2 rooms 1 free dining - what are my options

My head hurts trying to figure this out. My family (me, dh, dd6 ds3 ddinfant) are going to Disney in September and have a room only reservation at Poly. My mom is considering joining us and my Dad might tag along. 1. If my mom gets a room at a value with free dining can she add my kids to her reservation so their meals would be covered? 2. If my dad does not join her, can we change his name to myself or my husband to utilize free dining? I know we have to purchase a package with tickets, but we will be purchasing tickets for all individuals regardless. The kids will probably spend the night with us some of the days and stay with my mom some nights. We will be doing all parks and meals together.

From what I understand, you can change the names of any guests in a packaged reservation (free dining room) EXCPECT the primary person (one who made the reservation). This needs to be done 45 days in advance to avoid a $50 change penalty. Therefore, you should be able to move people around at will assuming your mom made the reservation and you do it before the 45 day window. The tricky part would be getting room keys appropriately assigned if people are moving from room to room.

If she puts them on her room only at a value all they would get would be CS entitlements unless she pays to upgrade everyone to TS.

Pickings are slim for September for Free Dining right now. Depending on your travel dates it's pretty sold out for the values and mods.

True, but the Poly room has no free dining at all. Most of the group with quick service for free beats most of the group with no free dining. Free food is free food

I would add them and your DH to her ressie. Take off DH if Dad comes. If you need a key for DH to your Poly room, get a key card.
