Not to put a damper on anyone's shopping, you know I would NEVER do that, but be sure to review the fine print with your various forms of payment. I don't know how steadfast the Amex rules are since I haven't their cards outside of the US. I will have to remember which CC to use/not use in other countries after reading the USA Today article.
Now DON'T FREAK OUT - just call your card issuer and tell them where you are going and if there are any fees, problems, restrictions, etc. you should know about.
On credit cards, review this article:
http://www.usatoday.com/travel/news/2005-04-21-card-fees_x.htm
On
Amex gift cards the fine print says this:
*Some restrictions on merchant acceptance will apply to the Gift Card. The Gift Card is not for use at airline , hotel, car rental, telecom, gasoline merchants, or ATMs.
It cannot be used outside of the U.S. Additional restrictions apply. See terms and conditions.
On the
Amex TravelFunds card it says this:
Usage Limitations
