2005 AP discounts

I just purchased my AP yesterday. I will receive the voucher in 2 weeks. Do they still give you the $25 off when you purchase the DDE or do you have to have the actual AP to get the discount? I gotta tell you, you guys really know every possible way to get a discount.

According to the web site;

"Receive a 25% discount on "Day-Of" admission price for the following special ticket events at the Magic Kingdom Park:

Night of Joy
Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Discount is only available on selected nights, based on a limited availability, and does not apply to "Advance Sales" admission price for these special ticket events. The Passholder may purchase up to a total of four discount tickets."

Right BUT you can take that two ways, which way is the one I am trying to figure out.

Either A-
If you are in WDW on October 2 and there is a MNSSHP going that night you can get tickets for that night for 25% off. Meaning the discount only applies if you are going the same day you purchase the ticket

OR

B - While the dates are released May/June-ish time, the regular price is 34 and advanced is 30 (for example), meaning you can by tickets for the October 2 party in May but your discount applies to the 34$ price.

So basically with one scenario you have to risk waiting for the night of the party and the chance of it being sold if you want to save 25%. Or you can get them ahead of time, save the peace of mind but get the 25% discount of the non-advance purchase price.

See what I mean?

Yes, you can order the DDE, they are estimating 4 to 6 weeks for delivery because of the backlog, the cards are printed off-site. I am working on the assumption that you'll have to show your valid, activated AP when you use the card in the restaurant.

cobbler, you're right, it can be interpreted both ways. Best thing to do would be wait until the schedules are announced, then call the AP phone number and as, if they say the discount is for "same day" only then you can choose to either purchase the ticket at non-discounted price or wait and hope for availability.

It also says;

"For special ticket event dates and prices visit disneyworld.com/passholder beginning June 5, 2005."

I would assume it is (B) since none of the events take place in June.

Well I called and talked to a cast member and she said it would be scenario A. That the discount is 25% off when you purchase the ticket the day of the event. She said that you can find out in June when the dates are for planning but you can't get the discount unless you buy the ticket that same night or day you are going.

That is kind of a downer.

She even put me on hold to go ask someone to find out.

So I guess I will take it as that unless in June-ish time when tickets come out we are able to do otherwise.

Does this include character meals? Also, can only 1 person in the party have the dining experience added to their pass to include the whole family?

The DDE does apply to all the character meals I could think of (Crystal Palace, CRT, Garden Grill, LTT, etc). It is good for 10 people. There is a thread on the Disney Restaurant board that lists all the restaurants.

Can you use the DDE card at all counter service restaurants and/or to get drinks/snacks only---for instance beer/cocktails at EPCOT? If so, I'm ordering!! Is the number to get it listed on an earlier thread?

DDE is not accepted at most counter service. See this link for restaurants that accept it.

Sooo, trying to keep this all in my mind w/o having to carry around a list -

Basically all the sit down restaurants in the theme parks honor DDE, no counter services EXCEPT for AK.

As for drinks, Epcot's Pub and MGM's Tune-In.

I had no problem ordering my DDE without having received my AP voucher yet. There are a few value and moderate counter service places that take the DDE, but AK is the only park with DDE counterservice (I suppose because it doesn't have a sitdown). And, yes, you can get the discount on cocktails. My question is can you get the discount if you JUST order a cocktail? My husband often gets a beer in World Showcase. If he orders on at the Crown & Rose can he get it "to go?"

Rose and Crown have a cart outside beside the entrance. You can get beer to go and even a 1/2 yd of ale!

How could I get one if we went over to the SOG (shades of green-military) and bought our APs the day we arrived? Could I buy the DDE w/ the $25 off that day too and just have them fax the voucher to the resort? We can not buy APs with military discount anywhere but at the SOG.
