We are considering spending New Years Eve and the week of New Years at Disney next year. Can anyone give me some information on how the crowds are during week of Jan 1 - Jan 6. I know New Years Eve and New Years day will be very crowded but do the crowds diminish after the 1st? Also are there any discounts on rooms during those dates? What is the best resort to stay at for New Years Eve? We would spend the weekend at 1 resort then switch over to a DVC resort for the Sunday thru Friday dates. When would we have to make ressies by in order to get a room? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks........

We go this week every year, and will be arriving on the 2nd this year. The crowds are awful on New Years Day/Eve Day, but diminish quite a bit right after and become very manageable for the week, if not quite "light." As for getting a room, it isn't that hard, I just added another studio room we needed about a month ago at SSR without problem! As for discounts on non-DVC places to stay, if you keep your eye out in early fall they have typically run discounts for this time of year, but sometimes they will not become available to mid January. It's a crap shoot. As for the best New Years Eve Resort, that is subjective. In my opinion Epcot or DTD would be the places to be if you want craziness...

Just to add New Years Day (at least the morning) is the least busy I have ever seen except way off season. 2 hours at opening we did all major rides at MK and went back to the hotel.

We'll be there with you...Jan 1-6th, 2006. It will be our first winter trip to WDW...and I'm looking forward to cool weather and low crowds.

We'll let you know! We will be there 1/1 - 1/8/05 and like kweaver we are looking forward to cool weather and low crowds!

Just a word of caution - after you spend New Years Eve at Disney, you will never see anything like it ever again and every year you will be doing whatever it is you are doing and thinking - oh if only we were at Disney again for New Years!

We had the greatest time on New Years Eve and only Disney can do something that grand! My kids absolutley loved it too.

But yes the parks were packed! MK was closed by lunch as was Epcot. We went 3 days before and they were all packed and 3 days after and they were so quiet. New Years Day was very quiet IMO.

You will enjoy yourselves at New Years!

I did not enjoy New Year's Eve particularly at WDW--it RAINED for Illuminations and it was very crowded, and people were ruder than usual, due to the many people drinking. However, having said that, New Year's Day was wonderful because no one was there! There were many people regretting the previous evening, I think! :D Next year school begins on January 2, so the families will be gone.

I totally agree with your comments. We were at WDW last year for NYE and loved it. We were sitting at home last night thinking about how last year we were at Disney Studios having a great time. We decided we need to do it again for 2005-2006 NYE again. Last year, NYE was on Thursday, so the parks were a bit more crowded until about Sunday, then during the week it wasn't crowded at all until the following weekend when the marathon guests arrived.

2005 xmas winter break starts the thurs before xmas and runs for two weeks. As you can see several people in atlanta probably have already booked that week. . . .not here though we are going to Hawaii in 2006 :cloud9:

I'm still waiting for the school calendar to be approved, but tentatively school starts back January 5. If that's the case, I want to go maybe December 30-January 4. I've been before arriving January 1 but never been there fore NYE.

Chasbos,

I also agree with your quote. My husband and I did Pleasure Island last year with Blondie and the Sugar Hill Gang and we just knew that nothing could compare. We are also planning on heading back in 2005/2006 for NYE and are planning on bringing several friends with us. However, our intentions are only to party at Pleasure Island; no parks for us at all. Just a quick two to three day trip.

Lower points, and DD doesn't have to be in school....

Is it worth the extravegant high points to be here for NYE FW's?

Like 75 points for a 1 BR for 1 night!

and I'm confused. I'd like to see the FW, but no way DD will last. If I go to the park and then later in the day put her down for a nap, will I be able to get back in. I know they said the parks closed. But was that people trying to get in for the first time, or for returnees. (Does this make sense).

Was thinking of staying at BCV, or BWl, and returning around 11 p.m. at Epcot just to see the FW's.

Alternate plan 2, is to stay at SSR, and sneak down to viewing platform to see FW. Anyone see PI NYE FW. Are they any good (normal one's are so short). DO they compare to Epcot's?

We did NYE 1999/2000, and while it was very crowded, it was a BLAST (pun intended), and we plan to do that time again next year. We have often gone the first week or two of January, and it is wonderfully empty as far as crowds go. Since NYE will be a Saturday next year, the crowds will likely thin out right away on NYday. When we last did that time, the crowds were fairly light even on NYday, and by the end of the weekend, touring was nearly exclusive! DH said after our early Dec. trip this year, that he wanted to do NYE again, so that is the plan for next year if the rest of the family agrees. We don't mind it if it is cool, because it is always warmer than home! :D
