What does a two year old girl want for her birthday? My girls are going to be 20 and 25 so I have NO IDEA!:confused3

Don't want to buy something that is a total waste of $$$ and I want to spend $40 or so dollars on the gift or gifts. Mostly I want it to be age appropriate.
What do you think?

At that age, this was my DD6's most favorite ever toy. She received it for her birthday and it was her constant entertainment all summer long.

I have seen it at the big box stores (Kmart, Walmart, etc) for right around $30.

Little People house or other set, a princess tea set and dvd like Alice, disney dress up with a movie, play wooden food that they can slice from Melissa and doug - they even have a birthday set or a cute ice cream set with a shopping cart, leap frog tag junior with a book or two, ride on toy or a first tike, a baby doll and a stroller.

When my girls were little I loved the Crayola Color Wonder markers and paper. I liked that you can ONLY color on the paper and no other surfaces- walls, floor, table, self! I would put them in the car to take on trips or to restaurants and they could color all they wanted with no mess!

I have to second the water table, we got DD one last year for her 2nd birthday and both kids used it ALL summer. One thing to make sure of if you get one is that it is elevated so they stand and play in it...I think it keeps the water a little more contained.

I love to give personalized monogrammed gifts at this age. Kids receive many toys and it becomes a burden to the parents. I agree a watertable is great, the only caveat with this type of gift is possible limitations on space. Does the family have a large enough area? Personalized gifts from Ebay or Etsy take little space and are treasured as keepsakes. Stephen Joseph Backpacks, crayon rolls or a little apron with felt produce pieces make beautiful gifts. Have the childs name monogrammed for free. They are affordable, but people always think you spent more.

I like to do non toy things. I try to pick one type of gift and that is what all the kids get through the year. This year is bath stuff.
I had a girl bday a couple weeks ago and I got princesses bath soap and bubble bath I got at target for $2.50 ea and a princess bath towel at Kohls for $15.
I think I had a bath puff and some kid shampoo too. It would be really cute in a pail or a tote of some kind of I couldn't find one.

I would vote for something along the lines of a sweet little sleeping bag or something, perhaps monogrammed, that she could grow with. My DD got a cute princess sleeping bag when she was little and she loved that thing for years. Always loved to get it out to watch movies, even liked having it on her little bed.

Best of luck on your search!

Baby dolls and umbrella stroller!! Tea set, books, crayons, play-doh. Check out the wooden toys section of toys r us, they have cute magnetic dress up dolls, puzzles, lacing stings. Any dress up clothes and jewlery. These are things that both my girls love. Don't forget bubbles or a bubble blower.

DD loves her Little People castle. She also has the Fairy playsets, totally adorable. She's also big on (washable) crayons and markers, coloring books, and stickers. :thumbsup2

You can't go wrong with Fisher Price Little People. What I love about LP is that they truly grow with the child...at two they are focused on the people and as they get older the characters start talking to each other and the sets are really used.

Most 2yo toys are only for 2yos... the LP last until at least 5 or 6yo! :thumbsup2

My standard 2yo birthday gift is always LP. With two kids we've been to a ton of parties! :)

I work with 2 year olds and they love...

Play food, dishes!
Paint!!!!!
PLAY-DOH!
Musical Instraments!
Dress-up!

When I buy for kids I get Play-doh (because whatever you have you can always use more)!

Or if I know they like a certain character or something I go with sheets, lunch boxes, unbrellas that sort of thing...fun but also useful.

Good luck!

I would seriously kill you! or make my 2 year old play with this stuff at YOUR house! :rotfl2:

Right now my daughter loves this! (turned 2 in Feb.)

...and it's Disney appropriate! :thumbsup2

I'd go for the little people....can't go wrong with those. My nieces love them.

My daughter got a play guitar for her 2nd birthday. She still plays with that thing daily! It came from her big brother and we got it at Toys R Us.

I second the bath theme items! My DD loves her baths and loves the little bath sets that she got around Christmas time. You could get a cute towel set with bubbles, bath crayons, shampoo and maybe even a nightgown or robe.

Plate/Cup/Silverware sets are popular with my DD as well. You could also do a gift certificate for someplace like Chuck E Cheese.

At age 2, my DD was really into Dress-up. She actually wore a Cinderella dress pretty much every day for a year starting before she turned 2. Maybe she is the odd one out, but a lot of people bought her the Little People toys and she never played with them. The only one she played with was the castle and she did play with that one a lot- she quit playing with it when she turned 3 and got a big girl doll house for her birthday. She asked us to get rid of all of her little people toys before she turned 3 1/2 because they were baby toys. She loved all the Disney Princess dolls that were made for the under 3 girls. She absolutely loved her tea sets. She had several and played with them all the time. There is a brand called Alex that makes one that comes in a picnic basket and the plates and cups are metal so they won't break. She had tea parties with that about every day for a year. Any kind of kitchen toy was big when she was 2. She liked all the Melissa and Doug type play sets. Play-Doh was a bit hit at 2. There is a bubble machine for the really young ones that my DD got that she absolutely adored. Books are also great - at 2 (and still at age 4 today), my DD loves all the Olivia the pig books. Before you get bath stuff, you might want to be sure she doesn't have sensitive skin or allergies.

My daughter is 2 and she LOVES her babydoll and stroller. It's always a big hit. She also loves books and pretend play stuff, like her kitchen. She doesn't care for the Little People stuff too much. She'll play with it for a while and then it hits the toybox and they sink to the bottom.

My daughter has recently become interested in tricycles. She is almost 2 1/2, so I'm not sure if that would be too much to do for a new 2 year old, but they usually go for around $30-$40 dollars.

My suggestion is go with the doll and stroller. It's a BIG HIT around here.

I agree with all the suggestions...BUT, if you aren't sure if the child already has any of these I would talk with her mom. Let her know what you have been considering. I went to a 2 year bday party a couple of months ago, and just asked her mom if there was anything in particular she needed. I could tell she was really grateful that I asked! She said her daughter needed summer clothes and pjs, she has an older child as well and between the two of them they have tons of toys and books (I had been considering getting her books). So she got some super cute pjs!
