Diana, You may be interested in checking out Mike's podcast.....Episode 4 talks about speech development and what is considered "normal."

AMY....you ALSO may be interested in checking out Mike's podcast. Episode 9 talks about croup!! :)

Shameless plug. Granted, not uninformative and well worth the time, but still a shameless plug.

 :crazy2: :scared:  :faint: Anything but that song. :crazy2: :scared:  :faint:

To late! :sad2:

It's a world of laughter,
A world of tears.
It's a world of hopes,
And a world of fears.
There's so much that we share,
That it's time we're aware,
It's a small world after all.

Chorus:
It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all.
It's a small, small world.

There is just one moon,
And one golden sun.
And a smile means,
Friendship to every one.
Though the mountains divide,
And the oceans are wide,
It's a small world after all.

Chorus:
It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all.
It's a small, small world. (Repeat ad nauseam until it's permanently etched into your neural synapses.)

Total for class fee and materials was $36. That included a black 8x8 album with a Mickey face outline on the front, 10 plastic insert pages (is that what they are called). Also, they included the brads, ribbon, some cardstock and a book of Disney paper, alphabets and borders, tags and things. I brought my own scissors, trimmer and adhesive. It was alot of fun.

Those were great pages! I have been scrapbooking for over 8 years and have way too much stuff! There is a huge convention in Arlington every year where some friends and I go spend Wed-Sat scrapping. Its great fun to go to workshops and the showroom floor is awesome with all the products. That was a great price for your class. You got a lot of product and a wonderful album out of it. Way to go!

Gail that sounds like the album i picked up to use with the next circle journal. I think that is a great price for not only the album but the other supplies and the class.

I have heard you all mention a circle journal before. What is it?

Did you ever find out what the smell was and why it seems to be on all these costumes? That is strange!

I think rubber is a petroleum product. I bought a set up jumper cables at an auto supply store last week and cannot leave them in my car because they smell like gasoline. I guess they use a cheaper grade of rubber/vinyl/plastic on the costumes so they have a strong petroleum smell.

Well, I figured everyone was giving shameless plugs for various MBA teams, so I didn't think I was out of line here. :lmao:

Amy & Diana told us about them after last years cruise and Amy organized the swap. A circle journal is a small scrapbook that gets passed around to a circle of friends. You start out your own book by doing the intro, sign-in pages, theme instructions and the first spread. Then it goes round robin to everyone else in the group to do a spread in your theme (last year for example a number of us did Magical Memories or a take-off on that theme). When you get it back you have a book filled with great pages and memories done by your friends.

The SSMC05 circle journal exchange will be done at the Saturday DIS meet. I think I can speak for everyone involved in saying we had a great time with it and we look forward to doing one for SSMC06 with even more friends involved.

Yea right, you have a spare moment to rework shirts sometime in the next 10 days, 20 hours, 5 minutes and 30 seconds???

Believe it when I see it.
You would think that I would have all the time in the world as a stay-at-home mom, but it's not the case!!!

I still have some outlining and brads to add to those pages, now I just need to print some pictures to add to the pages.
Gail - those pages are AWESOME!!!

How is it that you all seem to know the names of employees!:confused3 I've cruised three times and don't know one employees name...go figure.
I think that it depends on whether you find a CM that really goes out of their way for you. I know that I will always remember Marco in Palo on the Magic. He was our first experience with Palo and no one will ever compare. Also, last year on SSMC05, I met our Head Server Simone, but on that cruise, he really didn't do anything "special" for us, but I did vaguely remember him.

Well, we cruised again in February over Valentine's day and on the very first day, we ran into Simone at lunch at Beach Blanket. He stopped to talk to us and asked what we will do first. We told him that we were going to head down to see if we could change our dining to early instead of late. He asked for our information and said he would see what he could do for us, so that we didn't have to go wait with the girls. By the time that we made it to our room, he had left a message that he had it changed and what our new rotation was. Then, at dinner every night, he would come over and talk to us and make sure that everything was just right. He even got Chris an order of escargot, when we were at a different restaurant.

Then, I decided to see if he could help us with a contact in dining to get us all on the same dining rotation for SSMC06. He worked with Wira the Dining Room Manager to get us the contact at DCL that Cindy worked with for dining.

And, on the last night, he asked if we would like to move to the later dining the last morning, so we wouldn't have to get the girls up SO early for early breakfast. Of course, we were thrilled with the idea that we might not have to be up for a 6:45am breakfast. Sure enough, by that night, we had a call from Simone that we were going to have breakfast at the late dining.

Since he went out of his way that whole cruise for us, we won't forget him. Now, I ran across a LOT of fantasic CMs on DCL, but I don't necessarily remember their names.

I think $36 is a good deal especially since it included the album. I love that paper and I haven't seen it before.
I think that $36 is a GREAT price. Here it probably would have cost $50.

Diana, I'm really glad to hear your having Julia evaluated. Even if it turns out she doesn't need any services, it's a huge step to be able to make that call. Many, many parents wouldn't even do that -- for fear of finding out their child isn't perfect. All children are perfect, just is many different ways, as I know Julia is too. I've seen it a lot where parents just don't want to face what might be ahead of them. It's great that you are being realistic.
I know what you mean, Cindy!! I know that I'll have to keep my eyes on my girls as they get older because ADD runs in both my family and Chris's family (we think that Chris probably has it, but was never diagnosed). My neice, Kailey, was just tested last week, and she definitely has it. We just know that it's something that might aflict the girls and we would rather know about it, and how to deal with it as they are growing up.

Well, doc-less Diana just called DVC to inquire about my cruise docs. I have to say, in my 4+ years of dealing with DVC, I just spoke to the most USELESS snotball I've ever come across!! :furious:

I tell him I'm booked on the member cruise and haven't received my docs yet, I'm wondering if he could tell me when they were shipped out. He replies--Well, they were just shipping out yesterday, so you won't have them yet. So I told him 40 of my closest friends and shipmates have already received them and could he please look into when mine were shipped out because local people received them last week. You seriously would have thought I asked this guy to donate an organ for me. The attitude was insane. So he huffs and puts me on hold to call DCL. He comes back and tells me they were MAILED and heres the post office tracking number 1Z..... and go to the post office website to see where they are. THANKS A LOT FOR BEING SO HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY !!!!

Fortunately I know they are coming UPS as 1Z is a UPS tracking number. At least he could have given me correct info. :sad2: The docs are due to be delivered here tomorrow. Why are my docs a week late compared to everyone elses? I mean, sure I realize they can't all be mailed the same day, but it's been a pretty long time. :confused3

I'm again disappointed between this and the lack of communication, come on, we're almost a week out, I'm still hoping for the best, but realize it just may not compare to last year.

Getting her checked now, will be much better for her instead of waiting until she's in 3rd grade. FWIW, I did find that my oldest started talking clearly very early on. When I had the next two, they really didn't need to speak early on because Dawn did all the talking for them. ;)
That same type of thing happened to my sister's girls. Kailey, her oldest, was quite the talker as a young toddler. Then, her sister, Danielle, was born 15 months later. Well, as Danni got older, she didn't speak as much because Kailey did it for her. Well, it backfired on poor Danni, because they didn't realize that her hearing was not very good. So, they found out that she had to have tubes in her ears. Then, she had to learn to catch up.

Yup, us too. Mike's family has a bad bad bad history of glaucoma. In fact, I joke with him and say getting together with his extended family is more like a "glaucoma patient's reunion" than a "family reunion." They all talk about what meds they are on, what their pressures are, what surgeries they've had etc etc. Mike is 38 and has already had laser surgery in one eye (made his pressure MUCH worse) and then had the full fledged glaucoma surgery. Acutally, they University of Iowa has studied Mike's family looking for a glaucoma gene. And they are now involved in some other glaucoma study.

We took KT and Nick in for a baseline reading last year and it turned out KT was pretty high (normal is teens, she was in the high 20's, low 30's) Nick was right at the borderline of abnormal. So far we're in a watch and see pattern with follow up appointments.

Poor KT can't stand her family medical history. The girl can't catch a break. Heart disease is rampant on my side. Mike has cancer and glaucoma on his side. Both of our families have mental issues (anxiety, OCD, paranoia) Guess ya can't win, eh?

I think nothing can compare to last year and I'll be happy with just having a good time, not measuring it up to past trips. And besides that, we'll make our own fun times regardless.

Sorry to read you had an adventure. Couldn't you have just called DCL? Might have gotten someone more helpful.

As far as why..I remember running across this before, they process the docs in batches. They certainly don't print and stuff all the evelopes in one day, probably takes them days between batches. And don't take our group as a total example. There's probably more people out there that are non-dis people who havn't gotten theirs than our group in this thread who have mostly gotten theirs. By my loose count off the button sheet, we're talking ~56 cabins in our group, of even those how many are active participants here? There's a much larger unknown segment out there.

Diana, I think I would have asked to speak to a supervisor and explained the little snotball to them. That's just unacceptable ---- even more so as you called Disney and they have such high standards to begin with. :furious: Reminds me of the security guard who rolled her eyes at me when we were staying at VWL. Unacceptable -- period. :furious:

Hopefully you will get your docs today.
