We are on our second as well, both 'Grand' To me worth the extra money, especially if you have kids. For those who don't know and may shop one some day the grand has an extra foot or so in length, it's behind the back seat and it very nice without it there is very little cargo space.
We bought a 2000 one new and two years later we were T-boned by a pick up truck doing 60+(before the skid) My wife and my 2 year old were sitting on that side (me and my 4 year old were on the other) The van did was it was supposed to do! 3 out of 4 of us walked away, shaken, a bump or a bruise here or there but fine. My little one had to have stitches in his head from flying glass...VERY SCARY!!! to see that and not knowing what was wrong. The pictures of the van were nasty, it was totaled of course, 7 out of the 8 windows were shattered by the impact, but again after a trip to the hospital all 4 of us were home within hours. Two days later I went out and bought me another Dodge Grand Caravan. Seeing what I paid for the new one vs what I got(was going to get) for it 2 years later I ended up buying a used one and adding a warranty, but in the end I never needed it.
Van 1 made it to Disney one time and van 2 had made the trek twice plus one trip to Gulf Shores all with 2 little boys in the car. Four for four on GREAT TRIPS (knock on wood) For trips we always pull out the captians chairs and put the carseats in the back row. This allows space to pack extra stuff and for the 9" tv/vcr (not a fan of tv in the car, but when it comes to 14 hour drives I can break that rule). It also gives us room to climb back there while we are on the road if we need to. And (although I am a seat belt and car seat freak) on occasion it has given us somewhere to lay down a sleeping kid on the way back to the all stars after a long day at EPCOT.
