Good Morning everyone!

My concern on packing to early is that you tend to forget what you packed. Even if you have a list, there might be a "brain freeze" moment and then you start to second guess yourself.

I'll think about setting things out the next couple of weekends, checking the list (at least once, if not twice).

EXACTLY! I have had our toiletries packed for a while, and my jewelry, cameras, etc. Even with a list...I have gone back and double-triple-checked too many times to count. This is insanity!!

Do you mean you can get cash on your debit card? Mine is from a UK bank but I use it at the cash machines in Florida with no problem.

Angela

I think it would have to say "Visa" or whatever on it somewhere. My debit card is from my checking account, but it can be used anywhere in the world as a credit card, because it says "Visa" on it. So, if yours does...then you can use that.
BUT....my debit card (as do most) has a daily limit of $320.00 for withdrawal, to safeguard me from having it stolen.
Of course, the limit is for ATM machines. If you use it to withdraw at Guest Services, you may be able to take more money out of it that way.
Did I confuse you more???

Annie, that was what I had in mind. But right now, all we have coming is an uncooked turkey. This won't do, guess I will have to start being proactive here.

I think I solved my turkey problem.
I put him in cold water last night, while he was still frozen solid. Now he is in the fridge for the rest of his defrosting. I figured that way, I wouldn't have to worry about the water staying cold enough.
Sort of a "backwards" route.
What else would you expect from me???

My busy days for Thanksgiving are now beginning. Our guest list is now up to 45. I will finish cleaning today and bake 4 pumpkin and 2 pecan pies. Have a niece that is bringing the apple pies. Tomorrow I will roast the first turkey and then make a second on Thursday. 8 of the guests will be arriving tonight, so they will be at our house tomorrow and help us move the furniture out of the living room so we can set up tables. Most of the guests are from out of town (Washington, Arizona, Idaho) so they stay several days. All will be gone by Sunday. Lots of work and lots of food, but also LOTS of fun.

:earseek: WOW! FORTY FIVE???

I thought fourteen was bad.

No more whining from me! (Well, for today anyway)

Guess I should go to work, huh?

It's very foggy outside, and cold. I can't even see the mountains from here. I guess it is finally winter.

See ya later!

We've done the turkey in a Nesco roaster the last few years, a great deal more tender and moist turkey to oven cooking and very easy cleanup too. :)

What's a Nesco roaster --- we have the Nesco Jet Air Oven thing, it is the greatest --- we use it about every day!!!!

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone!!!

Dee - the picture of your son is too cute. I think I might have to keep my 8yo DD away from him, he is going to break hearts some day.

Yeah, we should let them play now before he realizes what a handsome dude he is...He still thinks girls are for playing soccer with...:teeth: :hyper:

WOW:eek: 45 that's impressive --- good luck with all your baking!!

We're taking the easy way out --- going to Moms --- I am making 2 pumpkin pies, corn souffle, potatoes and a jello salad creation, but I don't have to worry about anyone coming to my house!

I made my first turkey last Christmas --- guess I'm all grown-up now --- but I'm not admitting it!!!! It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and it turned out really good!!! Won't have to worry about it this year!!!:)

Thanks everyone for making this mommy happy this morning! It's fun to start the day with a smile on my face! I'm glad you don't mind my sharing the picture.

Land & Sea Guy - forgot to welcome you to this crazy group. I sent you a pm with some info in it.

Welcome aboard :D

HAPPY TUESDAY MORNING EVERYONE!!!!
Mom and Dad got here at 1:30 a.m. this morning. Needless to say, I didn't get very much sleep last night since everytime I heard a noise I woke up thinking it was them.

And I have such a wonderful watch dog "Sebastian" the Golden Retriever. When they did get there, he didn't even move a muscle, what a watch dog.................yeah, right!

Linda

Okay, trying to add to the post count!

Welcome to all the new families!!!!

Got the house cleaned last night (even without Merry Maids!)
Thanks Ohiominnie for the offer to help!!

Stacey-you can come up here for Tday if you ruin your turkey, but definitely not as exciting as Leilani's invitation to Vegas. I know where I stand!!!!

Gosh, thanks, "I've never made a turkey".......

I think I'll wait and see what the Scuba family tells me. :teeth:

Sorry, but your are out of luck with the Scuba Family. The Scuba Chef (Jim) has left for Costa Rica with DS. He might know, but I have never made a turkey. Either Jim's Mom or my Mom made one in the past. More recently, we have been going to Michigan for Thanksgiving and my sister cooks. This year Lisa and I are gong to a friend of hers home for Thanksgiving and her Mom is cooking. I will be bringing items I can't mess up - Shrimp Cocktail, Cheese & Crackers, etc.

Yes that sounds like mine. It will be a good backup in case we overspend. I think I will take a mixture of travellers checks and cash.

The Rainforest room sounds great. I'm trying to convince my mom to try it too, but she doesn't like anyting "hot."....no hot tubs, no saunas, nothing. I don't really want to go alone...maybe enough DIS'ers will do it that I can meet up with them there!

We will be there. Jim loves the rainforest - especially the heated loungers. It's a great place to relax, sip tea and read a book.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK so nothing to do but write a packing list and start worrying about what to take on the cruise.

One of the reasons we started going away for Xmas was to escape the 'are you coming to us this year?' problem with our families. It must be tough having Thanksgiving so close before Xmas. It is a lot to organise.
Do you give gifts for Thanksgiving?
