2007 Wonder Thanksgiving Cruise

No, there was no real formal night, alot of people dressed up nicely for Thanksgiving though. I saw many men in suits but my dh just wore khakis and a button up shirt. I had my kids in matching outfits just for photo op purposes.

Yes, I decorated our door...but I didnt think to take a picture...I am still kicking myself about it. I had made a sign for our family with our names and stuff about it being Thanksgiving etc..and then one of the board members who we met up with made us all door signs...you can see it as part of my signature at the bottom of this post.

Here we are for Thanksgiving..

Thanks!! We don't have kids yet, so this won't be a problem for us. Was there a formal night on the cruise, or at least a dress up night?

I think this is the one time when it will be easy to get reservations at Palo, as most folks will be with children. In 2005, we only did Palo brunch for just this reason. I agree with Shellyr25, many folks were dressed nicely for Thanksgiving dinner. No tuxes, but there were some suits and a lot of sport jackets.

Did you decorate your door, or notice anyone else who had? I am the ultra plan aheader (if that's a word...), and I was going to start getting some ideas. Maybe some more people will joing our board soon!:dance3:

We also decorated the door. I will get some pictures posted in the not too distant future.

I think that people tend to dress up more on the cruises that actually fall on the holiday. On the 2005 Thanksgiving cruise, our first night (Wednesday) was in Triton's, and while waiting to enter I noted that about half the men had on jackets and many others had dress shirts and ties. That night was officially "cruise casual." Triton's lends itself to dressier attire. We all dressed up that night for Triton's and again on Thanksgiving night (not formal, of course) because of the general atmosphere of holiday and celebration.

Thanks for the BUMP. I have been looking for this thread.
It will not be that long until Thanksgivingpopcorn::

So excited!! DD still does not know. It will be her 13th birthday. :cool1: Still undecided as to how or when to tell her . . . any good surprise ideas out there :earseek: ???

Happy Fourth of July everyone!!

Did anyone else receive their package from DCL? It lists the dates for making reservations, that dreaded final payment, and the start of the cruise. I also rechecked the itinerary.

Wednesday, November 21, Port Canaveral
Thanksgiving, November 22, Nassau
Friday, November 23, Day at Sea
Saturday, November 24, Castaway Cay
Sunday, November 25, Port Canaveral

Two years ago, on our day at sea, we buzzed Castaway Cay to say 'Hi' to the Magic.

We still need to work on our transportation to the Port and our reservations the night before the cruise.

I may try to put together a web page with all the families going to help us figure stuff out. I have done that for prior cruises, and it seemed to help people get to know each other.

We are headed to WDW on Saturday for a Dance Convention / Competition for DD11. Looks like rain the entire week, but maybe that will keeps the crowds (and heat) down.

By the way barney4liz, have you told DD12 (turning to DD13) about the cruise yet?

No and it's a good thing because I ended up having to re-book for a different date!! :sad1: Some family-related conflicts arose making a T'giving trip complicated. We re-booked for the 3-day cruise departing 1/3/08. So it will now be a surprise CHRISTMAS present!! :cool1:

We will miss having the day at sea, though. After our last 3-day we really thought it was not enough and we were looking forward to the 4-day. But that trip was more complicated b/c we organized everything for my parents and brother as well, and this one will just be the 3 of us.

Sorry I will miss everyone at T'giving!! Will look forward to reading the trip reports.

Well, aren't we a quiet group. I booked a room at the Radisson for the night before the cruise, and signed up for the 10:00 am shuttle.

Not sure if I mentioned this, but we are now thinking of driving, instead of flying. Airfares are just crazy, and it is only about an eight hour drive. We won't get to the Radisson until late, but oh well.

We can start making reservations later this month. Ironically, I don't think there is anything we want to do. Two years ago, we did Palo for Brunch on the Sea Day. But I think we would have just enjoyed going to the adult pool, or spending time with the DDs.

I am also thinking of transferring the reservation to Dreams Unlimited. We would only get a $25 room credit, but heck, $25 is $25.

That's it for now. Anyone else?

Even though we are Castaway Club members, and could have made reservations 90 days out, there were no reservations that were 'must haves'. So, at 77 days out, we made our final payment. Just for fun, I looked at Palo reservations. There were many openings for every night. I booked Friday night, which I believe is going to be Pirate Night.

I did not check for Brunch. When we did brunch two years ago, it took away from some other the other activities we wanted to do as a family on the sea day.

We still don't know what we want to do in Nassau. We did Blackbeard's Cay and it was okay, so we will probably try something else. I think we really are just looking to go to the beach.

Anyone else?

I am so glad to finally find this thread for our cruise! It will be me, DH, DS21, DS11 and DD8. We are so excited for the cruise!

Only bummer is we tried to register for the parasailing, and it was showing unavailable on the ressie screen. I emailed DCL, and they said it was not offered now, nor would it be on our cruise. Apparently some kind of issue with the vendor that ran the excursion.

But, we got all the other ressies, and the kids are already counting down. We all cruised last October, except for DS21 - its his first cruise - but he too is excited.

Hope to see you all onboard!!

Welcome to the quiet group Jesters. I'll see if I can get my DD9 to send a private message to your DD8.

We received another confirmation from DCL after making our final payment. The onboard time for Nassau is 7:00 pm. I am thinking that is later than before.

I booked the Atlantis beach day excursion for us in Nassau. We still may swap back to Blackbeard's Cay.

I see that Palo brunch is now no longer available. DDs are very excited that DW and I may do Palo dinner on Friday. On our last cruise, they went to dinner by themselves, and enjoyed being 'grown up'.

One week from today - to the minute - we are leaving home for the airport. :cheer2: We head north for two hours to pick up DM and then head to Cleveland for our flight.

This year's t-shirts are red. There will be about 20 of us ranging in age from 1 to 86. Like the Gales, we did this in 2005 - What a great way to have Thanksgiving with family.

Thanks for finding the thread - I did a search yesterday and did not find it - but in the process, learned lots about Thanksgiving at the parks and on the ship :goodvibes.

lol, don't mess up the dates!!!

We think we are going to leave tomorrow (Monday) night. Both DDs' have checked with their teachers, and nothing is currently planned for Tuesday. So it does not seem to be an issue for them to miss one day of school.

But they both have activities Monday night, so we leave about 8:00 pm, drive for three hours, then go the rest of the way on Tuesday. This should have us arriving at the Radisson mid afternoon.

We went for t-shirts yesterday. We couldn't find the same color in all our sizes. So DDs will have red, DW and I will have lime green. DW is having second thoughts about wearing the t-shirt, so it may just be DDs and me.

Oh, and we finally figured out what we are doing in Nassau. We are going to the Hilton right next to the dock. (I actually looked at it on Google Satellite, and it looks like it is about two ship lengths from the doc.) It is $15 per person (kids might be free).

We were thinking about Atlantis, but since it is Thanksgiving, we know we want to get back to the ship in time for dinner. None of the options seemed to be worth the cost.
