2 questions: waitlist and One time use points

Hi everyone! Two (hopefully) quick questions.
1. We have our first official DVC trip booked in August - split stay with 4 nights at poly, 4 nights at Riv. We bought 9 OTUP to complete this trip. We are considering adjusting the trip to 6 nights. What happens to our points? Do we get our normal Dec 19 points returned to us? Or do the OTUP get dropped first? And if so, what happens to those points?
2. If we shorten our trip, I’d like to look into Waitlisting at Riv - with the intention of dropping the poly nights and staying only at one resort. I fully realize this would be hard to get. But how exactly does the waitlist process work? I don’t have any available points - I would want to use the points I have “spent” at poly to “pay for” my Riv nights. But I am not fully clear on how waitlisting works - or if my 2020 points would get borrowed to cover this reservation? I’d like to avoid that.

In order to have the OTU points stay in the reservation, you will have to call MS because they do not show up online and because of that, when you modify the system will not pick them up.

For a waitlist, you would go in and set it to replace the Poly nights...this way, if it fills, they just change it,

When setting up, you want to choose to cancel at 31 days if RIV is less than Poly. If it is more than Poly, you can set to expire 7 days,

The reason is that when points are freed up less than 31 days before check in...even with a waitlist...those points become holding points and have restrictions.
