should I book two adjoining rooms at all star movies for my family (2 kids, 2 yrs old and 5 yrs old) or should I spend more money (significantly) and spring for a cabin at Fort Wilderness Campground? Will it be that much more fun for them?

I really don't think it would cost that much more for a cabin at FW than 2 rooms at an All-Star resort, especially if you shop around for discounts, etc. Maybe I'm wrong there. But the cabins also have the boat to MK, the campgrounds to play in, the ability to park your vehicle right outside your door.

I think you ought to go for the cabin, IMHO.

Well...it depends really.

The 2 rooms at an All Star will give you some extra room and 2 bathrooms. But you get the same amount of space in the cabins, and you could probably give the kids baths at night, and not have an early morning logjam for the bathroom in the morning, in the cabins.

You say the cabins are significantly more money, and on the surfact that may be correctly, but look at your overall budget. You can save OODLES of money (and time) by having simple breakfasts in the cabin. Cold cereal, bagels, toaster waffles, etc. There is a full kitchen, so you could cook if you wanted to.

For us, last January (2004) We stayed in the cabins, had breakfast in every morning, ate 2 lunches in, and 2 dinners in, and the food savings alone offset the extra charge. Plus we were able to get a cabin at a GREAT AP rate during Value season ($139/night).

We REALLY enjoyed the campground a lot.

Good Luck on your decision

Debster blew my puny reasons to stay at the Cabins over All-Stars out of the water, with much better specifics. I think these are very good points, and all the more reason to choose the cabins.

I'd like to see a Cabins trip report someday from the OP!

I love the cabins, its like having you own little house. It's nice coming home to a kitchen and living room instead of a regular hotel room.

Thanks for the feedback. You are both absolutely right. I think I was just suffering from sticker shock. Although I don't have an AP, I am a florida resident and maybe there will be a discount. We are going in the beginning of October.

I guess if the discount is REALLY significant for AP holders, I will upgrade just my ticket to an AP and grab the discount. I think the kids will like the campground stuff, anyway.

Two words: Petting Zoo :goodvibes (note it's in a great location near the waterfront, boats and restraunts)

I loved the cabins when we stayed in November of 2002. It was just me and my mom at that time, and I really want to go back there with my husband. We do visit Fort Wilderness quite frequently even when staying at other resorts, to eat at Trails End or just to walk the grounds. The landscaping is really lovely there. As for the cabins, I found them to be quite nice. My mom slept on the pull-down bed in the living room, and I slept in the bedroom in a full bed, and there is also a set of bunk beds. Having a full kitchen is also a plus. In my opinion, just having the option to go sit out on the deck would be worth the extra money to me. Just think, when your kids are asleep, you and hubby can have a drink or cup of coffee outside listening to the sounds, whereas, if you stayed at the All-Stars you are stuck in your room. :teeth: I also found the bathroom to be very spacious.
