2007 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC07 - October 21, 2007

Ok can I tell you all I'm feeling a little stupid right now. All this talk about Flounders and then Kay saying she had the hours...well I was adding something to the FAQ this afternoon and sure enough we have a link about Flounders that lists the hours. :lmao:

Flounders

The hours listed was from one of the double dips that went to CC twice (just like we are doing) and it looks like they were open from 9 am to 1 pm. So plenty of time for snorkeling since it is best to do that first thing in the morning.

Speaking of the FAQ - Shirley from the Perfect Gift put up a great new info thread on the main board. Some great info on the Port Canaveral area. I put up a link in the FAQ.

Joanne - the only other cruise message board I know of is cruise critic. I think there is another one but can't remember the name of it. I don't know of a board dedicated to just Princess like this one is to Disney.

Cobbler - since you are a first time cruiser you book at 75 days out which by my calculations is 8/7. Booking is midnight Pacific, 1 am Mountain, 2 am Central and 3 am Eastern.

I would go ahead and book the bike/float/snorkel rental online. Then you don't have to worry about it and the tickets will be delivered to your stateroom.

thanks, Mary - I was waiting for Karen to get home from work and then she called from the emergency vet's office and she has one of her pets there because she got home and he could not walk. So off she went again.

I do remember also that you have to make an appointment and you just can't bring the baby in. Their schedule seems to be very strict.

But I'll still get the brochure from Karen and see what it says.

Well, after four long years of not working due to being very sick, I start working on July 27th at one of our local hospitals as a volunteer in their clerical department. I figured I spent most of the four years as a patient, I might as well see what I can do to help out. I have my orientation on Friday.

My Drs. have to give the OK and I don't think there will be a problem there.

If it ends up that I can't handle it, I'll just quit, I guess.

Had the TB test today and will have it read on Friday and then on the 27th when I get back from Disney, I'll have the 2nd one done right before I start work.

Sounds like I will enjoy it a lot. I have really missed working. I know, some people would die not to "have" to work. :rolleyes1

Then I turned my application into Bank of America to work PT also. Didn't want to wait on them. And besides, they might want someone with experience at banking. I know the Manager and she asked me to turn the app. in. So I did.

Guess that will curb and put a stop to my cruising whenever I want to - maybe :lmao:

Everything that I have planned so far is still a go. I at least got that approval today at the first interview.

Congrats on getting back into the work force Kay.

I'm one who would like to be not working but I guess it is part of the grass is always greener. I'm sure if I was home all day I'd soon want to be back doing some kind of work.

I just booked Jet Blue for our upcoming Member Cruise.

Now time to tackle how we are going to get to Port Canaveral since we've got our hotel ressies there and then to the Terminal in the morning.

I was thinking of using some sort of limo service but how would that work? We are getting there the night before the cruise so we will need to get to the hotel from the airport, then the next morning we need to get to PC. I'll have to think about this one.

Any ideas? We currently have the Raddison but I am thinking about switching to the hilton.

Good morning everyone. Theresa this may help. It is from Shirley's info post on the Port Canaveral area:

Travelling to and from Orlando (MCO) airport and to the port

When you exit the airport you will merge onto the Highway 528 (also called Beachline 528) and travel about 45 miles to Cape Canaveral. There is one toll to pay which is $1.25. There are no restaurants along the way until the highway ends and becomes a 4-lane surface street. Travel time: 45 mins.

Look here for a huge list of transportation options: http://www.portcanaveral.org/cruisin...dtransport.php

Car Rental
All agree that the cheapest option is to rent a car one-way from the airport, drive to the port, drop luggage/family off at port, drop rental car off and take rental car shuttle back to the port. Repeat in reverse for your post-cruise trip back to the airport. Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Avis and all have drop off locations and free round trip shuttles very close to the port (companies are listed in order of closeness to the port). These four places are open on Sundays and their port shuttles start early in the morning until the afternoon.

National does not have shuttle service to the port. Enterprise has a location on Merritt Island which is a barrier island between the mainland and the beach. They will shuttle you both ways during normal business hours which are M-f 9-6 and Sat 9-12. The closest Dollar car rental is on South Babcock in Melbourne which is about 20 to 25 mins away from the port. Your best bets are Budget, Thrifty, Avis and Hertz.

Can I walk to the port from my hotel?

It’s about 2 miles from the closest hotel (Raddison or Country Inns and Suites), along a highway with no sidewalk. Not recommended!

After car rental, the next recommended alternative to a taxi is a shuttle service.

Shuttle companies:

Cocoa beach Shuttle 321-631-4144 or 888-784-4144; www.cbshuttle.com
Art’s Shuttle 321-783-2112 or 800-567-5099; www.artsshuttle.com (Mention Disboard for 10% discount)
Note: Most of the popular shuttle companies servicing the port are not private shuttles (they will wait for all reservations to board before leaving). If you need a private shuttle request it specifically!

Towncar/Private Van companies:

Florida Tours http://www.fltours.com//

Sunrise Florida Transportation. http://www.transportationflorida.com/

Taxi Service to the port and around the port area:

One way from the Orlando airport to the port is 70-80 dollars. Taking a taxi from your Cocoa Beach / Cape Canaveral hotel to the port will run you around $5-7. 10 minutes drive time from anywhere in Cocoa Beach.

Checker Cab of Brevard County 321-799-0377
Tropical Storm 321-783-4445
Space Port Transport 321-986-8026
Yellow 321-636-1234
Beach Line 321-704-0502
Cape Canaveral Cab 321-783-8294

One-Way Taxi Rates from Cape Canaveral to:

International Drive $95-120

Space Coast Regional Airport $65-85
Orlando Sanford International Airport $90-100

Welcome back to the working world Kay. When we first moved here I had a hard time finding a job. So I did volunteer work. It will keep you busy. It's nice to get out tof the house and meet new people.

Have a great Thursday.

thanks - right now it is only 3 mornings a week. Don't think I can handle anymore than that right now. Also, the it is so close to the house that I could actually walk there. But I won't - I'll waste the gas and drive around the corner.

Dr. didn't call and give his approval yesterday. Hope it isn't a problem with him. :confused3 :confused3

Thanks Mary for the info, I was reading that last night so I will just have to decide what to do.

Kay, congrats on going back to work.

August 7th?? Wow, that is coming up super fast!!

Have you all booked your excursions yet?

Oh my, 3:00 am on Monday morning. This could be interesting . . . :scratchin

I hope DH likes whatever I manage to book with my eyes half open.:rolleyes1

My DH has a passport at work, it was applied for by the DoD and they keep it locked in a file cabinet there.

Can he apply for another one which he will use for personal use? Will the Department of State think it's odd that he's applying for another passport?

We don't want his work one reissued as if he were applying because it was lost, we want one for his personal use.

Well it it's a Diplomat Passport he will want to get a regular on for personal travel. You can get two passports w/o a problem, I've known people to have two. I am not 100% which they got first so you will still need someone to verify i.e. personal first then dip or dip then personal.

oh man - I must be losing my mind. I thought I posted a long post and now I can't find it. Maybe I just dreamed it. Oh well :confused3 Now that isn't good............... I probably forgot to click on submit reply. I better get my thoughts together:confused:

Good morning everyone!

Ursula - sorry I can't help on the passport question but it sounds like Theresa was able to help!

Theresa - nice job doing a test log on. I have to remember to go on the DCL site this weekend and make sure I can get into our reservation. I think while I'm on I'll go ahead and do the online check-in. One more thing to check off our list and make us closer to cruise time! :)
