Hello, I have 2 questions and I figured I save some space and put them in one place :)

1) Let's say my home resort is AKL, but I want to book VWL for a stay. Should/Do I book my home resort 11 months out as a fallback, then look for VWL booking as soon as the 7 month window opens? Then cancel the first and book the VWL one? And is this in poor form?

2) Let's say I own ** points, but need ** for my vacation plans. I want to buy transfer points. I have to buy points that do not expire before my planned vacation correct?

TIA for you response:)

It is perfectly acceptable to book your home resort at 11 months and then try to switch or waitlist at 7! In fact, that is probably done more often than not (you might even be making someone else's waitlist hopes come true).

If you were to rent out transfer points, you would need them to not expire before your vacation. I believe they retain their use year and home resort.

You can also borrow points from next year. In this case, * of your say 2011 points come in to 2010, leaving you with ** in 2011. This cannot be undone - if you cancel, you'd still have ** 2010 points and * 2011. You could bank the original * 2010 points into 2011, but if you don't use those * in your 2010 uy, they are gone.

Note that yoiu can only transfer points in or out of your account once per year - so be careful!

FYI Transfer points can be banked once you receive them. However, an owner can't transfer points that have already been banked. They can only transfer current UY points.

Wow-this is pretty tricky stuff!:scared1:

So if I were to transfer, *** points because I got a good deal, but only needed *, could I bank the other *? And if so what are the rules involved with that?

FYI, I am looking to buy, but I really want to understand the program and not just go on pixie dust-lol:tink:

OK hopefully I get this right. If not someone feel free to correct me. You could bank the leftover transfer points you didn't use as long as they are within their banking window. (Which is 4 months from the end of UY) And remember the points you transfer in keep their UY; they do not adopt your UY. We just bought a small contract with the intent of transferring in points we need to make larger reservations rather than putting out so much money upfront. So far it has worked for us, but we've only done 1 transfer. There is no guarantee this scheme will work forever. It's smart to figure things out so you know exactly what you're getting before you buy.

Yes, if you know you want to accept a transfer, you can get it for however many points you want. Once you get them, you make the reservation and then they are yours to do with what you wish--if they are still in the banking window, you can bank them.

Transfers can only happen once per UY--so only one transfer in or out. And, since they do retain their own UY, I would think (never done it) it would be easier to get ones that have the same UY as it seems it would simplify things.

Good luck!

If you want to use points transferred in to book at 11 month window at AKV along with your AKV points then those transferred points need to be from a member who owns at AKV; if they are from another DVC resort those transferred points will not morph into AKV points & can only be used to book there when 7 month window opens .
