Hey, looks like Disney finally updated their Web site to show our current itinerary - shows us going to Mazatlan on Wednesday, 5/25 from 7:30am to 5pm.

Wonder if this means no further port changes?

24 hours without power, a lot of flooding and trees and stuff down. Other than that, we're pretty good...

How did everyone else in Florida do? This is the first time we did'nt lose power! WOOHOO! Mu hubby & I were talking about the cruise this weekend & I started getting really excited! I have been trying not to let myself get to excited because it drives me nuts! I can't help it!!!
Jindy, I talked to you before about my daughter writing yours. Would you mind if she wrote by snail mail? I would really like for her to practice her writing and kids love getting mail anyway! Let me know!
Has anyone read up on the canal? Is there much wildlife? Just curious! Have a good week everyone!

Bob and Lee, went to the DIS photo place and it is down and I guess it has been for quite a while so I will have to find another picture storage place.

Jen and Jeff, glad you are OK, and I hope the other FL folks are as well. I know you folks are getting very very very tired of the storms. Hang in there.

Kim, reference wildlife, I think there will be a whole bunch, and we might even see some animals on the shore... Now for a real answer, I know we have a chance to see some interesting fauna as we transit the canal, I am doing some research (as time allows)and just can not remember specific critters at this time. If you are a birder there are several indigenous species to Curacao. When I get a chance I will get a list together and post.

Kim, that sounds awesome! Adrienne has been waiting to communicate with someone from our cruise, especially since she sees me doing it! Letter writing is a art form that I truly miss; what a great idea!! And this way we can send post cards from Disneyland in November!! I'll PM you with our home address.

There is a very interesting article in the July-August 2004 Audubon magazine. I haven't read the entire article, but it does address not only the wildlife, but how this year the ACP (Panama Canal Authority) is expected to propose a plan to expand the canal with a 3rd set of locks.

On Barro Colorado Island which is 6 square miles of rainforest in the middle of Gatun lake. Scientists estimate the island holds at least 300 butterfly species, tens of thousands of insect species and nearly 50 species of snakes. Along the canal you might also see, three-toed sloths, white-faced capuchin monkeys, black bellied whistling ducks, the harpy eagle(the national bird), howler monkeys, squirrel cuckoos, keel-billed toucan, collared aracari, and white-necked puffbird to name a few. Sound like a super zoom lens on the camera or binoculars are in order.

The Disney.com store just started a 25% off sale on Halloween costumes and for those with boys, they have a cute captain hook (going with the pirate theme here) costume. I did not see anything on the pirate theme for girls, sorry!

I'm glad to hear that all of you in Florida are okay. I'm heading down there next week to hopefully get things started with my new house. The realtor claims that since last month when I was there, the price has gone up $10,000 or so because of the hurricanes? I would think the price would go down. She said something about lumber and oil, who knows, I just hope I can swing it now.

This is my favorite time of year in Connecticut, the leaves are starting to change, and the nights are nice and cool. This however leads to winter, the longest season here that I can't stand!

Robin, Thanks for the info on the Audobon article. Should be some interesting birds to add to the life list. So much to learn about where we are headed.

Cost up $10,000 ouch. We haev decided to wait a couple more years till we make our move to FL.

Ouch is right! Especially since it has only been a month. But in the grand scheme of things, the end result I will save about $20,000 a year on my DD college tuition. I anticipate having to just giving up some of the "extras" I was going to upgrade.

Would love to buy a nicer camera to take, but it makes me nervous. On our first disney cruise last year I took all of my nice cameras, digital and video, but was constantly nervous about loosing it or someone stealing it. I found myself not doing the things I wanted because I did'nt want to leave my bag for a second. On our cruise in May I just took disposable cameras and may not have had as good pictures, but was so much more relaxed! Our friends that went with us ended up leaving his new digital camera on an excursion in the Keys when he went deep sea fishing with my husband. They never got it back! Will probabley do the disposable thing again! Have a great week! It's been a looong one here!

Hardly felt the earthquake here...it was centered in a VERY small town (of 37 people) in central California. Very little damage, and no injuries that I have heard about. All is well here - Jindy, did you feel it? I just thought I had been sitting at my desk too long and got dizzy for a moment . Oh well...
