I know there are a few of us out here who are into both Disney and Drum Corps.

Anybody been to any shows this summer? I just got back from Atlanta for the regional. Interisting shows.....

Bluecoats opener is from the Orlando version of Cirque

Magic playing Caos from Illuminations

and then there is the Cadets......LSD induced version of Alice in Wonderland.

Overall a great season IMO.

Mike

Hi Mike... Saw your post on the main page and it caught my eye. I just went to my first ever drum corps competition on Monday. It was fabulous! My son is playing tuba this year in the HS band and I thought he might like it (and I wanted an excuse to be able to go!) Here is a pic I took of Alice. I really loved the Cadets' show! The Cavaliers took 1st at this comp and boy did they deserve it! They were WONDERFUL!

I'm hoping to become more of a drum corps fan here in the future!!!

Another Drum Corps fan here. I don't follow it like I used to. I would love to get my kids to a live show! Then they could see WHY their mom talks about marching the way she does!

I saw a preview a few weeks ago at the movies that some theaters were going to simulcast finals? Anyone know anything about that?

I am a fan here too who has also kind of gotten away from following it. I used to go to Allentown for that show but haven't for a few years. for a while it was not there but it is back up there now. I might not make it for this year but I will definitely next year. I marched in the drumline at my high school and miss attending things like that. Especially since alot of people I knew from drumline in hs are at these things either teaching, teching, or just there to watch.

Have A Magical Day!

Not terribly surprising that the Magic are playing disney-influenced music ... that'd be an interesting show to see ... I'd also like to see what the Bluecoats have done with the cirque music.

Quarter Finals from Madison will be shown at select Regal Cinemas on Thursday August 10th, check this website for info. If you want to go get your tickets in advance, this event sells out a lot! If enough tickets are sold in advance they will open another theater also.

If you want to hear Drum Corps/Disney music try searching for the following...

Cadets 2000 - Entire show from Illuminations
Madison Scouts 2003 - Most of the show from Cirque in Orlando

Thanks for posting the pic of Alice....way cool!

Mike (7 Days till I leave for Madison.....Cheese, Drum Corps, and BEER! Now thats a vacation!)

I am in High School Marching Band, and I play the Alto Sax for marching and bassoon for concert. About the only videos I have seen for Drum Corps are ones the band shows us on occasion; they are simply amazing. For our area, we have the best marching band, but still, we are nothing compared to that. I sometimes wish I played brass so I could do Drum Corps.

Saxsoon, don't rule it out. My husband was in the Scouts. He started percussion about a year before he tried out. His friend tried out for horns and ended up in the color guard. If you you're willing to try and be flexable they have lots of opportunities.

If nothing else just enjoy the shows.

Saxsoon and flexible don't work well together. :rotfl:

Is that a Glassmen Logo in your profile? Hmmmm

Just a friendly reminder.....

Are you kidding? We're having a screening party for this!! lol

I was in drum corps until I aged out gracefully (isn't that what they call it when they drag you from the field kicking and screaming? :rotfl:). No one big, certainly not DCI caliber, but we were good. I was in the color guard, worked my way to captain, and that was back when the rifles were made of wood, not this sissy fiberglass they use now.

One of my younger brother's best friends from drum corps is now the show designer for the Cadets. We usually try to see them in East Rutherford and Allentown, but this year because of health and heat issues we didn't get too, hence, the party tonight!! Two big screen TV's set up with a surround sound system, food, drinks and Drum Corps nuts...should be fun!

Who did you march with? I've been around a long time, I may remember your corps.

Hope they put some of the Scout Alumni corps on tongiht, not thats' Drum Corps!

CinderellaIam,
This sentence cracked me up. I used to march in the 70s to 80s. I was in Cadets (Garfield Cadets back then and Bridgemen). I know what you mean about the rifles. I used to always ask for the heaviest rifle. It helped me build up my stamina, and it didn't give me much trouble in the wind. I'm still pretty proud of the fact that I can still throw a quad with the last rifle I had in Bridgemen, which in fact was the heaviest I ever had.
