Well, dd made a decision about college. She opted for the school she likes best, even though she didn't make the cheer team. She'll try again in the fall...but I suspecct her cheerleading career is over, and that's making me very sad.
She should look into a part time job as a coach. Our All Star team has a couple of college age coaches and the kids love them. They have the experience, the great attitudes and the cool, hip vibe. Often the head coach will leave the room (when a practice isn't going well) and has the younger assist coach try to get the girls motivated.
or, how about volunteering for a local Pop Warner or Pee Wee football cheer team. These are often coached by parents with little to no experience. I won't let my girls do any intermediate stunts unless they have a real coach (too dangerous) this past year their head coach (a mom) was more like the team mother and the assist coach (college girl) was the real coach.
I won't let them do any advanced stunting, too dangerous on the football field and the school gyms with no mats.
Although, my daughter's gym doesn't require returning cheerleaders to attend tryouts we just had to sit and wait to find out what team she would be placed on after everyone else tried out. Right now she's on Youth 2 but that could change by the end of the summer. I'm happy with her placement as I feel she has the most potential for growth there! How bout everyone else????
Nothing about dd as she is on a lower level, but the things I heard........WOW!!
Thems some mean mamas!!
Her best friends didn't fare as well, though. One didn't make any squad (she had only circled varsity on her forms though; if you didn't circle JV they didn't put you on it). Another only made JV basketball. One only tried out for football and didn't make it. Of her best buddies one made varsity basketball. I told her this will show how much she actually likes cheering other than just socializing, because for football she knows and likes all of the girls, but isn't really close with any of them like she was with these other girls. I hear a couple of the moms are heading into school on Monday, so I can only hope the coaches have the point sheets to back up their placements.
