Variety is reporting that McG {Terminator:Salvation} is now set to direct the upcoming Disney film, "20,000 Leagues under the Sea: Captain Nemo".
The story will follow Captain Nemo as he builds his famous ship the "Nautilis."
The original version, "20,000 Leagues Unde the Sea" was realesed in 1954 by the Walt Disney Company as their first live action film, and is based on the book by Jules Verne.

That sounds interesting. I've never even seen the first one... how is it?

Quite good. It's on TV periodically. Don't know wether you can buy it or not. Maybe it's one of those vault Disney things where it only comes out for distribution every few years. Can't swear to that though.

20,000 Leagues was/is my all time favorite movie and in my book a classic. You can get it off Netflix and is well worth the watch. The ride at WDW was cool and always make me sad to see the spot that it was in. I made a pilgrimage to Poo's playhouse tree to see the Nautilus submarine. I wish I could shake the hand of the craftsman that left the secret mark to honor the memory of the ride
I took the back stage tour in Dec. and saw a full size Nautilus submarine on the back lot. Its my understanding its used for set dressing at conventions and such. I just hope on the new movie that they keep the same design of the sub. Science Fiction channel did a remake and the sub was nothing like the original.

Knowing Disney, it probably is... but i'll check it out. Hopefully its not in the vault for the next ten years.

Great original movie. They even had Kirk Douglas sing - not bad, he had a Whale of a Tail to Tell . . " [What is it about Disney, they later got even Sean Connery to sing in another movie.]

I look forward to this new one.

But will Captain Nemo find Nemo?

Maybe they could get Fabio to play Nemo and Ellen to play the Kirk Douglas part.

I'm told by reliable sources that you can find that "Whale of a Tail" song on the "Kirk Douglas' Greatest Hits" CD----

One of the stupidest moves they ever made was taking out the attraction. I bet they are regretting it bigtime now that another movie version is being made.

I beat they will be putting a newer version of it back in once this new version comes out.

If the internet rumors are true, they will be. But not in the way you'd expect. And not in the place you'd expect, either. ;)

This is the only ride besides Space Mountain that I remember riding at the 2 days I spent at WDW. When I was 11, and doing the math it was 22 years ago. :sad2: I am now coming on what we call our 1st REAL trip to WDW on a 4/3 plan with DH and DD's and am sooo sad that the ride is gone. I know DD (8) would love this ride esp. when it had the tentacles come up and shake ya. Maybe it will be put back in and will be even more fun than the original.:cheer2:
