2 Way Radios

Not from personal experience, but from previous threads, cell phones are

probably a better option. The SEARCH function seems to be working today.

I would first try "walkie talkies" and then "cell phones". I'm sure you'll find

lots of helpful info. from fellow DISers. :thumbsup2

Enjoy your trip!

they didnt work for us, unless we were standing on top of each other which defeats the idea( ours were @ $ 70.00) probably depends on the brand etc, im sure there are ones that do work...

Yes they work, it's just that a thousand OTHER people have them TOO! :teeth: it can be very hard sometimes getting ahold of your family member or who ever when you have other people breaking into your channel. :confused3 Sure, you can change channels but that only lasts so long. we all have walkie talkies but we also each have a Cell Phone in case we cannot get in touch with eachother. All in all, they are a good investment I think so if you got 'em, bring 'em! Helen

If you already have them and you don't mind having the extra baggage I'd bring them. We tried them in 2003 and found out that everyone else uses them too so is sometimes hard to get a word in edgewise. We used cell phones this last trip and this worked much better.

We used cell phones during our June trip. They seemed to work very nicely.. And cingular is our company and we had perfect reception everywhere! Hope I helped!:)

We have used 2 way radios (Motorola) in the past and they work just fine. We primarily used them in MK and had no probs. Now we just use our cell phones. Its like 2 uses in 1 rather than lugging the extra 2 way radios. We have Sprint and have never had any problems with them in the parks or resort areas. I suppose that if you have kids, the 2 way radios might be a better idea than giving them a much more expensive cell phone though....

We used them loads in both disney and shopping malls. They were generally brilliant, for example we stayed in royal plaza DTD and whilst dad did his conference call in the hotel we went to DTD and he called using the 2 way radios when he was finished. There were blackspots but you have to expect that with radios. Also- don't spend loads otherwise you'll get upset if they don't work perfectly. We got ours from walmart for $24 and so we were really pleased!!!! :thumbsup2

I have Motorola ones too! We did use them, and for the most part, after a few attemps, we are usually able to come up with a channel/subchannel combo that works for us with little or no others on it. I generally will make my 12 YR old keep one in his pocket, as he does not have a cell phone. THat way, if for some reason, we get seperated, he can reach me. But, I do usally use my cell phone to reach others in my party. (We have Cingular and have not had a problem)

Our niece and nephew had them last spring. They were very bulky and a complete wase. By the end of the trip, they stopped bringing them. The reception wasn't the best when they tried them, they almost left them behind on several rides, they always hard to remember to deal with them geting on/off rides (turning them off, securing them), which made them nervous. A big hassle!

I guess if you'll use them then they can be handy. We have found cell phones to be MUCH more useful, compact, can be secured in a pocket. Cell phones can be put on vibrate mode too , so you can fell them in a noisy spot. If they are on vibrate mode then you don't have to worry about taking them on rides/shows with you.
