A few years ago, we went to a friends for thanksgiving. The turkey looked like it belonged in a magazine, as did the rest of the meal. I was quite impressed, because she wasn't much of a cook... And her kitchen was spotless - usually when we have a turkey dinner, there are pots and pans everywhere since there's so much last minute stuff to do - Turns out, that you could order your turkey dinner from a hotel restaurant and just pick it up - put it in your own dishes, and voila - no mess, no fuss, great meal!

Yeah, but does it tastes like "Mom" used to make????

We haven't told the kids yet.

I did that last year. Lisa in particular was very surprised. We told her that morning. A giant Minnie Mouse was under the Christmas Tree with Navigators, Soda Mugs, etd and a sign that said - Come visit me on the Magic.

I continued the surprise theme by giving them a small gift or card each evening. It might say "Tomorrow you are going on a submarine ride with Mom" or an arcade card was enclosed. The kids loved it. We are dong a variation on that again this year, although everyone is helping plan the daily gifts (each small). We all have been shopping for items that were small and bargains throughout the year.

I think Mary is absolutely correct on thawing the turkey. Put it in the refrig and than water bath it. Don't give it a bubble bath, the bubbles are really hard to get out.

It's really embarrassing when your turkey starts to "off gas"!

I'm definitely a list person when it comes to packing. I've checked off everything that has been packed so far.

Called my doctor today regarding my shoulder pain. He is out of the office today and there were no openings with anyone else in the practice. Went to urgent care--they said it was my muscle and gave me an antiflamatory pill, and said to put ice on it. I sure hope that helps. I barely slept last night again from the pain.

Here's our family story: (get out the tissues!)

Christmas 2004-no one would tell me what they wanted for Christmas.

DH says "I've never had Christmas since my divorce (about 18 yrs. ago), the ex-w always had Christmas. He says "he would really like Christmas with his kids one year. Now, that they are all married, they spend one year at mom's and one year at in-laws (we fit in somewhere after or before). Daughters are 30 and 29, son is now 25.

So, since no one would tell me what they wanted, the idea just came to my mind (it must have been pixie dust). Hm, for tens of thousands of dollars I could get them to spend Christmas with us and our DD Jamie (12).

Called DCL on December 18 and booked four staterooms for four families (13 of us) and paid deposits in cash, thinking, if DCL doesn't sell out by Jan. 20, I can rebook at least our room to DVC points and save some money and be able to afford a couple of excursions!!!!

So, off I go, planning this "little" fun INEXPENSIVE (yeah, right) trip without telling a soul.

TO BE CONTINUED.........................

I'm making a small turkey for just the five of us this year. We're being anti-social this year. We're tired of traveling every year for thanksgiving. Luckily nobody was upset when I told them that we were staying home.

THE CHRISTMAS GIFT 2004 CONTINUED PART II.......................

So.......................

I take the itinerary (Thanks Mary!!!!) and put each family's name on the top of it with the stateroom and the schedule and put into a big envelope.

Then I take each day, starting with the 17 Dec. and tell them what we are doing. Make die cut letters for each day....i.e.
17 (Picture of airplane) (for the day we fly out of town)
18 Port Canaveral
19 Key West

so on and so on.....................

for the 25 I had a picture of a Christmas Tree and our port.

I put each date and the letters (all scrambled up) into separate envelopes and then had that butcher paper in different colors cut in four inch strips about 36" long and glue sticks.

I proudly announced after we exchanged gifts, that since no one had given me a Christmas list, that I had gone and decided on my own what everyone was getting and gave each person an envelope, a glue stick and a piece of paper and told them that was their gift................................................

The secrets are out !!!

Here is what I was just told

Here is the schedule for our Cruise!

12/20 and 12/21 - Two themed nights to be announced
12/22 Pirate Night
12/25 Formal Night
12/26 Cap't Gala - Semi Formal

- David

Thanks David. Where'd you get the info?

And honestly, I don't like that schedule. Back to back dressy nights aren't my preference. I'd rather space them out. Hmmmm. Well, at least they've finally announced the schedule.

Thanks David. Its good to know when they are. Personally I think two in a row is a bit much but never mind. Perhaps they thought we'd all dress up anyway on 25th and 26th.

We will be in Palo for the 20th theme night - anyone think this makes any difference?

I have ordered my magnetic paper - now I need to start on my design. I would like a graphic of the Magic and/or the Disney Cruise logo - anyone point me in the right direction.

Can you just slide a jpg off the web site? What are you all doing about lanyards? Do any of you have the disney pin lanyards? They look like they would stick you...

PM me and I can send you the link tonight from my house

I have a site that has the cruise logo as well as many other clip arts

Linda,

its not what you you , just who u know!! LOL

That was there point exactly about Christmas nite, many would be dressing anyway

Formal night is on a port day, that's different. But it's nice that it's Christmas Day. It will be a scramble in our cabin after scuba diving and shopping that day. Not for DH. He will just have to open the wine and then get out of the way. Hope there's no "must see" show that night!
