Has anyone stayed in the 2-bedroom suites at DLH? How was it and was it worth the extra $$$.? Tell me all !!!

Thanks!

We stayed in a 2 bdrm suite at the DLH back in Feb 2000. I thought it was awesome. However, I wasn't paying the bill. I don't even know how much it cost compared to a regular room. We had originally planned to stay for 5 nights and then added on a 6th night. Our first 5 nights were in the building where you check in. So, it took a while to get to the concierge lounge. It was not a problem for us but it meant that we just went once a day for breakfast and then once in the evening for cookies. For me, it was better to be away because I could eat and eat cookies all night and this kept me from overdoing. The last night, we moved into the building with the concierge lounge. Both times we had a pool view. I can't explain why, but I liked our original suite much more than the second.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Just noticed your user name and was wondering if you went to Alabama by chance? My FIL and SIL both went. DH's family is from a small town outside of Tuscaloosa.

Yes, I am From Alabama and still in Birmingham, which is about 40 minutes, at the most, from tuscaloosa!
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!

We'll be visiting Alabama in a few months. Should be nice and hot for our visit.

The first time I met DH's whole family, we flew from California to Atlanta, got in late at night. Slept a few hours. Woke up around 4:30, then drove to Tuscaloosa for a football game. I was so tired. I could barely keep my eyes open. DH kept leaning over to me and saying, "Don't fall asleep at a Bama game! You can't go to sleep at a Bama game." The game wasn't even close. Bama was winning easily. Luckily, I was in the last seat of the group so I could catch some shut eye when nobody was looking. He still gives me a hard time about it. I don't think the rest of the family noticed.

Alabama fans take their football very serious here. I tell you, i love football, but i have a life too! Some folks you meet at these games don't...Bama football...they live and breathe it. Wear the jersery and hat every gameday whether they go or not. Cars decorated with flags etc. Makes me giggle!
Our cousins in LA laugh at them. But they laugh even harder when they realize they have to go to Alabama to be with their "normal relatives" Everyone thinks we're " cousin-dating, beer-drinkin, pig-raising, hoop-n-howlin rednecks.....and some are" But we are pretty great people too. Just a little nuts about football. The worshipers of Bama Ball are like those you go to church with. So like in church, keep quite and try not to offend and an "amen brother" is allowed...See you at the game!! Rollllll Tideeee!!!!

Oh, I had a question for you about the resort, too! Do you have any suggestions about what to do or where to eat that you enjoyed, like Downtown Disney or even in the Disneyland Hotel. We went last March for 1 day but had way too many kids with all of us to do much of anything. We stayed at the Grand Californian and had the dinner buffet at Storytellers, I think? The girls ate like they had never eaten before. They really enjoyed it because it was pretty simple choices but were good too. I am just not familiar with Disneyland. I know everything about disneyworld because I did the college program there and have been so many times but really need assistance with this trip in July. Can you help me...also Ideas about others things to do in the area not disney.

You're right about the football being like a religion. I did enjoy watching all of the cars on the highways with their flags. I actually was lucky enough to watch Alabama beat Miami at the Sugar Bowl. Must have been around 93 or so. That was a great game and so much fun to be there.

The last time we were at Disneyland, California Adventure and Downtown Disney hadn't opened yet so I can't help with any of the places there.

I am trying to remember where we ate dinner during that trip. We had room service one night. It was just a burger and don't remember much about it. Must have been just ok. We ate at a really nice restaurant at the DH. I think it was a steak house. I remember that being very good. My favorite dinner of the trip was at the Japanese restaurant in PP. I remember our meal there as being delicious.

If you have any young kids (under 10 or so) on the trip, I would definitely take them to Legoland in Carlsbad. My kids love it there. They are 2 and 4. My best friend's girls are 7 and 10 and they also love it there. I can't quite remember how long the drive is from Disneyland. I'd say it's 1 hr 15 minutes.

San Diego is a bit further but it's got a lot of great things to do as well.

The college program sounds really interesting. I've seen it mentioned a few times on the boards. What did you do while you were working there?

I keep forgetting to mention that the 2 bedroom suite at DH was quite spacious. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite at the AKL last November and it was tiny compared to the one at the DH.

Thanks for all the helpful info. I willl try Legoland, are girls are 9 and 7, they will probably love it.

Yes, the College Program was great. I worked in EPCOT parking. I drove the trams and rode on the back with the witty info for the guests.I can still remember by speil(spell it?) Speel, whatever! You only say it about a billion times.
"Lower you heads and watch your step, 5 to a seat and 5 only. Adults toward the outside, children towards the center. Please make sure that all strollers and umbrellas are folded and secured safely to the floor. While the tram is in motion we ask that you remain seated, this is for your safety and the safety of those around you." yada yada yada then gave park hhours etc.
Loved it. I was there for 3 months during the spring of 87.

I bet your girls will love Legoland. I think you will too.

That's too funny that you remember all of that 15 years later. Sounds like it was a wonderful experience.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Have a great trip.
