Can you pick only the pics you want to print from that disk? I'd assume that you don't put the disk in and HAVE to print every picture on it.

Yes, that's correct. You can tell the HP printer which ones you want, how many of each, and the size you want.

Have you ever broken it out to price per print versus film printing? We haven't printed anything yet from our digital --- we're like the commercial "Where's the pictures?", but I eventually want to get a good printer.

No, I've thought about it but haven't done it. But what I have found is that I only print out my best pictures for scrapbooking and in the sizes I want so I don't have as many prints lying around waiting to be put somewhere!

Also, since I take so many more pictures (100's more), I scan through them on my computer, deleting the ones that don't turn out. When I am done with them, I make two back up CD's. One I put in our fire proof safe and the other I keep in my office. I should probably store one copy somewhere else (away from my house), but I am not that organized....................yet!

Linda - that's what we do. Mark will burn 3 CD's. One for him. One for me (for scrapbooking) and then one in the fireproof safe.

Also I do a lot of montages for my scrapbook pages. Where I do the backgrounds and pictures all on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. Then add embelishments as needed.

Scrapbooking is a lot of fun...I do it all the time...(im 13, going on 14 on the cruise!)

i started out after i read some magazines......those give you good ideas....especiall the MEMORY MAKERS one....my mom(realtorlady) and me subsribe to most of the scrapbook magazines out there....trust me, once you get started, YOU CANT STOP!!! lol its true! i'm very picky about my pictures too, and also about the page layout...some people tell me that my pages are better than some adult's pages and im only 13! ....i havent did any disney trips b/c when we got our film devolped(all 6-8 rolls, i think) none of them turned out! NONE! this was really bad for us since we are big scrapbookers and had no pictures...but luckily we had the digital camera, but that didnt have nearly as many as our regular film camera had...

Ah ha! We've found our teen expert!

My books are all 12 x 12. I use all the Creative Memories albums. Well, except for the Mickey Mouse album from Creative Memories. It's a 7 x 7 and I think Jamie is planning on using one of them this cruise. I think she is going to get autographs on one side of the page and then she will add some journalling to that side and then on the other side we will put the pictures she had taken with that character. I also thought of using it like a journal of each day, or I also thought of using it as a coffee table "photo book" with pictures of all our new Dis friends from the boards. I figured it would be a great conversation piece after the cruise!

I've read that the little Epson works well (PC Magazine recently said that the Epson was the best of the small printers) and the pictures end up costing about 29 cents each. I've seen sales at Office Depot and Office Max for these printers. They cost $199, but you get two gift cards - one for $40 and one for $50. You might want to look at those sale adds.

I also have been looking at the little printers, but I haven't made the purchase yet.

Ken

Thanks Ken! That is exactly the one I've been looking at and think I have convinced myself to buy! We have both Office Depot and Office Max so I'll check it out since they are giving gift cards. It was running $149 at Costco when I checked it out a couple of weeks ago.

I'vd done both 8 1/2 x 11 and 12 x 12. For the 12 x 12 I usually still use an 8 1/2 x 11 photo sheet and then add the embellishments along the tops and sides. I'll see what we can get scanned tonight and maybe it will be clearer.

Our Costco doesn't have the Epson - just the HP (that PC Magazine didn't like at all).

Yep, I know alot of people that do that also. Can't wait to see some of your pages!

Ken-by the way, what model number of Epson was your magazine reviewing?

Jeri, I can knit and crochet too. If you want, I can teach the two of you on the cruise. I don't do scrapbooking. Too many little pieces for me! And confession time. I'm another one with pictures in shoe boxes. My digital ones are pretty well mixed up too. Maybe someday we'll get a laptop, and I'll sort photos when I'm sitting in a boring meeting? Everyone will think I'm working hard!

Anyway, I agree that learning yarn type crafts is really hard if you don't see the person doing it. My aunt taught me to crochet, and my grandma tried teaching me to knit. I eventually figured it out on my own, but it took a lot of time.

You truely are amazing, what a talented lady. We look forward to our lessons.
Cheers :Pinkbounc

It is the Epson PictureMate (no model number listed). The PC Magazine test was in the November 16th issue. The actual printer is smaller then it looks in the picture. It take a special ink cart that comes with 100 pieces of 4x6 paper. The ink and paper was something like $29.95 at Office Depot when I was looking at it.

Here is what PC Mag had to say about it:

This ink jet printer competes head-to-head with thermal-dye photo printers. Unlike the Canon unit, the PictureMate lets you print from just about anything, including memory cards, USB keys, and PictBridge cameras. The built-in menus are helpful, but there's no color LCD to preview images; instead, you must print an index sheet, with 20 images per sheet (unless you are printing directly from a camera). Each print took about 2:15 minutes to print. Prints are a match for conventional film based photos, and they're water-proof and smear-proof. Even better, they cost only 29 cents each.

You could bring the printer along with you on the cruise and be competition for Shutters.

Have fun
Ken
