Mary,
I'll comiserate with you on the in-law situation. So far Mike's dad and step mom have promised to be at nearly every performance Nick has done and something has always "come up." Today they call and they won't make it...something came up. I was a bit rude and said "ok, fine, can't talk, we're walking out the door right now." (we still had 10 minutes)
Mike ends up calling her back and chewing her out...saying that this is their GRANDSON and they only have TWO more days left to see him (public performance days) and that this isn't some little 2nd grade play, it's a HUGE production and that Nick will be disappointed if they don't make it, and if they are mad at us for some reason DO NOT take it out on NICK.

On the way home from the performances he was telling me how much this was like his childhood....his dad always saying he'd be there at a certain time or on a certain day and then making him wait and wait and wait and wait. And he is SICK OF IT and if they don't make it to a performance than as far as he's concerned he's DONE with them (btw, these are the same grandparents who didn't meet Nick until he was 10 months old---and we lived 40 minutes away! we kept inviting them over, they kept cancelling)

so...if they don't show up, between the step mom and the daughters we have $200 worth of Easton Gift certificates to use and also a $50 Best Buy card!!! woo-hoo....family problems, let's go SHOPPING!!!

SOOOOO glad we're spending the holidays with "NORMAL" people this year!!!

Try telling that to your daughter.

I love it when there is a problem and suddenly the kid becomes "your" daughter" or "your son." ;)

Sad story, but I like your upside to it.

I try to remain positive. I'm positive I'm sailing with "normal" people instead of spending Christmas Eve eating warm potato salad and drawing a number for my mystery gift in the numbered brown paper bag!

Ok so I'm sitting here DISing, having a good time, eating chocolate (ok that was bad) when I bite something hard. Oh great - it is an old filling that has fallen out. Hopefully I can get in to my dentist soon (already left a message on his voice mail). What fun. Not!

Karen - you know that if it was closer to each of us we'd come to see him perform. And we do hope you bring a tape on the cruise.
