we are heading to the world Dec 08 and are trying to decide on a resort. We have settled on GF but, i can't get AKL out of my head!! We really loved it when we stayed there.

Is it ok to stay at 2 resorts? If anyone has done this - is it complicated??

We'll be doing a split stay three weeks from today!

We are checking in at CBR for one night, then to BWV boardwalk View for five nights and then to the Poly for two nights.

It doesn't seem very complicated as Disney takes care of transferring your luggage. I'm excited to be trying another resort.

We have done it many times. If you don't mind switching and you have a car it is very easy. We never seemed to agree on where to stay so this was our compromise. You may be with out a room for some of the switching day but if you have a plan you'll be fine.

Disney will move your luggage for you and that part is easy. When we have done this, we check in early in the am so we have room charging priveleges. Often rooms are not ready so they give you a card to call to get your room assignment.

The tricky part is if you are on the dining plan. The DDP is part of a package, so you will need to buy a package at each resort. Your tickets will end up being more expensive as when you switch you need to buy another package, including at least 1 ticket for everyone in your party so you lose out on the discounted days for subsequent tickets overall.

This is fun to do to check out multiple resorts, but not worth it if you aren't staying long or have small children with a bunch of gear to pack and unpack and pack and unpack and pack! Happy planning!

We split resorts many times. I really love to do it, but I really enjoy the resorts themselves and we spend time there. Its a lot of fun and seems like you get more for your trip that way! We never found it difficult.

I did a split say between Poly and AKL. Logistically it is very easy to transfer between Disney owned resorts.

My advice is to stay at the lesser of the two resorts first. That way you will not be disappointed when you switch. When I did the split stay, I stayed at Poly first and then transferred to AKL. That was a mistake. While the AKL is magnificent, I really missed the larger rooms, centrality, and myriad transportation options at the Poly. I would have appreciated the AKL more had I stayed there first and then transferred to the Poly.

It is popular enough to have it's own name - split stay. It is easy to move from one resort to another although it does cut a little into your vacation time for repacking and checking in your new room. We do it basically every trip we go. It does depend on how many days you are staying. I wouldn't stay at less than three days at any one resort. There is just not enough time to settle in with less time (IMO).

Disney considers this two separate reservations and you must pay the appropriate down payment for each one. They aren't really linked.

In May we stayed one night at the Poly, the next 4 nights at the Contemporary and then 4 night at WL. I love to resort hop and it's no big deal to us.
