I know we as AP holders get 20% at certain food locations. How does discount work? When using magicbands does the discount come off automatically or do you have to tell them?

You have to show your AP and ID. Then the check is calculated with the discount. Then you pay with whatever method from there.

You must bring your AP Card and/or your DVC Blue Membership Card to get a discount.

the 20% is only until the end of Sept 2017, then it drops back to 10% or goes away on several location. Be sure to ask for the discounts, AP, DVC... and that the best deal. You can not combine discounts.

You will need to 'register' at Guest Service, show your blue member card and photo ID for all adults. Then you will get your AP activated and they will give you an AP card, same plastic card size as the old room keys. Your year will start the day you register.

All I have now is a number which I added to My Disney Experience app. Never received a certificate.

Certificate is old school. ;)

You do need to stop at GS though to activate the AP and prove that you are eligible for a discounted pass as well as get your AP card that is used for discounts.

are they still giving out AP cards? I got an AP last November and they never gave me a card.

according to the official Disney FAQ -- it does say a card is needed for the discount.

Q. How do I receive my Annual Passholder discount on food and merchandise when I am visiting the Walt Disney World theme parks?

A.
It’s easy! Simply present your annual pass card—along with a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport—at the time of purchase, when you book and when you redeem any Passholder offer.

To receive Passholder discounts and benefits for which you are eligible on disneyworld.com, please link your annual pass or passes to your Disney account.

With that said, I'm pretty sure I got a 20% discount when we went this past February -- but it might have been from DVC membership.
