its in my aunts house we will probably go get it the Thursday before we leave lol....and then it will stay in a garment bag until they take it from me at the port to steam it lol...
