Hi,

Does anyone know whether those two-way radio/walkie-talkie things work onboard? I'd really like a way to stay in contact with my daughter (14), and from what I understand, pagers are not given to teens. These are a fairly decent model with a range of 2-miles and they worked really well when my dad and my family drove separate vehicles for 1800 miles.

Thanks,
Laura

They are fairly reliable, but you can have dead areas going through multiple decks.
The important point is to make sure you have the type that has the subchannels. Everyone has these now, and with only 14 regular channels, they are almost useless without the subchannels.

Hey,

We used them on our Nov Wonder cruise and they worked great! Would not go without them!

Doc is right about getting them with sub-channels...everyone seemed to have them and we could hear other peoples conversations until we went to a diffrent sub...

If my husband and I were going to be apart we would take our 2-ways and we were always in touch...let me tell you you walk so much on the ship that it really does save some steps using the radios...I even took them into Nassau and they worked the whole time I was off the ship! (Hubby called to have me get some rum 'cause it was so cheap in Nassau...lol)

Hope this is helpful! Have fun!!

We took them and they didn't work well for us. It wasn't so much that there were too many people on the channels, but they just didn't work when there was a lot of metal around. If we were in an open area like an atrium, they worked okay, but if one of us was in the stateroom, they didn't work well at all.

One time, DH went to the movie theater while I was having DDs hair braided. I was on Deck 9 and he tried telling me they were leaving the movie (Deck 5). I didn't hear a thing. He finally came up to deck 9 and found us.

If you already have them, go ahead and take them along. But I wouldn't buy them just for the cruise.
