Just got back from AKL and I am already thinking about our next trip-- last week we stayed in a 1 bedroom but I was thinking of getting 2 studios instead next time-- Has anyone done this before? Will they try to give you 2 studios that are close together? can I book 2 studios online or do I have to call member services to book?

We like the space in a 1 bedroom. They will try to keep the rooms together if requested but it all depends on who is checking out on your check in day.

You can book both online separately which is what MS would have to do if you called them.

The rooms will be as close together as possible- depending on what is available the day you are checking in in the category you are booked in. So the lower the number of rooms in the category the less likely you will be right near each other. Also my understanding is rooms right on top of each other (so room XX04 and x104) are considered closer by room assigners then rooms down the halls (xx04 and xx10).

Remember you'll need one adult in each room and no connecting doors. Two studios work great when you have two couples or adult kids, when you have teenagers, not so much.

We have found that you are at the mercy of the room assigner. Some do a better job than others and your success differs by room assigner, resort and of course available inventory.

Be aware that if there is limited studio availability to the room assigner on your checkin day, the rooms could be VERY far apart.

Kidani is the best example, as it has the longest hallways of any hotel in the world. Worst case scenario there, two rooms could be quite literally 1.1 miles apart.

The likelihood of that is of course low, but this is a risk you take in booking two rooms. Consider how often we see posts here from people angry that they didn't get their room request. The same circumstance could occur when you book two rooms and want them close.

If you're wanting two real beds, best IMO to book a two bedroom, or to book two studios at a small resort like VWL or VGF where you cannot be "too" far apart.

Ha, I had to LOL at that comment! :lmao:

IF you were assigned two rooms very far apart, you would have the option upon checking in of requesting a room change for one of the rooms, and they could get you closer when another room opens up.

OP: I've thought about this idea as well, if you don't care about the full kitchen, there is definitely advantages to two studios vs a one-bedroom for the same number of points.

One time I requested rooms close together at AKV before Kidani opened. I was reserving one room for my family of 3, and another for my brother's family of 4. I reserved a 1 BR for my family. Because my brother was arriving later and only staying a couple days, I reserved a studio for them. Our reservation was for the time when Kidani was being built. Both were reserved as savannah views. My brother got a room across the hall from ours. The only way it could have been better is if we had gotten the adjoining studio, but, it was already occupied.

I did 2 studios for a trip with my parents. Got them their own space and we had our own. They were right across the hall from us. It was great. I liked it better than a 1 bedroom because we got the extra bathroom and we have different schedules, so it was nice not having to worry about disturbing anyone coming or going.

My sister and I are getting two studios for this same reason at Aulani. The full kitchen and laundry are of no use to us, but the second full bed and bath are a god send. We did mark the resi as "traveling with" I hope we are able to get close rooms.

If you have the 11 month advantage and can book 2 value studios you won't be too far apart. This is what we are hoping to do in the future.

Next year we will be trying two studios for the first time. We will be going to HHI for a 25th anniversary trip. We decided to have our kids come with us. They will be 19 and 17. We prefer the extra bath and the extra privacy to the full kitchen and washer/dryer. Plus if the kids end up not being able to go due to work or school schedules we can cancel the one studio.
