My friend is thinking of going on a Disney Cruise with her family.

Included in her family is her 20 yr old single son. Is there anything for a single 20 yr old to do? Can he go to the nightclubs even though he wouldn't be able to drink.

Can someone who has taken a 20 yr old on the cruise say if they met anyone else their age? Male or female. Are there any activities geared toward young adults who are not teenagers.

Thanks in Advance

Joanna

i am taking a 18 year old girl and 20 year old boy with me next month and though they cant drink on the ship drinking is legal is the bahamas at 18 and so is gambling if they go to atlantis, i dont expect them to drink but they want to try gambling about 20 bucks apiece at atlantis, also on ship the first night i believe they have a mix and mingle for 18 and over at about 10 pm in one of the lounges, my daughter loves to dance and if she saw someone sitting there she would ask them to dance, they also want to try dolphin encounter, and they always meet people that they are sitting with at dinner, 2 years ago when my daugher was 16 i didnt dsee her the whole trip and she had a ball, i saw her at supper and at bedtime also the people she met on the cruise would call our room early in am and they would be off again, she still keeps in touch with these people on line , and have made life long friendships, so tell heim not to worry theres so much to do he wont be bored long.

I haven't been on the Disney cruise yet, so I don't know what their particular rules are. However, don't assume that because he isn't 21, he won't be allowed to drink. I have been on other cruiselines where once you leave U.S. waters, the drinking age is 18. And I do believe the nightclubs are for those 18 and older. I would have your friend call Disney to get more information.

No the drinking age on DCL is 21. But that isn't an issue for him at all. I just looked at the navigator and it seems to say that the adult clubs are 18 and over.

From past experiences has anyone taken a young adult this age and have they enjoyed themselves. Also any activities geared to young adults?

I asked these same questions for our cruise. What I found out was that the drinking age on board was 21, but 18 and older could go to Palo's, all the lounges and adult shows, and adult classes and stuff.

We will have our 19 and 21 year olds along with our three youngest kids. They are looking forward to several excursions and hitting the islands on port days. And, of course, Carlos and Charlies! LOL

They are even looking forward to just hanging by the adult pool, shooting some hoops on the sports deck and playing some ping pong. Trust me...there is something for everyone on a Disney Cruise!

If you want to get an idea of what there is to do on the ship you can visit Barb's website. She has the navigators for the four, three and seven day cruises. It'll give him an idea of what he could do based on his prefrences.

At the time of our last cruise I was 21 and my brother was 19, I must say that there was a lot of stuff to do, but not a lot of people our age. My brother and I could both do all the same things (palo, night clubs, etc.) He'd just have to watch me have all the drinks!! I'm not sure if I just wasn't looking in the right place or maybe it was the time of the year, but the young twenty-ish crowd was not on our ship. My brother met one guy his age. I'd still say -- go! Even though I didn't meet anyone my own age I still had A LOT of fun.

DCL adult clubs are 18 but drinking age is definitely 21. They do check your KTTW cards at times. All staff have to do is look at the card, there is a code on them that signifies if they are over 21 or under.

Rest assured, my 18 year old daughter met a few other guys around 20 and they had plenty to do. Go for it. If for no other reason than to experience the cruise and visit some really great ports. Travel is knowledge!!!

We were just on the 4 day cruise on 6/16 and last year did the 3 day around the same time. In 2001 my sons were 17 and 18 and the 18 year old could still go into Common Grounds with his brother. There was also alot of other teenagers on that trip and they had alot to do and played alot of basketball and volleyball with kids there own age. So they were anxious to go back this year. However, this trip being 18 and 19, Common Grounds was off limit to them so couldn't enjoy any of the activities there. Also, there was only a handful of other teens their age on this cruise. They were to old (and to tall 6'2" and 6'3") to play basketball with most of the other younger teens and the adults weren't playing any of the sport activites. This left the nightlife in the clubs for them and some of the family activities in Sea Studio. Or heaven forbid spend more time with your parents. They are allowed to be in the clubs and the KTTW card does have N/A on them so they aren't allowed alcohol. There was a single mingle at 10:15pm the first night, but again no one really their age. Plus the movies were not real interesting on this cruise for that group (again more geared for small children, not even adult related). So my children actually said they were bored at times.
There was a thread about this age group before, and others had said that the 18-20 year old are the lost group on the cruise. I would not have thought that after my first cruise, but now feel that way after this most recent cruise. This group is a small percentage of the passengers, so I doubt if anything much would change in the future for this group. The more of them on the cruise seems to make for a better time as they will entertain themselves. Sorry to be so long. Go and enjoy. Even with this experience we are looking at doing a 7 day next year.

Thanks for all your responses. I will be seeing them this weekend and next weekend and will tell him about all your responses.

If someone else would like to add to this post that would be helpful.
