2 Single Strollers vs Double Stroller

We'll be taking our first trip to Disney World in early Dec. We have two kids, and at the time of the trip they will be 5 and 1 (just will have turned 1 right before the trip). We are debating renting a double stroller vs using two umbrella strollers. Has anyone tried both, and which did you prefer?

We are staying at the Polynesian, in case that's relevant in terms of thinking about travel to/from the parks. Thanks for the advice!

I prefer two umbrella strollers. Easier to fold up on busses and easier to maneuver in the parks. I know you'll have the monorail for MK and E but you'll still have to travel by bus to AK and HS.

We opted for two separate strollers, and am glad we did. It made it so much easier to get on transportation, walking through crowds, getting through the airport, etc. One added benefit is that we had additional storage and 4 cup holders instead of 2. I found a great deal on city mini strollers and bought two and immediately sold one after our trip for what I paid for. Having two also allowed us to split up more easily, if someone needed a break or a snack.

Whether you choose one or two, I'd recommend scouring for a good deal on a city mini online, maybe used... You can always sell it when you return.

2 singles would be easier to maneuver. You just need to consider whether you would ever prefer to have one person able to push both.

We bring a double. We talked about 2 singles, but it didn't make sense for us. A good double isn't difficult to maneuver or fold, it is just heavier. If one kid wants to walk, you still have to carry or push an empty stroller and hold hands. That was actually the biggest reason. We had one each time who would want to get up and walk for a while. I think it just depends on your kids.

I vote double. I have a guzzie & gus umbrella that isn't too wide, spins/turns really easily and flattens quickly for the buses. Going with the double because like a previous poster said - if you have two singles and one child wants to walk, someone is still stuck pushing a stroller.
At least with a double you can take turns pushing.

know most times you will not be using buses but with loading 2 singles on bus each of you will have to help a child plus carry stroller if using singles but with double one can carry stroller and second parent can help the kids. with a young one year old you will most likely have to carry on bus plus a single stroller

I'd rent a city mini double. The seats recline near flat and have the hoods that just about cover the child completely. Have to imagine it would be far more comfortable.

For all of the reasons mentioned, I'd do a double. We have a City Select (might be the best stroller ever) and it's very easy to maneuver, as well as to fold up and load on trams or whatnot. I would never want to be tied to pushing two strollers.

we did a double when kids were younger. It was a sit and stand, so there was a bench seat for my older. Worked out great.

We did two singles when our kids were three, but at the time we had three more adults with us so plenty of people to push strollers if someone needed a break. This year our kids are five, and for most of our trip it will be just the two of them, DH, and myself, so we're doing a double this time so only one of us needs to push. Also, as someone mentioned above, I think it will be easier for us to get two kids on and off buses if only one of us has to deal with a stroller.

2 umbrella strollers, definitely. We took a double our first year and after that decided to try two single strollers, it is just so much easier.

We went with a double stroller this year (had a single and double last year). It's nice only having one. Our stroller is a combi so it sits on its wheels and can be rolled when folded though. I saw a dad fighting with a double stroller that folded in half and had to be carried (I think it was a city mini but I don't know that for sure). That would definitely change my vote if that was the double in question. Ours fit well in the monorail. The only time it would have been nice to have 2 was when we split up but our DD was old enough to walk in those situations. When we had two strollers we did find it stressful to get everything folded up and all children aboard the buses, but it wasn't really that big a deal either (but definitely a hidden cost to the extra storage space - most of it had to come out).

we take 2 vs 1 cause u can move around easier and split up if you want each with a kid we do that due to having a boy and gilr and diff ages and one wanting to do something the other doesn't. we have 2 mcclarens that recline. they are so easy to carry. i actually carry both when getting on and off transportations and my wife deals with the kids. in the airport it's easy too cause they both fold up to fit in one airport bag to carry for using off the plane.

i just personally don't like doubles. they take up too much room room on the busses due to their width and are harder to move about in stores. we actually have a double wide city mini gt at home along with a single city mini gt at home. i have used the double like 2 times.

We're taking our City Mini Double GT. It is kind of heavy to lug on and off buses but like others have mentioned... I'm sure my older child especially will want to walk at times (she'll be 5) and someone will still need to hold her hand which would be more difficult if we are both pushing strollers. Also, my younger one will be 2 when we go and he will need help getting on and off the bus so it will be easier for us for my husband to deal with the stroller and me to be able to carry him. Plus, I love our double stroller... It's so easy to push, has great storage and the sunshades cover very well and my children are comfy in it. Plus it's only 1 thing to keep up with rather than 2. Looks like varying opinions so it just depends on what works for your family.

A double stroller is what has worked best for us simply because we want one adult to be able to take the young ones while the other adult takes the bigger kids on rides. There are advantages to each, so I would decide how you plan on splitting up in the parks to decide what works for you.

A good double stroller- We purchased a city mini- best investment ever. My kids will be 5 and 6 and we still will take it this year. So amazingly easy to fold and get on a bus with.

I could never imagine taking two strollers. While one of us is pushing the double the other can check our FP times, look at the map, get in the backpack for something, etc... With two separate strollers you are both forced to push and would have to stop on the side to do anything- sounds very inefficient to me.

Do not bring a city select! It is a magnificent stroller... but not for Disney!!! We used one the first time we went, and the bus was not good, it folds easy, but taking the seat off, and having to hold that, it was just A LOT of work. I would get a double umbrella if you are doing an umbrella, I wouldn't bring a full size stroller to Disney. We have a maclaren, and it works just fine. the seats recline, the canopy is good enough... and it folds easy.

As I mentioned up thread, we took our City Select and it was the best choice for us. Obviously your experience was different, but I wouldn't issue a blanket statement that it's awful. For us it was perfect.
