I was able to get the Dolphin on Hotwire for a great rate and decided to take it. Though not as good as the rate some were getting I felt $89 per night was a reasonable cost.

We arrived at about 3pm and were eagerly greeted by the bell staff. I checked in and was given an upgrade with DH's Starwood card--he uses it occasionally for business. We received a room overlooking the boardwalk with no balcony. What an amazing view. Some of Illuminations was visible from the room and the kids really enjoyed it. The rooms here are large, bright and airy. The exrtra amenities were wonderful too. The room was clean, and well equipped withthe appropriate linnens, etc. Once again the staff was exceptional. Giving us a ton of information about the resort, available amenities, the time to expect Illuminations and transportation. We only used the boats since we were only going to MGM and Epcot on those days. They were effecient and on time. The pool was beautiful and more than large enough to accomadate the two resorts. We also ate at the Dolphin Soda shoppe one evening. The food was fine, but a bit pricey--I forgot to use my DVC discount, but I didn't know if I could since I was not staying DVC while staying at the Dolphin. DD had a straight A report card so she got the cap and the ice cream. The free high speed internet was a nice amenity as well. Of course the Hevenly beds were amazing! If I were able to secure the resort for this price again I would not hesistate. Let me know if you have questions.

I have a ???? I've heard great things about the Swan/Dolphin, but does it feel like you're staying off-site?

Hey!

We thought the same thing three summers and ago and all I can tell you is NO, lol!

We enjoyed ourselves more and had a better experience with cast members at the Dolphin then the GRAND FLORIDIAN! Not one thing made us feel like we were not at Disney, there was a gift shop, passes available, GREAT TRANSPORTATION (better then most Disney hotels). The only difference is the SOAP, lol. If that bothers you your in bad luck haha, but otherwise go there and have the vacation of your life!

How long ago did you book the Dolphin on Hotwire? How did you know that you were bidding for the Dolphin. I'm always so hesitant to try bidding b/c I really prefer S/D location & don't want to be offsite even if at a very nice hotel.

Absolutely does not feel like you are staying off site. The Employees are every bit as nice and in some cases nicer than the CM's at the Disney resorts. I really enjoyed it and would return in a heartbeat. The only thing was not being able to charge things to the room from the parks, but since I wanted to be sure I'd get all my double points with my Disney Visa card for dining I wasn't really charging back to my room all vacation.
I booked it in January, and I was pretty certain it was the Dolphin because of the icons listed under the amenities. I can't find my confirmation or I would list them for you!

report card rewards? who does that? where? i would love to find a perk like that at wdw! (we have local places that give the kids stuff for good report cards... homeschoolers even "make up" report cards so their kids can participate!)

Can you please tell us (in GREAT detail!!!), how you knew that it was Swan/Dolphin?? What was the star rating? what were the amenities?? How far in advance did you find it?? Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

At the Dolphin, we could see Tower of Terror from our room. At the Swan, it was the Epcot ball. The Boardwalk was right next door. We walked to Epcot and MGM. As far as the soap, it's better--a wonderful oatmeal luxury soap. And the Starbucks coffee at Tubbi's is far superior to the coffee served at the rest of WDW. Having the free refills with the mug is great.

The hotwire price of $89 sounds great to me. I wish I knew how to guarantee getting it. I'm willing to pay an extra $40-$50 per night just to make sure I'm staying S/D.

That is a great price!
I'm leaving soon and I can't wait. I've been treated so well and I haven't even arrived yet and I've heard nothing but good things.

First remember with Hotwire you are taking a risk that it isn't the Dolphin, I was willing to take that risk figuring it would be the Hilton at DTD and I didn't have a problem with that.

What I do to be as sure as possible that it is the Dolphin is go to Hotwire.com enter room only, Walt Disney World , FL and the dates I'm looking for. Swan comes up 5 star and Dolphin comes up 4 star. (queen beds and resort icon versus double and no resort icon) you should have icon for pool, food, fitness center, golf and tennis nearby and laundry facility. Every now and again people will post on this board or the budget board that they rec'd Dolphin for X amount on that day for whatever the trip dates are--if your dates are on or around theirs check it out.

Good luck!

That's the reason I'm staying at the Swan is because I need two queen beds and the Dolphin doesn't have that.
