Hi,

It's been a long time since i have booked an ADR, but I booked one today at the CA Grill. I don't remember this in the past but now they take your credit card number and process it for $20 to make sure it is good but do not bill it unless you are a no show for your reservation.

I guess this keeps people from booking several reservations and not going which is nice.

Just wanted to let everyone know.

Steve

This is good to know since we usually eat there 1-2 times per trip. I booked for December last month and they didn't do this yet, but I guess it is a new procedure. Thanks for the heads up. ;)

That's interesting because I just made an ADR for California Grill on Wednesday and although they took my CC to hold the reservation (common practice here) there was no mention of any processing dollar amount or anything else along those lines.

That's been our experience and we book the CG three or four times/year. I think the cc# has been around for 3 or 4 years now but CG is one of the few restaurants for which it's necessary (other than on major holidays).

I wonder if the CM just added that bit about processing it?

I think they have been doing this for a couple of years now - it is definitely to prevent against no-shows. You can cancel up to 24 hours before your reservation time without penalty. Thanks for sharing that/reminding everyone! It is definitely something people will want to be aware of when calling for an ADR.

I had to put a credit card hold for California Grill too, but I believe they only said $10 if you are a no show. Hmmm....

Most other ADR's did not require a credit card hold.

I just looked at my credit card statement and when I made our ADR on June 10th, we didn't get charged a holding fee. It makes sense, but I wonder why they charged some and not others.

I don't think anyone has reported actually being charged at booking. The OP just stated he was told that it would happen.

My understanding before is that the charge would be put through if you were a no show, maybe that is still the case and the CM the OP encountered just didn't word it right?

For all you CG fans out there, can you tell me your thoughts on children in the restaurant? I made an ADR for the earliest seating possible for an upcoming trip for our family, which includes 3 kids, ages 1, 5 & 7. They are well-behaved in restaurants, but now I'm second-guessing myself, just never having been there and unsure of it's "kid-friendliness-factor". Part of me wants to go so bad, for the food and the view. Also DH used to work at CG in NY in his former life (waiter during college years) Another part of me is scared of getting scowls from other diners that may not appreciate children in their signature dining establishment. Anyway, I'm rambling, but any advice from CG vets appreciated! :confused3

As a Mother of 5 well behaved boys back in the day. I say go and have a wonderful time. I use to get so many looks (not good ones)when I would first walk in anywhere then by the time I would leave people would come up to us saying wow how good the boys were. So again I say go & have a good time and don't worry what other people think! Akunamata

I booked mine for saturday november 8th 2008. They did take my credit card number, but no amount was charged to my card at all. This was just to guarantee it, and if our party of two did not show up then I would be charged $20.00 per person. But nothing was charged ahead of time.

I don't see an issue with bringing small children to CG. Yes, it is a nicer place to dine, but as long as your kids aren't screaming or running around the restaurant itself, I don't see an issue. Go and enjoy yourself.

Agree. We see plenty of kids that age each and every time we've been to California Grill.

I appreciate the encouragement guys, thanks! One more question, if I may, regarding the view....I figured as one of the first tables to be seated, we would most likely have a request for a window table honored. Is the MK view actually entertaining, or is it kind of just a distant blur? I'm wondering if the view alone would be interesting to my kids, since I'm sure the menu will excite DH and I much more than them! :rolleyes1

The MK is nice if your there for when the MK has Wishes going...otherwise, for our family, the MK view while eating wouldn't matter much. Still...the park is nice to see.

I woudln't bet on this. Everyone who dines there has the same request.

Granted, the las time I went it was during fireworks, but those who were at the window were clearly celebrating something major...

AS otehrs have said though early on it isn't sucha big deal to get a view. A bit nice, but not essential. Also, there are only a few tables that are really up against the MK view window.
