20 month girl Christmas ideas.....

I am at a loss, title says it all. I do not want to rush out and buy a bunch of things that are junky!!

My mum runs a preschool and she says these are ones that are really popular at her centre and have good play value.

My girls at that age loved the Fisher Price Snap and Style Dolls.

For DD11's 2nd Christmas, she got a Baby Chou Chou which talked & cried, a Little People doll house, a big teddy bear, and a battery operated ride-on pink motorcycle which was only $40 from JCPenney. For her 2nd birthday she got a kitchen set. She got a ball pit for her first birthday.

The only idea I really have is a slide. I was hoping to find one at a yard sale this summer but I haven't. I may just have to bite the bullet and pay retail

At that age my kids enjoyed the boxes more than the gifts. One year we bought a new stove and our son played with that box for days! I almost fell over when I discovered that they sell cardboard "houses" that the kids can color/decorate themselves. What a concept.

The best toy I ever bought my kids at that age was the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe. They LOVED that thing and played in it until they were literally too big to stuff themselves in it.

My 3rd DD will be 2 this Wednesday and the things on her wish list are:

Tag Jr + books
Finding Nemo nesting bath toys at Target
Dora Doodle Pro (looooves her small one, a bigger one can only be better right?)
Ride N Drive Shopping Cart from Costco
Little People Wonder Woman and Invisible Jet
Little People Disney Princess Castle


She currently loves (and has been playing with these things since 12-18 months) nesting/stacking blocks, My Sweet Kitchen from Fisher Price (from 2004, hard to find now but maybe the newer Fisher Price Laugh N Learn Kitchen would work?), nesting/stacking cups, and reading books.

Good simple musical instuments (I loved kindermusik ones)

art supplies (paper, paint, fingerpaints, crayons)
dress up (get simple and solid

My kids loved the plastic (little tykes?) rollercoaster thing that you ride on.

I know it's tempting to buy all those toys in commercials. However, the day that DH looked on our front porch, and saw all of last years toys waiting to be picked up by goodwill, so we would have room for new toys, made me evaluate my buying based on how long they will play with things. I've found the tried and true toys really do get played with most.

A grand nephew just turned 2. He got a wooden puzzle that when you took pieces out or put them in it made sounds. His was a vehicle puzzle, but I've seen them with animals and other things before. That puzzle was a real hit. I highly recommend one.
