We were in Disney last week with deluxe dining. We went to several places but on my receipt @ 50S Prime Time my DD noticed a charge of 2% for service fee. Is this something new? We ate there during the holiday season last winter and did not see it and I did not see it at any other place?
Our meals included Hoop De Doo, Jiko's, Ohana, Garden Grill, 1900 Park Fare, Cape May, The Plaza are just a few. No one else charged the 2%. When did this start?

I dont have an answer but I am curious as well. We have a reservation for November.

Did you order alcoholic beverages? There are some funny beverage-related taxes in Florida.

1) Was the bill $2.50 ?
2) That would make the tip 5¢.
3) I heard WDW was "nickel and diming" people.

:confused3

I am also wondering if you ordered anything "different"? Like a smaller portion off the adult menu for a child or asked to have something made specially?

If they are adding charges like this I will be scrutinizing every receipt during our trip and questioning what surcharges and service fees are for. :)

more details, please! Was there anything out of the ordinary on your order that might prompt some sort of extra charge? And did you have to pay this service charge OOP, or was it covered by your dining plan?

I have heard of some retaurants (not at Disney) now charging for to-go boxes, as well as to split meals, "plate" charges, etc. First I've heard about anything odd at Disney.

I agree it might be an "extra" something you ordered and that's how they show it charged. Did you get a drink on the DDP and then add glowing ice cubes or a souvenir cup maybe? :confused3

This has to do with the dining plan and the union contract for servers, you are NOT charged the amount.

Can you tell us more? We're going to 50's with the Deluxe Dining Plan in 4 weeks and I want to know if I can expect the same charge.

What's the difference if they're not actually charging it to you - it's paid for by the DDP that you already paid for (without a 2% increase in the DDP price).

To clarify it was me and 18 yr old DD. I got pot roast, soda and sundae. She got Chicken, soda and sundae. nothing unusual no alcohol. I did not notice until I got back to hotel. We were on the dining plan and yes it was covered.
I was just curious as I did not see it any place else for the 7 days we were there. I will try to figure out how to copy and paste the reciept.
We were there in Dec and Jan and did not see it then. Just curious if this is something new. I may try to call and see what they say. I will keep you informed.

A cast member already explained here that it's part of the union for servers and not charged to the customer. :confused3

We are at OKW now doing 21 days on DDP, seen the 2% at least twice, Olivias & another I don't remember, not charged to me on DDP so I never questioned it.

So...if you eat there and are not on the DDP will you be charged that additional 2%? JC because we are eating there in Oct.

I've never seen a charge like that and we only pay OOP. I think as suggested earlier, it's just something that was a result of negotiations regarding the dining plan with the union.

There is no service fee on the bill, just the suggested gratuity amounts and your food/beverage prices.

Saw it on a beverage order, it was just soda I think, but we were not charged - it is within the total price and covered by the Dining Plan.
