2 Rooms at POR or 1 Room at CR?

For the next trip I am planning, I'm torn between two rooms at POR or one at the Contemporary. We are a family of 5, two parents, two college aged kids, and one high schooler. Our last trip we stayed at AOA. It was our first time staying at a value resort and though we loved the space, we really missed the amenities of a moderate or deluxe resort. We missed having a table service restaurant in our resort as well as a bar/lounge (other than the pool bar) for the parents to relax at while the kids spent all day in the parks.

We love the Contemporary and would prefer to stay there, I am just not sure we will fit one room. Has anyone ever stayed at the contemporary with basically 5 adults?

You could absolutely fit 5 adults in one room at the CR, but it could turn into a logistical nightmare with sleeping arrangements and bathroom time. So, in your scenario, I would opt for two rooms at POR. By doing so, you'll have 4 beds and 2 bathrooms. Put in a request for connecting rooms (two rooms with an interior door that connects them, so your family can easily move from one room to another). It is, of course, just a request, but Disney will do the best that they can to accommodate it.

I would also go for 2 rooms at POR. I love this resort. It has a TS restaurant , good food court, nice pool. Boat to Disney Springs. Lovely resort theme and feel.

If you are comfortable being in one room together, CR would be fine, IMHO. The rooms are quite spacious and you will get two queens and a day bed, plus a balcony. Of course, with two rooms at POR each kid would get their own bed and you will have two bathrooms. It all comes down to whether you want the convenience and amenities of CR or the extra space at POR

My family would be fine in a deluxe with 5, but you know your own family and their routines. Before we leave home we are organized, so that when we arrive we are organized. I cannot stand clutter. This works in our favor on vacation because everything has its space.

I think that if your family would struggle with space or schedules two rooms would be better.

I like both resorts, so I think you can't go wrong either way. Both resorts and options will have their positives.
If you prefer the Contemporary, I say go for it. We also have 2 college aged kids and a high schooler, so like you said, basically 5 adults. We stayed there last year and the room size was great for all of us. There are no walk-out balconies in the Garden Wing though, only a walk-out patio if you are on the first floor. The tower rooms do have full balconies. We did have to stay organized with everyone's stuff, but there was plenty of room and storage to do so. Using the bathroom between all of us was a non-issue, we just discussed a schedule of sorts ahead of time. It was rare we were up and about all at the same time anyway.
Just remember though, that with 5 in a room, they will most likely charge for an extra adult.

The two room option would be nice too, I'm just sharing that we did CR with 5 and it was just fine.

Happy Planning!

They will charge for adults over the two allotted to each room, so likely to be charged for the two college students.

Oh! That's a good point~ so do they charge for each person 18+ once you have over 2 adults?
We stayed on a group reservation, so we did not have the extra charge, but this would be good to know for the future.

Yep, the extra charge appears to be $15 per each extra adult at the moderates and $25 per each extra adult at the deluxes.

With respect to the original post, we stayed at Yacht Club with 5 adults (wife and I and our 3 kids who were late teens/early twenties) and it is a bit cramped and there's a lot of people saying "hurry up" for the bathroom in the mornings/evenings. When the kids were younger we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside several times and it is a great resort, but now that everyone is older, and because the resort is a big part of our vacation, we are going to stick with Yacht Club (or perhaps Beach Club this year since Yacht us under renovation). Thinking about getting 2 rooms at Beach/Yacht this next trip, but that sure is expensive.

2 rooms at POR!

We are a family of 5 as well. 2 adults 3 teens/college age. 2 bathroom trumps all. We done both and things always went smoother with the 2 bathrooms as far as showers at night & getting ready in the morning.

Honestly for the location and amenities alone, i'd most likely go with CR. Without a doubt.

If you do decide to go with POR, it'll be great....its a lovely resort and the boat to Dis.Springs will be a hit with your kids. Cant go wrong with either but my first choice would be CR for sure.

The charge is for 18 and older, yes.

We think it is worth it when we choose to stay in a deluxe, but it does add up.

Thank you for all the replies. I'll have to have a discussion with my family and see if we can stay organized enough for one room. I also forgot about that extra charge for each person 18+ after the first 2 so that will also have to be something we consider.

Something else to consider--how much time does your family spend in the room? I've been helping our neighbors plan their trip and they are go, go, go folks who open and close the park, so having their family of 5 including 2 college aged boys and 1 middle schooler in one room works since it's just a place to crash and they take quick showers. One room would not work for a week with our family of 4, however since we take a good-sized afternoon break and like to spend a chunk of that time chilling in our rooms.

How about waking and bedtimes? My husband crashes as soon as we're in for the night and our teens want to stay up--if you have any night owls or early birds in your group, 2 rooms might be better a well.

This is always a consideration. I am an early riser, but I have clothes ready near the bathroom, and leave the room for coffee and to read. If some of our group wants to rest in the afternoon, (they always do!) the rest of us head to the pool or outside the lobby to relax, swim or read. I think that traveling as a family and sharing a relatively close space can be hard unless you not only know yuour own routines, but can manage to respect and leave room for others. I can do this in WDW, but would rather chew glass and die than share a camper. Some folks are good with that, but I would be claustrophobic.

Have you considered the Polynesian? We recently stayed there as a party of 5 and the room was huge, plenty large enough for 5 adults. There's is 2 queens beds and a nice day bed that is an actual bed, not a pull-down or sleeper sofa. We were considering doing the POR as well, but were given this as one option by our travel agent. You would still be on the monorail and would be in close proximity to many great dining options. We LOVED it there.

You could look at renting points for a 1 BR at Bay Lake Tower. It is very spacious and has two bathrooms.

We have done both, but prefer to stay all in the one room. You know the dynamics of your own family best, however. One small point to remember that I haven't noticed posted here, is that you may be in rooms quite distant from one another at POR. It is a large resort and with essentially 4 adults you could easily be in separate buildings/areas.
