2 questions on Magic Bands

I like the MagicBands - unlike most ppl, I wear one on each wrist. Why you ask? Because I have two wrists!

They are basically accessories to us at this point, match our outfits, all different color options :rainbow:, themes, prints - oh and they work on room & park entry as a bonus :P

Wouldn't it be great if they sold a watch face that could replace the puck in the middle, so when you leave Disney, it can be used as a watchband?

We are going in October and choose our bands 3 months ago and then decided to upgrade . We ordered the upgraded bands 1 week ago and the are scheduled to be delivered today. I ordered Daisy and my daughter order the one with the food icons on it.

Thanks to all who answered. I feel sure of my first question, but I'm still hoping for the answer to the second question: When can I order the Magic Bands? I'm perfectly clear on the last-minute ordering ... but I'm not a last-minute girl; I'd like to order them as soon as it's acceptable. Thanks again to All!
To mention, when you are getting the bands that come with a Resort reservation you don't "order them" like something you purchase online
You have no control over when Disney mails them to you
As soon as you make your Resort reservation you can go on to MDE and confirm which band you want. Once that's done, you are at the mercy of Disney as to when they'll come to you. All you can do is pick the color/style and then wait.

You have to carry I.D. for adult beverages and other things like if they want credit card verification.
Not everyone has to have an ID to drink in FL. At my age they don't ask LOL
If you aren't charging with a credit card you don't need to show an ID
Now, I carry an ID with me because I have to provide it when using the Tables in Wonderland card and usually when using my AP discount. Plus, I have to carry the AP and Tables cards.

Ok, I don’t like the Magic Band because for me the only thing it replaces is a room key. I still have to carry my card with me for discount purposes. So basically it’s a door opener, which I don’t even need anymore because you can unlock your room with your cell phone now.
While yes, it is nowhere near as convenient to pull out an RFID card ticket as it is to press the Mickey to Mickey when using it for tickets and FP. If you don't use a MB and want to use the ticket instead you have to keep it in hand or pull it out over and over again. THAT is way more a PITA than wearing a MB or a puck holder.

That's realistic: not everyone would use all the features.
If you purchase a room or package through Disney the Magic Bands are free and can be ordered through Disney immediately after securing your resort through the website.
Great! That's the answer for which I was searching! As soon as I've made the reservation, I can order.
We originally picked free bands and our order sat there for a couple of weeks. Then a special band became available, was selected and the purchase completed, we received them in under 2 weeks.
I wasn't planning to buy special bands, but maybe I'll change my mind. Thanks for this detail.
A handy feature of MagicBands is that you can go to the resort pool with the MagicBands and leave your valuables back in your room. The band is waterproof.
That IS a big benefit.

Yeah, I'm in the same age category. Age has its benefits!

Again, thanks to All! I now understand the ordering timeline.

Angie I agree but Disney is supposed to ask all guests for I.D, for any alcohol purchase, not every castmember does this but they are supposed too. It would be so much easier to combine every thing in the app instead of a magic band. I have digital copies of I.D., credit card and can use the app to open my room door it would be nice to have the choice to use the app or magic band.

I love them. They are so convenient. Even though I do carry ID and extra payment method (credit card and a bit of cash), I never/rarely have to open my purse to get into the park, making purchases (unless I'm getting an AP discount since you have to show AP card and ID), open my room, swipe for fastpass. DH forgot his band in the room one day and had to keep pulling out his AP card to swipe for FP and get into the parks. It was actually a bit of a hassle and slowed us down in lines a few times as he fumbled to get it out quickly and then put it back. Not exactly a grand problem, but it just gives us a bit more sense of freedom not to have to stand there while people pile up behind us.

I've been thinking about getting one of the keychain holders for the puck but I think I'd have to buy it on the next trip and then do it at home for the following one as I've heard that it can take a bit of wrangling and a screwdriver to do it. That would be even better as it can be a bit sweaty under the band when it gets really hot. I could just clip it to my purse ring.

I have two reservations on MDE and it only lets me pick Magic bands for the last trip. How do I change it to pick for first trip?

I have a few different puck holders and it's not really hard to do. The screw is tiny so you want to do it sitting down and go slow to not strip it but once the screw is out, the puck holder pops off and the puck pops out easily. It's not near as difficult to get out as I expected it to be. Plus, the pucks come with spare screws so if you did drop and loose the original, there's more. I now keep one of the screwdrivers in my pouch that holds my ID. Tightens up both puck screws but also sunglasses/eyeglasses screws. 2fer1 :)

While there was a comment made that you do not "order them like an online purchase" If you want the non-standard one then you pick one out and pay for it.. I guess that to me is ordering it

By "ordering like an online purchase" I mean you don't have control over when it ships. While you never have full control over shipping of anything, there's a difference.
With MB, you simply tell Disney which ones you want, standard or nonstandard is the same way. Then they send them when they send them. Ones you pay for do tend to ship faster than those you don't, I think. We never book months in advance, even with plain ones so ours typically come pretty quick after we've selected them.

Also, even if you want the standard ones you have to pick it out.

If you select My magic bands and cards from the drop down box, you should be able to see both trips and can select your bands from there. I had the same problem and stumbled upon it by accident.

I thought I did that but I will try again.

Nope just shows one reservation and its the last one.

Magic Bands are a wrist band that:
  • Can be disney themed
  • Is your room key
  • Is your park ticket
  • Is your FP+ ticket
  • Is your credit card
  • Makes Memory Maker lightning fast to use
  • Adds personalization to rides
  • Helps Disney understand guest flow to better our experience
  • Is waterproof that you can swim with
  • Is immediately available all day
What’s not to like? It’s not meant to replace your wallet. It’s meant to take care of 9/10 use cases (listed above) Should note they are also available to wear as a lanyard instead of a wrist band.

Don’t want the ‘clutter’ at the end of your trip? Deactivate it and then: Throw. It. Away.
Also if you don't throw them away, they're a free or at least cheap souvenir from your trip! I'm pretty sure you can reuse them for visits too. There's many creative ways to display them in your home.

Speaking of displaying them, I saw something somewhere that showed a way to use them to connect Ears together. Sort of a daisy chain with headbands between each. I plan to do that eventually, when I can sit down and find all of them

Yes we have one of these started, you grab three wire wreath from your local craft supply store and start placing your bands around. Yet to hang it, i think we got too big of a size, lol.
