2007 Transatlantic and First Med cruises thread

Hey all you seasoned cruisers...I ahve a question for you.

What is the deal with "rebooking" aboard? Is it true that I can put a deposit down on a room now to secure a cabin aboard the ship and then when I'm aboard later this fall I can "rebook" (basically cancel the room and immediately rebook it) so that I can have the same sail dates and cabin but get the price discount and stateroom credit offered when you book onboard?
Yes this is true.

Can you do the same thing if a room is booked wiht points?
No, you can not. Once booked with points you are set with that date and price. Discounts do not apply at all. Not even room credits.

In May 2009 we're taking my parents on their first cruise.....and we'd like to get the adjoining Cat 7's on the Wonder for a 4-night....get one room for us with points and one for them with cash through our travel agent.....but we're afraid if we wait until we're aboard the Magic in Sept./Oct then we'll lose the rooms (which are available now).

Thanks for any input!!
Book them - the points room can not be switched - you can upgrade, but not re-book that one (see above) the cash room can be re-booked and moved around, assuming the cabin you want is available.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Looks like a great group getting together for the May WDW gathering of the Minds.

Got the tile all grouted and buffed out, one more buffing let set a couple of days, seal it up, finish trim the room, install the plumbing fixtures, touch up the paint, hang a towel rack or two, install a mirror and Tah! Dah! a big done stamp. Then on to the next room.

Clear and nice here today just got back from a 7 mile run, felt good. Sorry to hear you mid west and NE folks are getting dumped on. Well wherever you go you take the weather with you.

Kelly are you also doing the DL 1/2. There is a special medal fr those of us who have done either the WDW 1/2 or full and the DL 1/2, KEWL!! more Bling. LOL

Just checked the Flower Power Concert series and Arlo will be there on May1-3 and we have reservations at Alices' Resturant after we arive on the City of New Orleans, that is if my bags don't get checked buy the Customs Man, but what the heck I don't want a Pickle just want to ride my Motor CY Kle. :goodvibes :flower3: :flower3: Ah the 60's they were the best of times they were the worst of times:flower3: :flower3: :hippie: :hippie:

OK we figured out how to do our May 2009 cruise booking with my parents. We got our TA to tell us the exact stateroom numbers we needed to book to get two adjoining Cat. 7 cabins on the wonder and check if they were available....and there was a set that were both open....6140 & 6142. So we booked one with cash in my parents' name and one with our points in Jason and I's name----and I think we got pretty good deals actually! Our TA was able to get our room for just over $400 less than we were getting quoted on DCL's website......and for points....for some odd reason it was 13 points cheaper to sail in 2009 than it woudl be for the same dates in 2008 (according to the DVC points charts online). We got them both confirmed and the reservations got linked so we're all set. If we can get a good rebooking onboard in the fall then we'll rebook my parents' cabin to save ourselves a little money and try to get them a shipboard credit that they can use towards excursions, spa, or tips (our gift to them was that we are using our points for a stay at WDW and we're paying for the ROOM on the boat.....but they agreed to pay for their own park tickets, their own airfare, and all the extra charges on the ship).

Thanks for the tips folks sent us!

I can't even figure out what page we landed on....

Two months to go to our little gathering :) If any of our friends have found us again, here is a reminder

Open House
Gathering of Friends

Friday, May 2
4 pm "ish" to 8 pm "ish"
Old Key West Resort

This will be an open house with wine and cheese and other snacks. Since there will be many from this cruise, the Panama 2005 cruise and some of my pin friends there at the same time it is a great time to get together!

I will post my room number when we arrive or PM me and I will give you my last name and you can call the resort and ask for my room. I will put a message on the voice mail.

Hope you can join us!

Debbie

Hey Scott, I'm doing the 5K's at both - knees won't allow the 1/2! Are you and Lynn doing the 5K at the minnie or just the 1/2?

Just the 15K for the Minne. The 5K for the DL 1/2 and WDW marathon weekend.

St Paddy day 5 K in Fort Collins.

So is early May a time when many of you are OFTEN going to WDW? (Don't they always have a marathon around then??). Because Jason and I will be there with my parents in May 2009....and while that's a long way away....i think we know from experience it's never too soon to be thinking about when to meet our DIS friends at WDW!!! We are booked on the Wonder for a 4 day that sets sail on May 10th....but we're planning on checking into a resort on may 1st and being in Orlando for the 9 days prior to the cruise. (We are going to book a 1 BR at AKL for those days....and hope we get a Savanna view room in Kadani Village (the new buildings that will have just been completed) right at our 11 month window.....however if at the 7 month window we can switch our reservation to get a 1 BR at Beach Club we might do that.....we love AKL and my parents love it, too...but my mother is a pool person and so I think she'd really love Stormalong Bay (or whatever it's called) at Beach Club if we can get it.....although I've heard the DVC pool they're building at Kadani Village is gonna be awesome, too.)

We are only going this May for the Minnie 15K race, it is the last one, it will be replaced next year by a Princess themed 1/2 marathon, and I do not know if we will be doing that one. The Minnie does allow men to race, although all the goodies are womens, so Scott will not get a t shirt and I will get 2! Rumor has it that the Princess 1/2 marathon will be female only. Others may go in May normally, but we don't very often, unless it is connected with a cruise.

Sometimes.... Usually the end of April, beginning of May we will go. But not always. Boy was that wishy washy :rotfl2:

I can just see Scott with a Minnie shirt and ears running around WDW. But please, not polka-dot dress.::MinnieMo

Kelly, sorry to hear that you will have to be vacationing with the masses. I don't know if we would ever go to DL or WDW if we had to vacation with the masses!

Hi Everyone

Wish we could zip over to WDW for the May meet, but it's just not in the cards.

I hope everyone has a great time!!!

Pull her out of school!!!! Don't go with the masses, I am a rebel with that. Most of the time, they will get more out of the trip (Transatlantic) then in school. Abby is learning about the Strait of Gibraltor and her test is today and she is bringing in all her pictures. Her teacher is thrilled! By the way, for any of you history buffs, her history book said that the Strait is man-made. I didn't think it was and cannot find it anywhere - not even the internet. I know most of you are smarter then me :) but is the Strait man-made? Looking forward to seeing everyone in 2 months, I just wish we could take the cruise! Last year was so memorable and I know I will be a little depressed :sad1: this Mother's Day - the last 2 years I was on Castaway and you cannot get better then that!:)

Is the Strait of Gibraltar man made?
Question:

Answers:
No, the Straits were created about 5.5 Million Years ago when the Atlantic Ocean broke through a tiny barrier and flooded the basin which would become the Mediterranean Sea. I read a really good article and I saw something on PBS' Nova.
