Sunday, March 28, 2004 – R&R

I don’t remember too many specifics but most of our R&R days start with us getting up at our leisure and having coffee and cereal/toast. Around 9:00 or so one of us would go over and put beach towels on a couple of chairs. We always tried to be located at the deep end on the North side so that we were away from the kiddy section and faced the sun. Because we were going to be there for 2 weeks, we decided to pace ourselves so we didn’t get too much sun.

After pool time, we would head back and take a shower, eat lunch and then read until both of us were ready for an activity.

We did finally figure out the fridge … it doesn’t have a blower on it!!! I also found out a lot of other information while reading all the manuals through. I really, really love this fridge!!!!

We had lunch at the camper and then walked to Wilderness Lodge by way of the path (we stopped at Pioneer Hall to get a map). That was a lot of fun and we saw the area in a more natural state. It was getting pretty warm. Once we got to Wilderness Lodge we wanted to find a place to sit so that DH could watch some NCAA games. The people in the Artist Point lounge were nice enough to turn on the TV (some other guy was in there), but said we would have to buy our drinks from the pool bar as they were closed until later.

I waited in line and ended up getting a Corona Beer ($4) and a mixed tropical drink (Mt. Rainier $7.75) – w/ tax and tip the total was $13. I sat with DH until my drink was gone and then decided to leave him to watch the game while I went to the gift shop to get postcards. They had beer there for $2 !!!

From there we took the ferry to the Contemporary Hotel to check things out. In order to catch some more NCAA (and golf) we found the “Outer Rim Lounge” and I ordered ice water and cheese fries. It was kind of fun watching the people because guys kept sneaking away from their families to catch a little of the game and then the families would come and haul them away.

After a while we got on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and then the ferry to Ft. Wilderness. We walked back to our site and made hot dogs on our George Foreman grill. This worked really well and we decided that we were glad we had brought it along.

We decided to drive (see, we learned our lesson) to the Boardwalk to see what was going on. We walked around the lake to the bridge that took us to the International entrance of Epcot trying to see some of the fireworks from Illuminations between the tree branches. We then grabbed a ride on the boat back to Boardwalk and drove “home.” We’re in bed about 10:00.

This week was just before daylight savings time kicked in and by 10:00 things are really dark … when darkness falls when you are camping, it’s like you suddenly get tired!

Monday, March 29, 2004 – ANOTHER R&R DAY

We went through our usual morning routine, only today we were able to get a USA Today newspaper. I also bought some post cards and proceeded to send them to DS and my parents.

I took time to call our RV dealer to ask if we were doing the refrigerator right (yes) and to find out how you operated the furnace. After that we were able to have the thermostat set for the cold nights.

We spent time at the pool, ate lunch and then DH went to Osprey Ridge golf course to putt/chip. He came back and made a tee time reservation for Wednesday at 3:05 pm.

Part of the fun of camping is watching all the other people. There was one group who were local (Florida plates) that were parking both vehicles on the site. I’m not sure, but I think maybe the wife worked during the day and then showed up at night. You sign a form saying only one vehicle per site so this was in violation and there was no way that you wouldn’t know it. Then one night, they had a fire in their charcoal grill. The flames were several feet in the air (kind of under the trees) and they were all sitting around in their chairs like they were at a campfire. Not only in violation of the rules but dangerous as well since Florida was having a dry spell!!!! Fortunately, they were to leave soon so we didn’t have to see them flaunting the rules.

Next up we walked down to Pioneer Hall because we wanted to try out the Trails End Buffet. This was a first for us but thought we’d try it out because everyone on the Disboards just raves about it. The food was excellent and we just ate and ate. DH ate too much fried chicken and BBQ ribs because by the time we were done he thought he was going to throw up!! We walked back to our site and he kept stopping because he thought he was going to lose it! After a 1 hr nap he seemed to be fine.

Tonight we drove down to Downtown Disney to look around. I ended up buying Mickey/Minnie salt-n-pepper shakers.

We had been trying to reach DD at home and finally got in touch with her. She said she went to Target at 9:30 pm! What’s with that!

DH has been keeping pretty close tabs on the kids and has been calling once or twice each day. He has not been happy that DD has not stayed closer to home and was ready to ground her when she arrived in Florida. Well, this wouldn’t be practical so I reminded him that she’ll be along within a day or two and then we can keep our eyes on her all the time!

thanks so much for your great report.......I like this R&R days....sounds like my kind of trip too.......I would like to try the buffet at Trails end someday too......thanks so much again
