1) if you have apin on does that signal you are willing to trade...ie i have pins i buy as a souvenier for me and don't want to trade..if they are on a camera bag in full view does that mean i want to trade them>

2) how often do resort pins change. i want to get one for each resort we stay at but if we go to a resort 2 x will they have a new pin?

To answer:
1. With your pins in full view, you may be approached to trade. If you don't want to trade, I would suggest simply telling the person that you are not interested in trading, and of course you are under no obligation to trade, just by wearing your pins...If that doesn't work, liberally apply pepperspray/mace to the face of the veracious trader. ;) :lmao:

2. There are literally thousands of pins, which are updated constantly. Check your favorite spots and you will almost always find new ones. The pin store at Disney Village Market Place has them displayed by category for easy finding (resorts, characters, attractions, etc.)

Where is Disney Village Marketplace? This sounds like a store I want to visit!

Downtown Disney area...Disney Village Market Place, Pleasure Island, and Downtown Disney West-Side. Pin Store is on the East end...Kind of near the World of Disney Store.

It's right near SummerSands and it's a big open store right in the middle. You can't miss it when you're walking through DTD. And it has almost every pin you could think of!

When we were at H&V for dinner, my DD asked our waitress about pin trading. Our waitress arranged a "manager type" CM who came to our table and taught our DD how to trade. We were told that approaching a person other than a CM and asking to trade was rude, unless you were at an organized pin trading event. She also instructed us on how to "perform" the trade transaction.

We all have lanyards that were full, and we were never once approached by anyone to trade.

Rude? :confused3 Then many people have been rude to me and I did not even realize it! :rotfl2:
Someone asking to make a Guest to Guest trade is not rude at all. I suppose if they approached the person rudely and/or said YOU HAD to trade with them. :confused3
I don't wear a lanyard much in the parks any more. Just got out of habit when it was so hot and sticky out. And I guess I have not got back in the groove of wearing it again.

When I did, quite often some of the pins were ones I had just traded for. So chances were slim I would want to trade it right away, if at all. If a CM or guest inquires about trading that particular pin, I just reply I just received it in a trade and would like to keep it.

There are times I wear pins in the parks that I do not want to trade. I wear those on my clothing, like a lapel or directly on my blouse. (Or camera strap or pin bag strap)
If you see a pin trader wearing pins like that, chances are they are not their traders.

And people wear what are referred to as Peacock lanyards. As you may guess those are full of pins they are proud of and like to wear for various reasons. Again, if you do this and someone inquires on trading, just nicely explain you are just wearing it, but it is not for trade.
Then there are the people who ANY pin they wear is up for a trade, for the right pin in return.
If you plan on wearing or displaying favorite non-trading pins in the park, you may want to invest in the locking pin backs so they will not be lost.
If I wear a lanyard and go on rides, I just tuck my lanyard inside my clothes. But I check my pin backs occasionally to make sure they don't come loose.

Resort pins changing can happen often or rarely. I have not noticed any rule of thumb. Around some holidays the resorts will have their own specialty pins.

I was just passing along what we were told by the CM who trained my daughter on Pin Trading Etiquette.

We invested in the locking backs as we found the cheesy plastic backs just don't stay on. Years ago when this all started the backs were of much better quality and the pins coming off were not much of an issue.

Guests can ask other guests to trade, and not be thougt of as rude, unless of course the asking person is rude....I'm sure your DD wouldn't be.....no one other than CM's are required to trade pins they are wearing....CM's are given pins to trade by WDW, some wear their own pins (but not the ones they themselves want to keep) that they wouldn't mind trading! It's a fun thing for guests to do to interact with CM's and other guests. Guests however do not have to trade, CM's who are "on-stage" however do!

Fantastic, I just made an ADR at Raglan Road so I'll be sure and check it out.

I don't know if it's still like this, but when we were there for Thanksgiving 2004, we learned that CM's wearing green lanyards would only trade with the younger children. Mine were too old to trade with them. I have occasionally bought various lots of pins on ebay to trade when we go!

Have a good time. Pin trading can be fun...my DS collects Chip & Dale, my DD collects villains, and I collect fairies (mostly Tink).

Correct that Cast wearing green lanyards are those who trade with children. But I don't know what the age limit is for green lanyard trading.

The store in DTD Marketplace is aptly enough named Disney's Pin Traders. I was just in there tonight. :teeth:  It's an illness. :lmao: ;)

DPT is right across the walkway from Once Upon a Toy, and right next to the kiddie train ride.

As a side bar -- IF you are a WDW Annual Passholder, you will get a 10% discount at WoD. But they rarely have Limited Edition pins. Mostly Open Edition (rack).

"if that doesn't work, liberally apply pepperspray/mace to the face of the veracious trader."

:rotfl2: truthfully that's kind of what i am afraid of, the rabid pin traders :rotfl2:

thanks...and to trade, i am guessing there is a cheaper source for pins than disney stores? i wouldn't mind having 1 or 2 i'd trade "in case' but don't want to sink a bunch of money into it. I checked a couple places online ( pin source or something like that) but it seemed like by the time you'd pay shipping, you'd be spending $$$$ and the multiple pins were in giant quanities...main reason i just figured i'd buy what i want and be done with it( old dog, hard to learn new tricks :teeth: )

and if i'm remember right all cms don't have pins do they?
