2 Single Strollers vs Double Stroller

We have a very lightweight but sturdy double umbrella-ish stroller we use just for Disney. It's called a Delta city street or something like that. I got it on Amazon for around $60. It folds up very compact and is easy to get on and off the busses. We've rented Disney strollers in the past and did not care for them. The whole reason I picked this particular stroller was because a good number of the reviews on Amazon mentioned people bought this stroller just for Disney lol. I actually had it shipped to my parent's house in FL and planned to leave it in FL just for our trips, but I wound up liking it so much I brought it home and now I use it all the time.

As I mentioned up thread, we took our City Select and it was the best choice for us. Obviously your experience was different, but I wouldn't issue a blanket statement that it's awful. For us it was perfect.

City Select is the best stroller ever, I loved it, but taking it apart for the buses was not easy, and a huge hassle. Other than that it was perfect. If anyone is not using buses, I say take a Select... I wouldn't recommend it for anyone using the buses though.

I didn't say you said it was awful. I just didn't want anyone to think that this stroller might not be a good option, because it's worth considering, for sure. FOR US it was a great option - for you it was not. We didn't find it to be a big problem on busses. Certainly not trying to start an argument over strollers.

Lord, does it ever. Pregnancy might be in our future again, and all I can think about is how hard it will make our next trip!!

If you have at least 2 adults I would go with two singles. You may find there are times you don't want it for the oldest. For instance, if we are just going to another resort for dinner, there can be some walking so I would likely still take a stroller for a 1 yo but if we are heading back to the resort after dinner, not for a 5 yo. If the 5 yo want s to walk in the park just fold up the stroller and hook it over the other one. I find the doubles hard to maneuver. If you ever want to split up, having two is nice. Things come up where one parents may need to take the little one back to the hotel and meet back up later. I'm always a big fan of having more flexibility. Will they bother each other? What if the baby is napping? You might consider a sit and stand though. We had 2 Chicco Echo strollers.

I debated this very thing...renting 1 and bringing 1 but decided on renting the double. It was almost as much to rent the single as the double. My oldest is 4.5 (youngest is 2) so he can walk around himself most of the time (so no issues splitting up) but if he needs to rest he'll have a spot. My mom is on a scooter so its just two adults (my dad and I) so only one has to push with a double. Umbrella strollers really aren't enough for if my kids need to sleep in the stroller, in my opinion and we have some late nights planned. I rented the city mini double (not the GT) because its very light and easily foldable. We will mostly be driving to the parks except possibly MK so not too many times on the bus with it.

For all of the reasons mentioned, I'd do a double. We have a City Select (might be the best stroller ever) and it's very easy to maneuver, as well as to fold up and load on trams or whatnot. I would never want to be tied to pushing two strollers.

Can you fold it with both seats on it? We have one and the second seat kit for number 2 on the way, but I wasn't sure how easy it was for the trams or busses.

And we haven't taken two kids yet, but we have already decided we'd rather do a double stroller. It's easier when we load on trams/busses to have my husband on stroller duty and me on kid duty.

We bought a city mini single that we got super cheap, so we don't rent. It paid for itself after the first trip and it's so nice to have our own.

We are looking into the contours elite (huge basket) or the city mini side by side.

It folds flattest with a seat off. The way we did it was that I wore the youngest, and held the oldest's hand. We had all of the stuff in the bottom of the stroller in a bag (like a reusable grocery bag with a shoulder strap) so that it could be quickly pulled out. Either DH or I would throw it over a shoulder, and he would fold up the stroller. It's so fast to do that it was never a problem to quickly remove a seat and fold it up. It's our everyday stroller, so we're very accustomed to it. Any minor inconvenience was totally worth it for is to have that stroller - I find side-by-sides too wide, and my kids can nap in this stroller which ended up being important. I will say that we didn't take a lot of busses, and we rope dropped every day so we didn't always need the tram. So we weren't doing this 10 times a day. As a pp mentioned, she found it to be a hassle. But we loved it and are taking it on out next trip.

We have a 1yo and a 3yo and the double works best for us. The 3yo prefers to walk for the most part so one of us will push the stroller while the other one walks (or runs after rather) with him. Eventually he does get tired and want to sit so we just put him in the stroller and we can go about the rest of our day.

We have a City Select and love it. Lots of storage space and its very easy to push.

We have done it both ways, and I will never take a double stroller back to Disney World again. When our kids were 2 and 5 we took a midsize stroller with storage on the bottom for the 2 year old and a small umberella stroller for the 5 year old. This worked best for us.

Will your 5 year old actually ride in the stroller a lot? When my kids were about those ages, the big one didn't use a stroller in daily life & wouldn't want to sit in one much at WDW. We had a regular (non-umbrella) stroller for the younger one and sometimes the 5.5 year old sat in it for a break. Late in the trip when we were all getting tired and on a long day walking around Epcot we rented a Disney double stroller to give tired legs a break. We were very glad to have only one smallish stroller on buses and to park when on attractions, yet still have the basket and seat needed for little guy.

As an older adult and frequent traveler to Disney World, I will say this about strollers (we toured with one once for our then five year old granddaughter and it was an umbrella one). As a person who does not tour with a stroller but sees them a lot in the parks, the double strollers are a bit of a "problem" with the narrow aisles in shops. So if you plan to do a lot of shopping, it might not be very easy to get a double stroller around a store that easily. You will have to park the stroller next to whatever it is you are looking at which more than likely will block the aisle from others. yes, they can go around but I've seen double strollers meeting double strollers and it's been interesting to watch the other patrons trying to get around the blockage.

And I agree with others on if you use any type of stroller that is not your own, that you practice folding it up so you can do it more quickly when boarding a bus or any other type of transportation where that is needed. And that goes for double and single strollers. Nothing is more frustrating for the family and the others waiting behind them when the stroller won't fold and all four are stuck at the entrance to the vehicle because one parent is trying to fold the stroller, the kids wants to get on the vehicle and the other parent can't manage both kids by his/her self. If there are two strollers, though, that could be even more complicated.
