Hey I have a question to ask and would love some input. We are planning an upcoming trip to WDW and we are looking at either getting two rooms at a value or 1 room at POR. We have stayed at ASMo and ASSp. and have loved both of them. The kids especially! We love the food we love the atomosphere, however it will be a little bit cheaper for us to stay at POR. but don't really know anything about it. We love the value resorts because to us it makes us feel like were in the heart of it if that makes any sense with all the huge figures everywhere. but on the other hand saving money at the other resort. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THanks in advance.

I think it depends a lot on how old your kids are and how much space you're used to at home. Right now, my kids are younger (all under 10) and we family-bed in a fairly small house. Being in close quarters is no big deal to us so POR is great. However, I imagine as they get older, we'll need the extra space so will move to 2 value rooms.

we are the same way we are use to tight quarters that really doesn't bother us but what about the atmosphere at POR is it kid friendly

All Disney resorts are kid friendly. But what I'd be looking at with the two rooms is the two bathrooms. One kid in each bathroom in the morning while there is one adult in each bedroom getting ready. Four people with relative privacy. Two sinks. Two coffee pots. Two hair dryers. Four beds. Two tables, four chairs. Two TVs.

Don't know if this is still valid or not, but they used to charge extra at POR for the 5th person in the trundle bed, and the few times I priced it with that extra charge, two standard Value rooms came out cheaper.

I just priced 2 rooms at ASM with park hopper/waterpark option for Dec and it came to 3,390.98 total for the 5 of us. Then I priced POR for the same time and tickets and it came to 2,946.90.:thumbsup2 My kids love POR and the rooms aren't that small. We stayed there the last 3 years and will be going back in Dec. We were never charged extra for a 5th person.

We are a family of four and one of my daughters is bringing a friend. My husband and I decided to get two rooms at the Pop Century and let the teenage girls have their own room. My husband said that was too much togetherness for him and four women! :rotfl2:

We have three kids. While we loved POR, the room was just too small, and double beds? No way, jose'. It does not work for us. You are stuck with double beds at the values, too, but you get 4 of them, not just 2 with a tiny trundle where you basically are sleeping on the floor. Plus, with two rooms, you'd have two bathrooms so more than one person can get ready or go potty if needed.

Personally, I want to try the Family Suites at ASMu. They look awesome. Big bed for mom and dad, pull out beds for younglings, two bathrooms, and a kitchenette. Pretty sweet! If we can't get a good rate there, we'll go with SOG (hubby is military) which has 2 queens and a pull out couch. Never again will we try to sleep 5 people on 2 double beds (with or without the trundle). It works for some, but it does not for us.

I truly love POR, it is a wonderful, beautiful resort, but unless we get two rooms there (which we cannot afford), we have stay to elsewhere.

We did Port Orleans last August with 3 kids and it was fine. We weren't there that much anyway. Port Orleans has a very nature type atmosphere. The pool was wonderful and the kids loved the slide. The bathroom area had a privacy curtain from the rest of the room which was really nice and the sink is separate from the bathroom. It worked fine for getting ready. One in the shower, one getting ready and of course the boys with the don't look at me attitude could get dressed in the room.

POR has lots of fun things as well: such as pole fishing and paddleboats. Read about it and look at the pictures on allearsnet.com under accommodations. I think that you will love it.

Also consider renting DVC points to stay in a villa. We have four kids and love, love, love the two-bedroom villas; you could get a one-bedroom and have two queen beds, a living room with a sofa sleeper, a kitchen and a balcony or patio.

I stayed at POR with my family of 5 last year and we didn't find the room too small for us-me, DH, DD(8), DS(6) and DD(4) but I must say I like the values better. The food courts are better for my picky eater-POR didn't have hot dogs or PBJ's (I could have bought bread, PB and jelly in the gift shop but I just wanted one Smuckers Uncrustable like you can buy in the value food courts). I like the theming at the values and I like that the bus stops at the values have queues. I also like that the value are more compact so no room is too far from the food court or bus stop. The moderates are huge. I really wish POR would offer prefered rooms. You can be a real hike from the food court there. Next summer we are going to try the ASMu family suites.

With a value you wouldn't get two coffee pots-the values don't have coffee pots. The Moderates have 2 sinks so you wouldn't be gaining any sinks in 2 values rooms.

The one bedroom DVC units only hold 4 (except AKV which has a sleep chair in the living room). The bedroom has one king bed not 2 queens.

Oops! :scared1:

I messed up. Try a two bedroom villa - lots more space two bathrooms, one with a whirlpool tub.
